1 AUGUST 25, 2013 SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY 8:30 and 11:00 AM GATHERING OPENING SENTENCES Todd Jones VOLUNTARY Wenn wir in höchsten Nöten sein (When We Are in Deepest Need) J.S. Bach *CALL TO WORSHIP (8:30) Sam Cooper (11:00) Catherine Foster Leader: I will extol You, my God and King, and bless Your name forever and ever. People: Every day I will bless You, Leader: and praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God s greatness is unsearchable. People: One generation shall laud Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. Psalm 145 *PROCESSIONAL HYMN 466 O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing WELCOME AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISCIPLESHIP AZMON Todd Jones MINUTE FOR MISSION Erica Greene CALL TO CONFESSION (8:30) Sam Cooper (11:00) Sandra Randleman PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord God, Father of all mercies, forgive us for being so often lost in ourselves, dwelling far too long upon yesterday s embarrassments, annoyances and mistakes. Forgive us for when we are too caught up in our own small lives, failing to see beyond our own suspicions, fears and anxieties. Take from us our anger, and visit us with Your peace. Fill us this day with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, that we might be lost instead in the wonder of Your great love for us, and in the grandeur of the Gospel, giving us strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

2 SILENT CONFESSION LORD, HAVE MERCY Kyrie Eleison ASSURANCE OF PARDON *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn 579 THE WORD AND SACRAMENT ~ Children are invited to come to the front for the baptism. ~ SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (11:00) Todd Jones Cindy and Pieter Loggenberg are presenting their daughter, Valentina Loggenberg, for baptism. Assisting Elder: Steve Butler HYMN FOR BAPTISM TALLIS CANON ANTHEM (11:00) Calvin Hampton There s a Wideness in God s Mercy There s a wideness in God s mercy like the wideness of the sea; there s a kindness in His justice, which is more than liberty. There is welcome for the sinner, and more graces for the good; there is mercy with the Savior; there is healing in His blood. There is no place where earth s sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth s failings have such kindly judgment given. There is plentiful redemption in the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head. For the love of God is broader than the measure of the mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more faithful, we should take Him at His word, and our lives would be thanksgiving for the goodness of the Lord.

3 PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Todd Jones God, source of all light, by Your Word You give light to the soul. Pour out upon us the spirit of wisdom and understanding that, being taught by You in Holy Scripture, our hearts and minds may be opened to know the things that pertain to life and holiness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. SCRIPTURE READINGS Old Testament: Jeremiah 1:4-10, page 698 New Testament: Luke 13:10-17, page 76 Pastor: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Christ, to Thee surrendered, my whole heart is bowed. Alpha and Omega, Thou true Son of God. Taste and touch and vision to discern Thee fail; faith that comes by hearing, pierces through the veil. I believe whatever the son of God hath told, what the truth hath spoken that for truth I hold. Word of God incarnate, Lord of life and light, teach me how to love and worship Thee aright. Holy spirit, ever bide within my heart, speaking thy commandments, telling all thou art. Wondrous revelation, verity and grace. Lo, in glory s heaven, I see thee face to face. Light of endless light whom heaven and earth adore, fill me with thy radiance, now and evermore.

4 (11:00) J.S. Bach Jesu, Joy of Man s Desiring Jesu, joy of man s desiring, Holy wisdom, love most bright, drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring, soar to uncreated light. Word of God our flesh that fashioned with the fire of life impassioned. Striving still to Truth unknown, soaring, dying, round Thy throne. Through the way where Hope is guiding, hark, what peaceful music rings, where the flock in Thee confiding, drink of joy from deathless springs. Theirs is beauty s fairest pleasure, theirs is wisdom s holiest treasure. Thou dost ever lead Thine own, in the love of joys unknown. *PRESENTATION AND RESPONSE Doxology OLD HUNDREDTH *PRAYER OF DEDICATION SENDING FORTH *HYMN OF COMMITMENT 423 Jesus Shall Reign Where er the Sun *CHARGE AND BENEDICTION DUKE STREET Todd Jones *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE AR HYD Y NOS Go, My Children, with My Blessing Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone.
