Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we are glad you are with us today to join in the worship of God and to share in Christ s presence given to us in the sacrament of bread and wine. We hope you stay for what follows our worship this morning. You are welcome here. The People joyously shout in return And also with you. Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? just say this, The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately. They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt? They told them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. The Celebrant invites the congregation to raise the branches of palm as they are blessed. The Blessing of the Palms Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise! Celebrant It is right to praise you God, for all the love you show us in Jesus. Bless these branches and make them holy. Let these branches be signs that Jesus is our King. May we follow Jesus and come

4 into the joy of life forever with him, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen. Celebrant Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. The People shout Hosanna in the highest! Children of all ages are invited to join the procession following the cross as we walk around the church. You are encouraged to wave the palms and shout Hosanna! and Jesus is King! as we sing. When the music ends, we return to our seats and put the palms away. 5 The Prayers of the People Celebrant When God s People gathered in the Temple, they came to pray, giving thanks to God, asking forgiveness, and making intercession, which means praying for the concerns and needs of others. So now we stand to pray, as they did. [silence] A member of the parish leads the prayers from our midst. Dear God, we give thanks for the goodness and love that you show us in Jesus. We thank you for family and friends, for food and homes, and for this beautiful world. Thank you for Jesus and for all your blessings. We pray for all who believe in you, O God, and for all churches, especially Christ Church and the church in the Dominican Republic. As we follow Christ Jesus and share his story, Help us walk in his footsteps. We pray for all who are hurt or sick; for people who are poor and lonely; for all in our prayers, whom we remember now. [Please offer names aloud or silently.] We lift them up to you, O God, for your comfort, your healing, and strength. Help us to walk beside them and care for them. We pray for all who have died and all who miss them. [Please offer names aloud or silently.] You teach us that in Christ Jesus life does not end when we die; it continues with you in heaven. Help us trust your promise of everlasting life. Hear our prayers, offered in the name of Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen. Please kneel, as able, for The Confession of Sin Celebrant Let us pray. People Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may love and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Celebrant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace Celebrant People Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one body by the cross. We meet in his name and share his peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. THE HOLY COMMUNION Being seated, we begin with a time of offering, giving money as a sign that our life serves God s purposes and showing our gratitude for God s many blessings. For those who give online or will text a contribution to (302) , a card is available in the narthex to participate in the act of offering. Newcomers and guests may place the welcome card in the offering plate.

7 The Great Thanksgiving Celebrant The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Celebrant Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. You send your Spirit to bring new life to the world, and clothe us with power from on high. The Celebrant invites the People to say the prayer Jesus taught his first disciples. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 8 The Breaking of the Bread We sing the anthem at the breaking of the bread, which is Christ s Body, broken for us. Please be seated after the sacrament is presented.
