As we pray and celebrate together the Resurrection of Our Lord, let us remember that Death has been conquered by Our Lord, so that Life Eternal may be possible through Him whom death had no power to hold. This is the day which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! In the Risen Christ, Fr. Michael CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS RISEN! Today is the Bright and Glorious Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Holy Week, prepares us in our journey and brings us into the life of Our Savior in his final days. We experience how He approaches the Passion and endures all for our sake. He then trimphantly rises on the third day, trampling down death. We stand in awe at the Holy and Life-giving Resurrection, our divine inheritance and the foundation of our Christian belief. The St. Nicholas Church ebulletin list has grown to over 150 members, many who live throughout the U.S., Slovakia and Poland. Each week, we are able to stay in touch across the miles and love hearing from you. And it is to you, our many friends and family who have moved or are not able to be here today, that we send this message. We carry you in our hearts always. We pray that the peace and joy of this most blessed time of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your family. Christ is Risen! CHRISTOS VOSKRES! VOISTINU VOSKRES! As Orthodox Christians, we believe that Christ s Resurrection is the momentous event that defines our faith. It marks the moment in time when death itself was turned back, when the ultimate upheaval befell the powers of darkness and bright hope came again into the world. When Christ died, as St. Basil tells us, the Author of life could not be held by corruption. And so He rose again! Everyone is invited in the Main Hall for our Paschal Feast after Liturgy. ICON STANDS The two beautiful icon stands, blessed after services last night, have been donated in memory of Anna Salony. The family has chosen to use the money they received, as well as donations made to the church, from family, friends, and parishioners to purchase these stands. The beautiful stand covers were lovingly sewn by Anna's 4th daughter - Magda Matlak. The icons on the stands are temporary, and the family is currently looking for 2 very special ones. These stands (and future icons) will become a permanent part of Anna's beloved St. Nicholas Church - 10th Street, just as her memory will be a permanent part of our parish. NICHOLAS SHRINE Since Father Michael has arrived, he has opened the doors to St. Nicholas Church to many visitors who want to light a candle, say a prayer or ask questions about the faith. For this reason, the vestibule as you come in from the street has changed a bit. Please stop by our St. Nicholas Shrine to light a candle and/or offer your prayers to our Patron St. Nicholas. PIROHY & KOLAČ FOR SALE! There are frozen poppyseed and lekvar rolls for sale plus potato & cheese pirohy. Please see Magda Matlak or Justina Chobor. Cost: Potato & Cheese pirohy - $8; Poppyseed and Lekvar Kolač - $10. NO ENVELOPES TO REMEMBER! Have your donation charged to your credit card once a month and our will never have to worry about writing a check or remembering an envelope. Sign-up in the office. PUSSY WILLOWS & PALM CROSSES Last year, we had tremendous difficulty obtaining pussy willows and consequently did not have enough. This year, there was an abundance and for a change we added palms to the large bunch of willows. We also weaved approximately 250 palm crosses to place next to icons in your home or at the cemetary. If you did not get blessed willows and palm crosses last week, please feel free to take what you need from the baskets in #2 Hall. CAMP NAZARETH RAFFLE TICKETS Camp Nazareth Family Day Raffle Tickets have arrived! This is still the only diocesan-wide fundraiser for Camp Nazareth and a significant source of income for the Camp Program. The raffle takes place at the camp on Family Day, Sunday June 2nd. 3 UPDATES TO EXISTING PROGRAMS LENTEN FOOD DRIVE Still want to participate in the Lenten Food Drive? Bring a donation next week for Mother s Day. There are sturdy bags in #2 Hall next to the food storage container. Our 2013 goal is to donate 1,000 pounds (1/2 a ton!) of food from St. Nicholas Church. The Sunday School children are the official weighers and will let you know about our progress in an upcoming bulletin. We are already at 305 pounds with a lot more to weigh. TREE OF LIFE UPDATE The stones have arrived! We will soon be adding to the Tree of Life sculpture as we mount some of the foundation stones. We are so grateful for all who have contributed to the Tree of Life Appeal. We are pleased to report that, to date, over $64,000 has been committed to St. Nicholas Church which is being used towards the reduction of our outstanding loans and capital expenses. Our hope is that the proceeds from the Tree of Life will give our children a great gift for the future freedom from the monthly expenses of a large mortgage. FLEA MARKET UPDATE Plans for the St. Nicholas Flea Market are well on their way. We want to thank Alex and Holly Marchak for their generous donations to the Flea Market this year! We truly appreciate all of your effort getting everything to us and all of the items you have graciously provided. They could have had their own flea market with the amount of items donated and instead have brought it all to us. This is promising to be the biggest flea market ever! All the proceeds are being donated directly to the church. We are going to need many hands on June 22 nd as we anticipate that every table in the Main Hall will be stocked full with treasures. For this reason, we have made the decision to take back the option of bringing clothes. We believe that there isn t enough room or manpower to do the clothing justice this year. With so many clothing options, sizes, men/women/ children, etc., it was becoming overwhelming to manage. Donated items are being stored in the Choir room. If you are donating items, you will see that the room has designated category areas (books, housewares, toys, etc). Please try to separate your items based on the signs. If there is something that doesn t correspond to the signs, simply leave that item in the open area as you walk out of the elevator. It will help the sorting process immensely. It has to be hard enough to come to a new parish but to come to St. Nicholas Church right before Lent had to be a daunting challenge and one you have met with an open mind, a goodly measure of fortitude and determination and gratefully, a sense of humor that has carried you through. The Choir From my view from the pew it feels like we are in heaven when you sing from above. Your voices add depth to the service and joy in our hearts. Thank you for sharing your talents with us all. And to Nick you are the glue that holds everything together and Bob we appreciate all of your efforts while Nick is away. These are once a year hymns and difficult ones at that. Thank you for working so hard during Lent, Holy Week and Pascha!

7 NEW SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT Diane, Gary and Michele Heidenfelder are doing something very special for the graduating seniors here at St. Nicholas Church. The Tracy Heidenfelder Memorial Fund is announcing the start of a new scholarship program with a $1,000 Award presented directly to the student selected (in the event of a tie, the award will be split). Applications are available outside the church office. The due date for application receipt is May 20 th. The Scholarship Selection Committee will announce the recipient of the scholarship by June 16 th. The members of this committee are not affiliated with St. Nicholas Church in any way, and have no knowledge of the candidates. Selection will be based on the application content only.
