2 Collect and Readings Collect: God of glory, by the raising of your Son you have broken the chains of death and hell: fill your Church with faith and hope; for a new day has dawned and the way to life stands open in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. New Testament Reading: Acts A reading from the Acts of the Apostles Peter began to speak to those assembled in the house of Cornelius. I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. All This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 2

3 Gospel Reading: Luke All All The Lord be with you. And also with you. Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women who had accompanied Jesus came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground but the men said to them, Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again. Then they remembered Jesus words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened. All This is the Gospel of the Lord. 4 Church Community News EUCHARIST WITH PRAYERS FOR HEALING AND ANOINTING On Sunday 3 April, 6.30pm, there will be the opportunity to come and ask for prayers and anointing. You can come with your own need or concern, or come to pray for someone you love. Everyone is invited. Please speak to Diane or Keith FILM CLUB The next meeting of the Film Club will be in the Narthex on Wednesday 6 April at 1.15 for 1.30pm, when we ll be showing Song for Marion with Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, and Vanessa Redgrave (2012, running time 93 minutes). Suggested donation 3.50 to include tea and biscuits. CONCERTS AT ST MARY S The House of Life - 2 April, 6pm Richard Lea, baritone, and Charlotte Way, piano, present a programme of English music. Love, life and tears - 23 April, 7.30pm Estonian soprano Natalie Matsov-Evans and Greek mezzo-soprano Eleni Katerini combine forces with Alexandre Naoumenko, Russian coach at the Royal opera House-Covent Garden in an evening of opera and song. A wonderfully varied programme from Baroque to Verismo, Russian Romances and songs from the Mediterranean including the British première of works by Alexandre Naoumenko. COME & SING EVENSONG Sunday 24 April, celebrating St George Rehearsal at 4.30, tea at 6, Evensong at Music by Fawcett and Bainton. For more information contact Lizzie 4

5 Preparing for APCM CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL The electoral roll of St Mary s is an important record and a legal requirement under Church Representation Rules. If you are over sixteen years of age, live in the parish and/or have been worshipping here for more than six months you are eligible to be included in the roll. If you are thinking of standing for PCC, or if you would like to be able to vote at the Annual Church meeting, you need to be on the Electoral Roll of the church. The Roll is open between now and 1 April for names to be added. After 1 April only corrections can be made. You will find forms at the back of church and also a copy of the roll at to make corrections on. Please contact Alex Russell, our Electoral Roll Officer if you would like to know more. Meeting: The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) will take place on Sunday April 17 immediately following the service. At the meeting we will approve annual accounts and receive various reports. Elections: We will elect 2 church wardens and 3 new PCC members. Nominations forms are on the notice board. We will also approve deputy wardens and stewards. Reports: This is also a reminder that if you normally write a report for the APCM booklet, or if you are responsible for something in church you think ought to have such a report, then Mtr. Wilma will be pleased to have them by 5 April at the latest. Want to be involved? There are many jobs to be done at St Mary s. Have you considered what you can do? We are currently looking for people to join the following teams: Sacristans (as one of the faithful sacristans is standing down), Church cleaners, Junior Church leaders, choir and more. Talk to a member of Ministry Team or PCC how you can take an active role in the life of our church. 5

6 Local Community News BOX ON THE HIGH ROAD From now until the end of April we are supporting Children With Cancer UK (Great Ormond Street Hospital) Keith Holmes BRING YOUR MONEY JAM BACK TO CHURCH If you have been making money jam for the bishop of Southwark s Lent Call, please bring it to church as soon as possible. We don t want the jam to go off. Please write your name on the jar or fill in a blue envelope and put that in your jar, so we can claim Gift Aid on the collected amounts. SUPPORTING TSM You can support out church school by collecting Sainsbury s Active Kids vouchers. TSM will use them to acquire sports equipment, such as new tennis equipment, footballs and lots more. There s a basket for your vouchers at the back of church. EXPLORING CHRISTIAN LIFE This series of adult spiritual learning at St. Paul s Cathedral continues on Tuesday April 12 at 6.30pm with the subject Money And The Kingdom Of God led by Eve Poole and Angus Ritchie. The event is free but you do need to register. Details of how to do so are on the notice board. Mary In The Garden I met him in the darkness Of the early morn.
