In a specific study conducted by Barry Bittman, MD, group drumming actually increases cancer-killing cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as many other viruses. Drum Circles also provide an opportunity for participants to feel connected with others and gain a sense of interpersonal support. A drum circle provides an opportunity to connect with your own spirit at a deeper level. Group drumming alleviates self-centeredness, isolation and alienation. There are great benefits to feeling connected to others, especially those in similar situations. What s Up? The origin of the word rhythm is Greek meaning to flow. When our lives are experiencing dissonance and disharmony, we limit our capacity to resonate with the natural rhythms of life. Drumming gives us a way to feel the beat, pulse or groove needed to feel connected and balanced, rather than isolated and out of whack. Drumming can help people express and address emotional issues. 2 Spotlight of the Month: Alan Galicia Starr: How did you happen upon the Philosophical Library? Page 2 Galicia: About a year ago I d just returned from Chicago and was trying to decide between school, job or volunteer. I interviewed for a loan collections position and after being asked to make 350 calls in an hour, I decided it wasn t for me. Then I Googled volunteer library, philosophical, etc., which connected me to this place. Genny was the first person I met. She took me in and showed me the ropes. I did everything from desk worker, librarian, and the everpopular used books section. All of the above brought me to where I am now, Program Director, membership chair and serving on the board. Starr: What direction do you see the library headed? Galicia: We are coming out of the occult image and moving toward the times they are a changing. We re going into the neighborhoods, the coffee shops, and the fairs and getting our name out there. Starr: What section of the 10,000+ books is your favorite? Galicia: Astrology! Starr: I could talk for hours on that subject. Starr: What kind of classes are you hoping to bring into the library? Galicia: More discussion-oriented, we re finding that people have knowledge to share and are looking for a place to express themselves. I see it more like a back and forth, a give and take, bouncing theories and ideas off of each other. Starr: Tell me something about you that people don t know. Galicia: I have aspirations of being a Rock Star. I play guitar and would like to play in a band. A lot of people I look up to are actors playing dysfunctional roles like James Spader playing Alan Shore. It gives you a feeling of authenticity, real people dealing with life like you and me. Take Einstein he was a genius, but there was more to his life than meets the eye. Visit her websites Evastarr.com, Reachforthemoon.net and her new blog starrronthefly.evastarr.com By Ben Glass There are two handles by which any object or experience may be held by the handle of our personal interest, or the handle which is the interest of every other living being, deity, or life force. When we experience something we dislike, we are forced to do something against our will, or so it seems, by experiencing the contrary of our personal interest. Then, there is the interest of all other beings. I did not get what I wanted; what about an anonymous person on the other side of the world? Has this event affected them? Would they be entirely indifferent if they heard what had happened to us? If we choose, we can hold it from the handle of their interest. We, too, can stand unaffected if we will not take the handle of personal interest, but that of universal interest. This idea of there being two handles is a stoic one which Epictetus uses. I like this idea a lot and, at core, believe it is one of those ideas which all mystics talk about despite differences in vernacular. Another way to look at it is as a tool to find when you are running up against your own self-interest. If you are angry, upset, having great difficulty, you can be certain that something has happened contrary to your self-interest. Once we know that we are dealing with issues of self-interest, we can examine the values which underpin them and, if we choose, we can change those values. If we change our selfinterest, we will change our actions, our responses, our lives. In this there is a great deal of responsibility-taking. Epictetus said something to the effect that a stoic should blame only his own thoughts and values for his unhappiness. It is difficult to think first about the values which underpin our emotional responses, to look for ways in which we can alter our response. I think this is the most basic form of mysticism, the elegant know thyself. If we must act from self-interest, knowing your own interest is the fastest way to begin to understand yourself.

3 Page 3 I AM that I AM The TWO most powerful words in the English language by far are I AM! The spark of energy, the Divine Mind, the Universe, God---call it what you want is the I AM, that I AM the words spoken to Moses at the Burning Bush. We, I, You, are the I AM, we are all connected. We are NOT separate from God, we are ONE with God, we are God, we are Co-Creators with God. If you are having a hard time understanding this concept I suggest you read Wayne Dyer's latest book Wishes Fulfilled. Dyer explains throughout his book how powerful and self-prophesizing anything you put after the words "I AM" is. Dyer did some extensive reading of his own before completing his latest book most of which was studying the works of the Ascended Master Saint Germain and his works The "I AM" Discourses (Volumes 3 & 11). Also Dyer refers quite a bit to the work of Neville, and his work The Power of Awareness. Think about it like this, saying the words I AM brings about the powerful energy of the Universe. You are NOT separate from any of the great minds, you have the ability and the wherewithal to create whatever it is you want. Of course, there's more to it than waving a magic wand, but in reality the concept is really quite simplistic, WATCH YOUR WORDS. A few weeks back I wrote about the book A Complaint Free World by Will Bowmen and the purple bracelets that spread to six million people once Bowmen created an awareness of a "complaint free" world. It's the same concept. If you want to be healthy, don t walk around saying you re sick and tired! Likewise, if you want to be healthy put it out there NOW, talk about your health as being well. Get rid of the "someday", "I'm going to be" or "I want to" in your vocabulary; otherwise the carrot will always be just out of reach in front of the dog. You do get where I'm going with this don't you? Dyer also talks about one of my favorite subjects and that is NOT to listen to the naysayers out there, the government, your friends/family, well-meaning people in your life who just can't see WHY you'd want to do whatever it is you have imagined on your canvas of what YOUR life looks like. Did you pick up on the "operative word" YOUR life? If Dyer would've listened to even one-tenth of the people who thought they knew what was good for him he wouldn't be who he is today! Keep your attention subjective. You and only you are the subject that impacts the burning desires in your imagination. Allowing a research story, the news, contrary opinions, new government laws, or anything else that takes your attention away dismantles and destroys your desired outcome. (Dyer) As most of you know, I gave up television in 1989 when my youngest daughter Shayna was born, and I'm here to tell you that IF I need to know something, the Universe brings it to me Special Delivery. The same is true for you. Keep your wishes and dreams private, hold them close to your heart like a pit-bull with a rubber bone, and watch the coincidences, the synchronicities, the books, people, phone calls, and chance meetings that appear from around every corner in your life. YOU are ONE with God, the Universal creative energy, Source. Are you listening? Every night before you retire, focus your attention on this quote from Saint Germain (turn off the news for Heaven s Sake): I AM' the Governing Presence, governing in Perfect Divine Order, commanding Harmony, Happiness, and the Presence of God's Opulence in my mind, my home, and my world.".saint Germain (say this three times before bed and watch your dream world turn into a wikipedia of answers to your day time questions) Soul Food, the latest addition to The Seeker s Source is dedicated to all my readers in hopes that what I have to say will give you some food for thought, and stimulate the juices in your brain to flow like a mighty river.
