I did that because I want to let our parishioners, especially our visitors, know our Mass & Sacrament schedule along with the entire Parish Staff and other important contact information. As a newcomer, I don t know how to tell people whom or where to contact when they come to me with questions like that after church. Also, the new arrangement on the front of the bulletin helps us advertise our parish and its services much better. Furthermore, the company that prints our bulletin only gives us a limited number of bulletin pages each week for the number of ads we have in the back. If we don t use them wisely and keep wasting them on pictures, we would have to pay for more pages in the bulletin each week and we would not tell you all the important information in our parish, diocese, or around the country. I often tell people who complain about this better improvement on the front of bulletin, do you get the GR Press to look at pictures or get the news? So, trust me on this improvement and others, unless you can pay for it yourself. Second, we have done away with Holy Days and children offertory envelopes so that our children can put their offertory directly in the kids can/bucket and save the envelope cost. Besides, I do not want to ask for donations every time you come to church. In fact, if you go to church on the Holy Days, I should pay you because not many people go on the Holy Days these days. So, we ask you to put your donations only on Sundays, Christmas, and Easter. However, we added 2 envelopes in your offertory package: One for benevolence to help the poor and the misfortunate while the other is for Maintenance to build up a small fund to fix up our facility. I don t want to come to you every time something breaks down or needs fixing such as maintaining our parking lot and striping it. The addition of a Maintenance envelope only comes with years of parish experience. Continued on next page...
2 ST. MARY MAGDALEN PARISH ND ST SE, KENTWOOD, MICHIGAN MASS INTENTIONS Continued from front cover Our first Wedding Anniversary Mass for September went well. There were 7 or 8 couples that helped us kick off this great tradition and had a great celebration in the Family Center afterward. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it possible for us. Hopefully, the last Sunday of every month we ll have this blessing and Anniversary celebration at 9:00 a.m. Mass. Also, my additional time of confession from 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm on Saturday has given you more opportunities to come to this Sacrament. Please come early and not wait until 4:44 pm to do it because I have to get ready for Mass at 5 pm. Finally, we ll be doing the Healing Mass with Anointing afterward on the first Saturday of each month. That way, the sick, the elderly, the folks who are planning for serious surgeries, and so on may experience God s healing grace. Along with the support of our Councils, and your prayers, I m trying to make St. Mary Magdalen a great spiritual home for everyone. Please help me make the improvements above and others possible. WOMEN S GUILD will meet October 19th at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at Brann s on 4159 S. Division Ave. Wyoming, MI. We will discuss our upcoming Craft Bazaar. All women of the parish are welcome. Also, we will be in need of baked goods for the Bazaar (Nov. 11). Thank you. FAITH FORMATION/YOUTH MINISTRY Hello Everyone, I am sure that many of you have spent time this past week in prayer for the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas. As we continue to offer our prayers for those who were lost, for the recovery of the survivors and for the families effected, it seemed fitting to share thoughts from the USCCB and St. Anthony Messenger Press as we struggle to find hope in darkness: "We woke this morning and learned of yet another night filled with unspeakable terror, this time in the city of Las Vegas, and by all accounts, the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. My heart and my prayers, and those of my brother bishops and all the members of the Church, go out to the victims of this tragedy and to the city of Las Vegas. At this time, we need to pray and to take care of those who are suffering. In the end, the only response is to do good for no matter what the darkness, it will never overcome the light. May the Lord of all gentleness surround all those who are suffering from this evil, and for those who have been killed we pray, eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them." Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of GalvestonHouston, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), October 2, 2017 Looking to the Prince of Peace Because we have been gifted with God's peace in the risen Christ, we are called to our own peace and to the making of peace in our world. As disciples and as children of God it is our task to seek for ways in which to make the forgiveness, justice and mercy, and love of God visible in a world where violence and enmity are too often the norm. (from St. Anthony Messenger Press). God s Blessings, Molly Wisdom Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time: As autumn progresses, we hear more harvest images at our Sunday celebrations. Today we hear two readings about tending vineyards and yielding grapes. Ours may no longer be an agrarian economy, but surely these images resonate in our lives all the same. What are we doing to cultivate the reign of God in the fields where we are living and working?
