Amen. Please be seated for Reading The Story Genesis 12:1-7 (NIV) The Lord had said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your father s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, To your offspring I will give this land. So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. At the conclusion the People respond, Thanks be to God.

He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again. But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him. Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, What were you arguing about on the way? But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me. The Homily A New Hope: God Builds a Nation Stephen Setzer Please stand for The Nicene Creed Celebrant Let us declare our faith in God: People We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

4 A member of the parish leads the prayers from our midst. The Prayers of the People Gathered by the Holy Spirit and renewed in the Word, let us pray to God for the needs of the world. Gracious God, we thank you for your whole creation, so beautiful and wonderful, given to us to preserve and protect. We are your stewards, O God. Give your wisdom to the leaders of the nations, especially our President, Donald, that there may be peace and provision for all people. We pray for victims of violence, for people in poverty, and all who search for safety. We pray for our nation, our region, and the City of Wilmington. Hold us together in your great goodness. We want your peace, O God. We thank you for giving the Church your Spirit s power. We pray for Michael, our Presiding Bishop, and for Kevin, our Bishop. We lift up N., and our outreach partner, N. Strengthen, bless, and guide us to make you known by word and example. We are your Church, O God. Awaken our hearts to your presence in all people in those familiar to us and those who are different from us. Teach us to use our talents to welcome and bless all your children. We are made in your image, O God. Lord, comfort and strengthen those in any need or trouble. We pray for those who are sick in body, mind, or spirit, for N., and for those we name now. [pause] Let them discover your love through the care and support of others. We are your children, O God. We pray for those who have died and for the people who miss them, for N., and for those we name now. [pause] May all find peace and strength in you. In you alone we have eternal life, O God. Together let us pray for the forgiveness of our sins. There have been times when we have forgotten to live as children of God. We have been selfish or cruel hurtful to others and harmful to ourselves. We are sorry for what we have done, and what we have left undone. 6 The Celebrant invites the People to say the prayer Jesus taught his first disciples. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Breaking of the Bread We sing the anthem at the breaking of the bread, which is Christ s Body, broken for us. Please be seated after the sacrament is presented. All are welcome to receive the sacrament of Christ, kneeling or standing, either consuming the bread and drinking from the cup or dipping (intincting) the bread carefully into the cup. Gluten-free host are available; let the clergy know your need when they approach you at the rail. If you are unable to come forward, ask an usher to let the clergy know.
