NICHOLAS FAITHFUL & VISITORS! The third Sunday of Lent is called "The Veneration of the Cross." After the Great Doxology, the Cross is brought in a solemn procession to the center of the church and remains there for the entire week, with a special rite of veneration following each service. "Let all the earth venerate the Cross, through which it has learned to worship Thee, the Word." Before Thy Cross, we bow down, O Master, and Thy Holy Resurrection, we glorify O Invincible and incomprehensible and divine power of the precious and life-giving Cross, forsake not us sinners" On this Sunday, the third Sunday of Lent, we celebrate the veneration of the honorable and Life-Giving Cross, and for this reason: inasmuch as in the forty days of fasting we in a way crucify ourselves... and become bitter and despondent and failing, the Life-Giving Cross is presented to us for refreshment and assurance, for remembrance of our Lord's Passion, and for comfort... We are like those following a long and cruel path, who become tired, see a beautiful tree with many leaves, sit in its shadow and rest for a while and then, as if rejuvenated, continue their journey; likewise today, in the time of fasting and difficult journey and effort, the Life-Giving Cross was planted in our midst by the holy fathers to give us rest and refreshment, to make us light and courageous for the remaining task... William will be available for a few confessions 15 min. before Liturgy on Sundays, before and after Lenten services, and by appointment throughout the week. 3 The Miraculous Myrrh-Streaming Kardiotissa (Tender-Hearted) Icon of the Virgin Mary (from St. George Orthodox Church, Taylor PA) Will be visiting St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Church FRIDAY, MARCH 24th 7pm Followed by a sharing of miraculous stories from Very Rev. Protopresbyter Mark Leasure & anointing all in attendance with the holy Myrrh Everyone is invited to a fellowship reception after the Moleben, sponsored by the Altar Society. PIROHY PRODUCTION This past Saturday was a busy day at St. Nicholas. Nearly 2,000 potato/cheddar cheese and farmer cheese pirohy were made. Be sure to thank this amazing team for sharing their time and talent. PIROHY ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE! Please see Magda. ($10 for farmer s cheese; $8 for potato/cheddar cheese) PIROHY FUN FACTS Oct. 8 th is National Pirohy Day The Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team organizes a pierogi race during their games. Five types of pirohy called Sauerkraut Saul, Cheese Chester, Jalapeno Hannah, Bacon Burt and Oliver Onion take part. The largest edible pirohy was made in Whiting, Indiana. It was 92-pounds! A 25-foot, 6,000 pound pierogie statue, made from fiberglass composites, was erected in Alberta Canada.

4 LENT & PASCHA HOW CAN YOU HELP? Here are a few suggestions: 1. Pussy Willows Needed by April 9th - If you have them in your yard, upon bloom, bring them to the Church. 2. Easter Flower Donation We are starting to take donations for Easter flowers today. Please be generous to help us offset the cost of the flowers, and to help beautify the Grave of our beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 3. Lazarus Saturday Work Day Plan on being with us on Lazarus Saturday April 8th (sign-up sheet in the Main Hall). The day begins early for the baking team making paska and kolač. Divine Liturgy is at 10:00 am, then teams will be dyeing eggs, tying up pussy willows and other important tasks. Everyone is invited, especially the Sunday School children. Lunch is provided. 4. Place your order for paska & kolač. There are five types of kolač this year: poppyseed, walnut, lekvar, cocoa and apricot! An order form is attached to the bulletin. 5. Pascha Luncheon Food Needed Please see the Volunteer Board for the sign-up sheet. Also, to allow those who setup prior to services to attend the Liturgy from beginning to end, we ask that you prepare your food at home on a disposable plate/platter. 6. Buy a chocolate lamb to benefit the NY/NJ Camp Bus Fundraiser to provide transportation to and from Camp Nazareth for our campers. The order deadline is March 26 th.
