Clear the Clutter...on your bookshelves by donating any extra books you have to the Library. It always feels good to reduce our accumulation of stuff every once in a while, and many times those books that we finish reading get stuck on a shelf for years. Maybe it s a book that you intended to pass on to someone else and never did, a book that you thought really contained some great material. Pass it on so someone else who can reap the benefits by donating it to the Library! Those well-written words then become part of the information flow to others. The sale of our used books, at such reasonable prices, helps people who perhaps can t afford to purchase one at full price AND helps the Library with our operational costs. Your book s new owners will appreciate it and so will we. Drop off any donations during Library hours or, if that s not convenient, phone the Library at and we can arrange for a special time to accept the donation, or even make arrangements to pick up the items from you. What s Up? Issue Recycle Your.....unused holiday decorations. As you think about how to deck your home for the holidays, please think about donating any castoffs that you will not be using. Help the Library get into the holiday spirit and enjoy the spirit of giving. Anything that you want to pass along would be helpful, such as lights, bangles, baubles, garland -we can use it! Showcase your writing talents....by writing an article, prose, poetry, etc. for our newsletter. We would like to give you the opportunity to share your writings with over 600 fellow seekers, the recipients of our monthly newsletter as well as the rest of the people who access our Web site. 2 Page 2 Starr s Spotlight Spotlight of the Month: The magical, mystical, mysterious books on the shelves of the Philosophical Library Starr: What can you tell me about these magical, mystical, mysterious books? Books: Our covers are getting dusty, people don t know about us. Some of us have been around since before Christ. Just because we don t hang with the philosophical classics, like Socrates and Plato, doesn t mean we re not just as interesting! Starr: Give me an example of some of the types of people you hang with. Books: Those crazy astrologers, and the Wiccans, to name a few. Martin Shulman has one of the most coveted series of books in the Astrological neighborhood. If you want to go beyond the basics of Astrology Shulman will blow you away with his books on the Moon s Nodes, the Part of Fortune and Karmic Astrology. Just a few shelves down the Tarot section would cause Madame Lenormand to rise from the dead. Starr: You are absolutely right! I ve never seen such a diverse and plentiful collection of books on the Tarot, a gypsy s paradise. I noticed some old-timers hanging around the Tarot crowd, Miller & Harper s The Physic Energy Workbook, which I brought 3000 miles cross country when I left Cleveland. What about people interested in reincarnation, and communicating with those who have passed on? Books: We mosey on over to see Sylvia Browne and John Edwards once in awhile, but one of our favorites to visit is Gina Cerminara s Many Mansions; she hangs with the Cayce crowd. Starr: Since I m crossing over (astral plane) what do you offer in the way of insights or night travels while I m sleeping? Books: Doreen Virtue is Queen of that block, although she s made room for Astral Doorways and Astral Travel to move in with her. She s right next door to Wilda Tanner s The Mystical, Magical, Marvelous World of Dreams. Starr: What if I want to align my energies, or bring the chi back in my home? Books: The Feng Shui sisters are sharing shelves with the Chakras, and the Gemstones. Your home, mind, body, and soul will be aligned in no time, and we even sell pendulums and crystals to meet your needs. Starr: Wow, it sounds like this is a well-kept secret. The Philosophical Library is loaded with esoteric books on everything! Books: Yea, tell all your friends the Philosophical Library is loaded with a plethora of esoteric books on every subject known to man and then some. I will share with you personal lessons and stories that I hope will empower you, inspire, and make you laugh, while touching your heart. I will share with you other links to websites and articles that I find helpful. Thank you for allowing me to serve. ~ Eva Starr Do You Feel Comfortable Caged and Secure? A friend of mine loaned me a book called The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. I must say I feel I hit the jackpot with this one. I happen to have Sagittarius Rising for my current Solar Return and delving deeper into my psyche is just what the doctor ordered. I highly suggest if you resonate with what you read here to take a look at Singer's book. The premise is if you really want to experience true spirituality you need to stretch yourself right to the edge of your comfort zone and beyond. We have pain buried deep within our beings and we spend our whole lives trying to protect ourselves from situations that will trigger that pain. When in reality, if we just stood back from a point of consciousness (awareness) and observed, then felt the pain and allowed it to "pass through us" instead of staying stuck inside of us, we could be free. "In bullfighting there is a term called querencia. The querencia is the spot in the ring to which the bull returns. Each bull has a different querencia, but as the bullfight continues, and the animal becomes more threatened, it returns more and more often to his spot.as he returns to his querencia, he becomes more predictable. And so, in the end, the matador is able to kill the bull because instead of trying something new, the bull returns to what is familiar. His comfort zone." Imagine a dog with an invisible fenced-in yard. Now, the dog cannot see the fence, there is no physical fence, but when the dog gets near the barrier he gets an electric shock or vibration which causes him/her to retreat. Say the dog is brave and decides to test this invisible fence, thus feeling the pain and moves beyond those barriers, he/she then will move beyond the fence. The fence does not harm the dog but it IS uncomfortable. It is the same for you and me! We will not be harmed, but of course we will have to move through and beyond the things that cause us embarrassment, hurt feelings, etc. to move to a place of freedom and joy. Some of us prefer the safety of our comfort zones, and that is fine, but you will not grow there. Look at prison; some people actually prefer prison because there they are safe and do not have to worry about food or shelter. Of course, that is a drastic analogy but look at the reference point I'm trying to make here. Your cage is just like the dog s; when you approach the edges you feel insecurity, jealousy, fear, or selfconsciousness then you pull back. Spirituality is the commitment to go beyond, no matter what it takes. (Singer) When I've felt alive and passionate, those were the times I pushed the envelope. It's when I tried those things people said couldn't be done, when I took a chance and went waaaaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone. Don't get me wrong; none of this is going to be a bed of roses. The decision is yours to make, not mine. You can take all of what I've just said and say to hell with you, I like my comfort zone just fine and that's where I'm going to stay. That's just fine and dandy, it's your life, live it like you want to, Joe Blow or I aren t here to tell you to come out of that cage if you like it in there just fine. However, I am here to open you up to some other alternatives to living the life of a true spiritual being and feeling alive. The choice is definitely yours...may the force be with you! You will learn the basics of First Aid from controlling bleeding, practicing basic splinting, recognition of and treatment of sudden illnesses, burns, impaled objects on the body, and conditions resulting from extreme weather exposure.
