3 MAY 6, 2018 YOUTH MINISTRY Hello everyone! We are finally in somewhat spring-ish weather. Praise God for that! We also just finished up our last Faith Formation class for this year. I'm happy to say that we've all made it through (mostly) unscathed, and I'm definitely looking forward to next year! As we look to the summer and continuing on in Youth Ministry, I wanted to use this to kick off and preview just one plan for the summer months: the youth appreciation event. Much like the Appreciation Dinner we hold every year, this event would recognize all of our youth who volunteer for events or serve at mass. I would personally love to see each and every member of our youth ministry participate in at least one portion of the mass. Whatever your gifts, the Catholic mass has a space for you to serve and participate in the mass on a deeper level. Whether you're a student, young professional, or a parent of a student, I'd love to see you serve in the mass through music, reading, Eucharistic ministry, alter serving, ushering, or greeting. That would be fantastic! Because our regularly scheduled youth-sponsored mass this month fell on Mother's Day, we will not be having one in May. This means that May is a great month to be trained for service! Some of you have already contacted me about serving in the liturgy. For those of you: thanks! I will be in contact shortly to set you up with the correct individual for training. For everyone else, please call me at the office or contact me through . I can't wait to see our youth sponsored mass supported by middle schoolers, high schoolers, and the young adults of our parish. It's a great vision of our amazing, vibrant community. Peace, Allison Middle School Faith, Fellowship, Food, and Fun Nights have been a blast so far! It's been great to build community and get to know one another over music, four square, and a shared meal. The meal is a key component of the night, and we would love your help with time or food donations! Please contact Allison for more information. Thank you! See you on May 20th for our next fellowship night! 4 For those of you who were not able to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner last Saturday, I would like to say thank you. It is your dedication and love for this parish that makes us great. When I call you to ask for help and you say yes without hesitation, you make me proud of SMM. THANK YOU!! Also I would like to say thank you to the staff who helped make this an awesome night. Younkers and Toy R Us are both closing and would make great places to purchase raffle items for St. Mary Magdalen s Parish Festival at a discount. I ve been told that Younkers will be closing the end of June. I don t know when Toys R Us will close. Shop the sales and let the creative thinking begin. CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL ~ 2018 Assessment $108,631 Pledged to Date Needed for Goal No. of Responses 265 out of 1,157 Families Through your donation to CSA, you are able to further the great ministry of the Church, and to communicate God s mercy. With your contribution, you reach thousands through your support of priestly vocations, Catholic education, cultural ministries, Catholic charities, catechist training and diocesan-wide communications, Anything raised in excess of our assessment is returned to the parish. We are still looking for someone who will be willing to host the classic car show during our festival on July 21. We would like to offer something for the guys to look at while their wife/girlfriend is shopping at the expo. If you are interested in helping out please contact Ruth in the office. Are you planning a graduation party? Do you plan to go to Gordon Food Service for items that you need? GFS issues point for every dollar you spend. As a customer who is shopping for graduation supplies, you will not accumulate points, but if you let them know that you are from St. Mary Magdalen we will receive those points. WOMEN S GUILD will meet Thursday, May 17 at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at Branns 4157 S. Division Ave. We will discuss the rummage sale and all matters at hand. All women of the parish are invited to attend. Recently at Mass someone felt faint and needed to go and lie down. A paramedic was visiting the parish, saw what was happening and offered his assistance. The lady is doing fine, but this got me thinking that it would be nice if we knew there were any medical professionals at Mass in case of an emergency. Please sign in on the Eucharistic Minister form which can be found near the main entrance. Please Pray for Our Military Josh Lemke, Alex Beauchamp, Devon Roche, Gage Dionne, Thomas Church, Egan Simmons, Lindsey Garrett Paul Beauchamp, John Beauchamp, Steve Jacobs, Sean Branagan, Scott Stockreef YOUNG AT HEART Will meet at First Wok, Thursday, May 10 at 11:30. Anyone Over 55 are welcome to join. MAY 6 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Last week the word remain was repeated over and over in the second reading and the Gospel. This week the word is love. In both his first letter and his Gospel, John writes love one another. It is a command to all Jesus disciples, from the apostles at the Last Supper to all of us gathered around the table of the Lord today. To love each other as we are loved by God is what we are all called to do.
