People: You stretch out the heavens like a tent, You set the beams of Your chambers on the waters. Leader: Bless the Lord, O my soul. Let us worship our God. (from Psalm 104:1-3a) *PROCESSIONAL HYMN 12 Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise ST. DENIO WELCOME AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISCIPLESHIP CALL TO CONFESSION (8:30) Stuart Gordon (11:00) Adam DeVries PRAYER OF CONFESSION Merciful God, You pardon all who truly repent and turn to You. We humbly confess our sins and ask Your mercy. We have not loved You with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with You, our God. Have mercy on us, O God, in Your loving-kindness. In Your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin.
2 Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from Your presence, or take Your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation, and sustain us with Your bountiful Spirit. (A moment for silent confession.) LORD, HAVE MERCY Kyrie Eleison ASSURANCE OF PARDON *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Gloria Patri Hymn 581 THE WORD AND SACRAMENT CHILDREN S TIME (8:30) (8:30) Stuart Gordon Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to Young Children and Worship in Room CW-110. HYMN OF PREPARATION Nearer, My God, to Thee Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee! BETHANY Nearer, my Lord, to thee, nearer to Thee, Who to Thy cross didst come, dying for me! Strengthen my willing feet, hold me in service sweet nearer, O Christ, to Thee, nearer to Thee! Nearer, O Comforter, nearer to Thee, Who with my loving Lord dwellest with me! Grant me Thy fellowship! Help me each day to keep nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee! SERMON What Are You Seeking? RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Sam Cooper The Apostles Creed Hymnal Page 35 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER (debts) Hymnal Page 35 OFFERTORY (8:30) Savior Guide Us Nancy M. René Savior, guide us in Your way; bring us near You day by day. Maker, mold us in Your will, move us forward filled with Your love and blessing. Lead us, O Master; Savior, come hasten our call! Lead us, take us and make us faithful servants of Your love. Shepherd, shield us in Your care; feed us, free us from despair. Jesus, Savior, hear our prayer; shine Your light upon us. (11:00) Herbert Howells All My Hope on God is Founded All my hope on God is founded; He doth still my rest renew. Me through change and chance he guideth, only good and only true. God unknown, He alone calls my heart to be His own. Pride of man and earthly glory, sword and crown betray His trust; what with care and toil He buildeth, tower and temple, fall to dust. But God s power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. Daily doth the Almighty Giver bounteous gifts on us bestow; His desire our soul delighteth, pleasure leads us where we go.
4 Love doth stand at His hand; joy doth wait on His command. Still from man to God eternal Sacrifice of praise be done, High above all praises praising for the gift of Christ His Son. Christ doth call one and all: ye who follow shall not fall. *PRESENTATION AND RESPONSE Doxology OLD HUNDREDTH *PRAYER OF DEDICATION SENDING FORTH *HYMN OF COMMITMENT 462 I Love to Tell the Story *CHARGE AND BENEDICTION HANKEY *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE 547 AR HYD Y NOS Go, My Children, with My Blessing Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone.
