Spring has sprung and its time for our ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE - Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 pm. We are now officially years old. We have many scrapbooks of the Library s history and they will be available to take a trip down memory lane. There will also be free speakers, $.25 book sale, arts and crafts booths, readers, and free refreshments. Please go to page 6 for schedule of events. At the Open House, we will kickoff a fund-raising raffle. The prize will be half of the $-amount of tickets sold. Raffle tickets will cost $1 each or 6 for $5.00. The drawing will be held in July. Issue CD/DVD items at $2 per week (this is the same as it has been.) Level 2: $65 annually Entitles member to check out books and audio/video/cd/dvd items at no cost. Level 3: $200 annually Entitles member to same benefits as Level 2, plus receiving a free gift. Many thanks to all the donors and workers it takes a community to raise a Library! Saturday April p.m. You may remember that in December, we completed entry or our entire Library into the computer! Well, we are now set to begin entering our membership into the computer. New cards have been ordered which will be bar coded. As members renew, borrow books or join, the new card will be issued. The Library has entered the technology age at last! The Board of Directors has established new variable membership levels. Level 1: $25 annually Entitles member to check out books at no cost and/or rent audio/video/ As you can see, the Board is searching for new ways of creating income so that the Library can continue to exist during these lean economical times. We are truly appreciative of all the ways that members and friends support the Library. We salute all of you for your service of time, prayers and donations of both money and items. 2 Page 2 Other Than This.. Everyone wants to be happy, right? Countless self-help books are written and seminars given everyday. Topics like How to make a fortune following my method and You deserve to have everything you want and here s how to get it proliferate late night TV and newspaper ads. They attack your body and self image as well. So many courses, counselors and different approaches exist that sound out warnings: Unhappy with your body here is how to change, Want to be more attractive- we can fix you, If you have more hair, you can find the perfect mate and feel secure for all of your life. I swear this is all true, just call These statements prey on your fears. If you are looking for happiness, here it is: Happiness is the relief of that which causes distress. It is that simple. These methods are aimed at getting something you don t have now changing what you know, adding to your repertoire of manipulative social tools, creating a different physical appearance. All of these programs are designed to shellac over your distress. In other words, many of these programs, methods, seminars are aimed not at looking at the cause of distress, but covering it up with more stuff. More things money, houses, new hair, new cars, new boobs, a whole new you in only six easy payments of $8,000 dollars! Order Now!! So, before you give these a try, why not look at the distress that is causing the un-happiness? If you want these things, I am not saying you should not pursue them. If you want to look like a Barbie Doll, or Arnold Schwarzenegger, or live on the beach in a 3 zillion dollar house, go for it. I truly mean that. In my heart I wonder in your heart, will you then be happy? What is causing the distress pushing one to pursue these things? Most will find it is fear. The pursuit of happiness is thought to be acquiring something you do not yet have. The pursuit of happiness for so many is that of moving towards something. When what is actually taking place is one is trying to move away from something fear of some kind. There is a huge difference there, and quite the opposite. If you think this applies to you, try to look at what is causing you to the fear and distress before you go to some expert of whatever to fix you. I m not saying you should not see a doctor or therapist, or that you shouldn t listen to anyone. Do not stop medications or put yourself in physical, mental or spiritual danger. And don t listen to me. I am no expert. I admit that! But ask yourself, do you want what you don t have, or do you need to rid yourself of what you are currently experiencing?
