2 2 2 From the desk of the Pastor Everyday Stewardship You could buy a meal for a person who is hungry or for a person who just ate a feast. You could spend me with a lonely person or with someone who has more friends than you. You could step forward to join a parish commi ee that your experience and knowledge can help, or you can join a ministry where you will constantly struggle to figure out what to do. All of the above ac ons involve you giving and sharing yourself and your gi s. But not all of these ac ons will bear good fruit. If a sower sows seeds only on rocky or weed-infested soil, nothing of great value will grow. But if that same sower plants his seeds in rich soil, then the harvest will one day be great. In all of the soils, the seed is being sown, but it is not the act of sowing that is the most important factor. In living a stewardship way of life, we must discern how best to share our gi s. Discernment needs the Holy Spirit and a desire to follow God's will, not our own. Our own desires and misconcep ons can cause us to use our gi s unwisely. The more mindful we are of how, when, and why we are sharing ourselves, then the greater the impact for God's glory. God wants all of you, but not in a way that is without understanding and discernment. He wants you to shine as a light to the world through your stewardship just as He came to you as the Light of the World in bap sm. See the enclosed flyer for details. Welcome Father Oliver Smalls! By God s grace we welcome Fr. Smalls pastor of Immaculate Concep- on Parish in Orange Walk, Belize. This is the parish we are partnering with to share God s boundless goodness. Fr. Smalls was the gracious host for Sam Po s, Anna Keyes, Jeff Keyes and me when we went to discover how we might work together. The Parish has 16 primary schools, 20 Mission Sta ons, 2 Catholic High Schools, and One Junior College. The farthest Mission is an hour and a half away from Orange Walk Town. Some of the Mission Sta ons will have Mass every Sunday and some will have Mass on a weekday. The District of Orange Walk is about 75% Catholic. The schools Masses are in English, but the Mission Masses are in Spanish. The daily Masses in the Orange Walk Town are in Spanish as is the Sunday 6:30 A.M. The other Town Sunday Masses are in English. In addi on to Father Smalls there are two priests from the Missionary Fraternity of Mary, two Pallo ne sisters, and six sisters of the Misioners Hijas De La Madre San sima De La Luz from Mexico. Our parish school already began a partnership with Sacred Heart School in Yo Creek and is in the ge ng to know you stage. While Fr. Smalls is here we will not only enjoy his stories of how we might partner, but he will ask for our support for the ongoing mission of his parish. We are known as a very generous parish. It is hard to see the kingdom of God all at once. Perhaps it is impossible. It is as if, the parable goes, a single seed does its nurturing and growth, but not alone, with all the others. We can t see the forest for the trees. Each one of us is a small part of a very large kingdom. How can I, trus ng in God, flourish this week? What fruit will I bear? How will mercy shape my behavior?
