2 The services begin on the laminated cards with the Lord s Prayer. THE COLLECT OF THE DAY ALMIGHTY God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty, to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen. FIRST READING: Isaiah Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. 2 He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; 3 a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. 4 He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his teaching. 5 Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: 6 I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 8 I am the LORD, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. 9 See, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth, I tell you of them. Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM: Please join in saying the verses printed in bold 1 In you, O Lord my God, have I put my hope: in you have I trusted, let me not be ashamed, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 2 Let none who wait for you be put to shame: but let those that break faith be confounded and gain nothing. 3 Show me your ways, O Lord: and teach me your paths. 4 Lead me in the ways of your truth, and teach me: for you are the God of my salvation. 5 In you have I hoped all the day long: because of your goodness, O Lord. 6 Call to mind your compassion and your loving-kindness: for they are from of old. 2
3 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: but according to your mercy think on me. 8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he direct sinners in the way. 9 The meek he will guide in the path of justice: and teach the humble his ways. 10 All the paths of the Lord are faithful and true: for those who keep his covenant and his commandments. SECOND READING: 1 Thessalonians How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you? 10 Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith. 11 Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you. 12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. 13 And may he so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. THE GOSPEL Alleluia! Alleluia! Be watchful, pray without ceasing, that you may worthy to stand before the Son of Man Alleluia! The Lord be with you. And also with you. 3 Please Stand The Holy Gospel our Lord Jesus Christ according to St Luke: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ! 25 There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26 People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. 29 Then he told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees; 30 as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the
4 kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 34 Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day does not catch you unexpectedly, 35 like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. 37 Every day he was teaching in the temple, and at night he would go out and spend the night on the Mount of Olives, as it was called. 38 And all the people would get up early in the morning to listen to him in the temple. For the Gospel of the Lord: praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. The Services continues on the laminated card with the Nicene Creed. 4
5 HYMN DURING COMMUNION Please join in singing 2 O come, O come, thou Lord of might who to thy tribes on Sinai s height in ancient times didst give the law in cloud and majesty and awe. Rejoice! Rejoice! 3 O come, thou key of David, come, and open wide our heavenly home; make safe the way that leads on high and close the path to misery. Rejoice! Rejoice! 4 O come, thou rod of Jesse, free thine own from Satan s tyranny; from depths of hell thy people save and give them victory o er the grave. Rejoice! Rejoice! 5 O come, thou dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent here; disperse the gloomy clouds of night and death s dark shadows put to flight. Rejoice! Rejoice! trans. 6 PLEASE PRAY WITH US FOR THE WORLD Improved relationship between Russia and Ukraine; those who have lost homes and livelihoods through bush fires this week; provision of daily needs for the people of Yemen dealing with civil war and starvation from famine; improvement in the relationship between the Israeli Government and Palestinians living on the Gaza Strip; safety and provision of daily needs for refugees around the world, the removal of children and adult refugees from Nauru. THOSE SUFFERING FROM DROUGHT Our heavenly Father, we acknowledge our ingratitude when we have taken your goodness for granted, when the heaven has poured forth rain and the earth has produced its fruit. Yet now we cry to you for help, as the drought in Australia deepens. Have mercy on our land; have mercy on the people of the land. May your bountiful hand send forth rain upon our parched earth. Fulfil your promises that while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest shall not cease, so that those in remote and rural areas may find relief from their distress and glorify your name for the provision of their needs. We ask this in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen. THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain (Bp Carlos López- Lozano).
