2 The Voluntary Sarabande for the Morning of Easter Herbert Howells ( ) At the sounding of the handbells please stand, as able for The Resurrection Gospel Luke 24:1-9 On the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. At the conclusion of the reading, Officiant People Alleluia, Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia! The Entrance Hymn 179 Welcome, Happy Morning! Age to Age Shall Say (blue) Hymnal 1982 The Bidding Prayer Beloved in Christ, in this Eastertide, let it be our care and delight to hear again the message of the angels at the empty tomb, announcing the resurrection of our Lord. Let us go with the women to the Upper Room where Jesus meets the disciples in their fear and brings them peace. Let us read and mark in Holy Scripture the Good News of the loving purposes of God, to break the power of sin and death and open the way of eternal life in that Kingdom where there is no pain or sorrow, but the fullness of life in the peace that surpasses human understanding. Let us in gospel gladness sing the faith we have received, rejoicing in the power of the resurrection. But first, let us pray for the needs of the whole world; for those still entombed by sin and bound in death, for those in places of extended war and terror; for all who have not heard the Good News, or who do not believe; for unity within the Church and bold witness for the world Jesus came to renew. And because this of all things would rejoice his heart, let us remember, in his name, the poor and the helpless, the hungry and the sick, the lonely and those who mourn, the aged and all the children of the earth. Lastly, let us remember before God all those who stand before the throne of God, singing the song of the angels, that multitude which no one can number, whose hope is in the Lord of Lords, and with whom, in the Lord Jesus, we are for ever one. And so that we may join with those in every age who have lifted up their voice in prayer and praise, let us pray, The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.
