1 JUNE 9, 2013 SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY 8:30 and 11:00 AM GATHERING OPENING SENTENCES Todd Jones VOLUNTARY Be Thou My Vision Healey Willan *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. People: Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, (8:30) Stuart Gordon (11:00) Catherine Foster though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; Leader: Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. People: Be still, and know that I am God! (Psalm 46) *PROCESSIONAL HYMN 483 MIT FREUDEN ZART Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above WELCOME AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISCIPLESHIP Todd Jones CALL TO CONFESSION (8:30) Stuart Gordon (11:00) Catherine Foster PRAYER OF CONFESSION Gracious God, full of grace and truth, forgive us for the times we fail to seek Your grace, and hide in something other than the truth You offer. We know You have the power to open the eyes of the blind and set the captive free. We confess that we can be blind to the ways You open up for us, and captive before the very freedom You offer. Forgive us for our failure to see Your way of freedom, pardon our misdirected loyalties and our misplaced trust in forces and fancies smaller than You. Grant that as we repent of our sins, You would raise us from despair and depressing habits to newness of life so that we may glory in the great favor shown to us in Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose blessed name we pray. SILENT CONFESSION

2 LORD, HAVE MERCY Kyrie Eleison ASSURANCE OF PARDON *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn 579 THE WORD AND SACRAMENT ~ Children are invited to come to the front for the baptism. ~ SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (8:30) Todd Jones Lauren and Matthew Hancock are presenting their daughter, Ella Harper Hancock, for baptism. Assisting Elder: Stuart Campbell HYMN FOR BAPTISM TALLIS CANON PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Todd Jones Blessed Lord, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which You have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. SCRIPTURE READINGS Old Testament: I Kings 17:8-24, page 324 New Testament: Luke 7:11-17, page 65 Pastor: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to Young Children and Worship in Room CW-110. HYMN OF PREPARATION 303 (seated) Jesus, Lover of My Soul ABERYSTWYTH SERMON Life Is Stronger Than Death Todd Jones

3 RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (8:30) Stuart Gordon (11:00) Sandra Randleman The Apostles Creed (Traditional) Hymnal Page 14 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER (8:30) Stuart Gordon (Traditional - debts) Hymnal Page 16 COMMISSIONING OF THE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN AND THE LORD S PRAYER (11:00) Sandra Randleman OFFERTORY Malcolm Archer (8:30) We Cannot Measure How You Heal We cannot measure how You heal or answer every sufferer s prayer, yet we believe Your grace responds where faith and doubt unite to care. Your hands, though bloodied on the cross, survive to hold and heal and warn, to carry all through death to life and cradle children yet unborn. The pain that will not go away, the guilt that clings from things long past, the fear of what the future holds are present as if meant to last. But present too is love which tends the hurt we never hoped to find, the private agonies inside, the memories that haunt the mind. So some have come who need Your help, and some have come to make amends as hands which shaped and saved the world are present in the touch of friends. Lord, let Your Spirit meet us here to mend the body, mind and soul, to disentangle peace from pain, and make Your broken people whole. (11:00) Hall Johnson Ain t Got Time to Die Lord, I keep so busy praising my Jesus, Ain got time to die. Cause when I m healing the sick, I m praising my Jesus, Ain got time to die. Lord, I keep so busy working for the Kingdom, Ain got time to die. Cause when I m feeding the poor, I m working for the Kingdom, Ain got time to die. Lord, I keep so busy serving my Master, Ain got time to die. Cause when I m giving my all, I m serving my Master, Ain got time to die. Now, won t you get out of my way, let me praise my Jesus? Out of my way! Let me praise my Lord. If I don t praise Him the rocks are going to cry out, Glory and honor, glory and honor! Ain got time to die! Chorus: Cause it takes all of my time, to praise my Jesus, all of my time to praise my Lord. If I don t praise Him the rocks are going to cry out, Glory an honor! Ain got time to die.
