2 Page 2 Other Than This.. "One of these days", I tell my wife, "One of these days I'm going to move to Iowa and live with the Amish". She's heard this before. This ranting of mine is not because of some quest to live a simpler lifestyle, or a higher calling - spiritually speaking. It's because of this computer. It changes its settings, updates, downloads, and directs itself to Web sites I have never heard of - all without my permission. They whoever "they" is at the other end of the phone, tell me this is supposed to be a good thing. I'm not so sure. The folks at the other end have always been nice, courteous, and as helpful as they can possibly be. There has never been any of the communication or non-english speaking issues of which I've heard others speak. I just don't if I have explained the issue well enough. There is a higher authority to which I call for tech support. It only takes two words - "Hey, hon..." Within a minute my wife is there looking over the situation. She has even stopped asking "What'd you do?" That s kind of her, though I know it's what she's still thinking. I didn t do anything, I tell her on approach. Most of the time it only takes a couple minutes before she has it in good working order. Perhaps I just expect too much. I can imagine calling Ford Motor Company. The wipers on my pickup don t work I tell them. It must be the interface with that little handle on the steering column. Sorry, not out problem, they tell me. I ll protest, But it worked before. Must be driver error, they tell me. Maybe I m not explaining it well enough. Even this fantasy phone call could be resolved with moving to Iowa. No phones, no lights, no motor cars not a single luxury! But then there would be a issue with something else. Hitching up the wagon, as an example. Hey hon I d call out. My point is this: It doesn t matter what the situation is. It s whether or not you react to it. And how you react. If you do is it like that computer that is just automatically responding based on its programming? Are you responding out of old conditioning? Are you acting, or re-acting in life s everyday situations? You don't have to. Just see those re-actions for what they are. Just recognizing them can be liberating. I ll never move to Iowa. My wife would not go along. It sure sounds nice now and then. Life without electricity I would take. Life without buttons, I don't know...
