2 CATHEDRAL OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION ALBANY First Reading: Daniel s apocalyptic vision portends a time of distress when some will live forever and others will know eternal shame and horror. Those who are wise will emit a bright glow in the sky. Those who lead others to justice will be like eternal stars. Would that our light shine forever in the Lord! Second Reading: No other offering is necessary for our sins. Christ the high priest offered his one sacrifice for sins. Now he sits at God s right hand. His one offering did more for us than the daily offerings of every other priest. Through Christ s offering, he has made us perfect forever. He consecrates us and makes us holy. Gospel: How ominous, yet hopeful Jesus words to his disciples are! Darkness will follow the tribulation. The son of Man will come with power and glory to gather his chosen ones from all directions. Both heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus words will not. Our hope is in the word for it tells of our salvation in Jesus. When all this will take place, we do not know. We must be vigilant each day. The Cathedral Office and Food Pantry will be closed Thursday November 22nd and Friday November 23rd. A Moment in Time November 16, 1902 Consecration and Golden Jubilee of the Cathedral This weekend, as we commemorate the 166 th anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral, we can also look back to another historic milestone the Consecration and Golden Jubilee of the Cathedral held on November 16, As presented in the Souvenir program published for the occasion, The golden jubilee of a parish is truly a great event in its history; it is an occurrence which lifts the parishioners above the present, and enables them to take a panoramic view of all the principal events that have taken place among them. The program goes on to say: As the word jubilee signifies, this was indeed a day of jubilation for all those who were present, and replete with sweet and consoling memories for the oldest members of the parish. It was a day of joy for our Rt. Rev. Bishop, and our Rev. Rector, both of whom contributed largely to bring about this happy consummation of a work begun fifty years before; a day of joy for the priests and the people of the diocese and city of Albany, for the Cathedral is the mother church of the diocese and city; but in an especial manner was it a day of joy for the Cathedral congregation whose privilege it is to adore and pray in the magnificent temple consecrated forever to the glory and service of God. Well, therefore, may they exclaim with the royal prophet: How beautiful are thy tabernacles O Lord of Hosts, for nowhere in this fair land of ours is there a more complete, a more symmetrical, a more devotional church, one more worthy of Him who dwells upon our altars. 2

Thanksgiving Baskets Advertisements are reminding us that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This year we estimate that 125 families will request food baskets. We are once more appealing to you for your generous support. This year we are asking for $10.00 Price Chopper gift cards so that we can give each family a gift card to purchase a desserts that is not included in the Thanksgiving food baskets we give out. 5 November 18, 2018 THANKSGIVING DAY On Thursday, November 22nd we celebrate Thanksgiving. There will be only one on that day at 10:00am.. All are invited to bring some nonperishable food to help replenish the parish food pantry after the distribution of food to those in need for Thanksgiving. Please note: Parish offices will be closed on Friday, November 23. and confessions will still be celebrated on Friday. Cathedral Christmas Flowers and Decorations A wonderful way to remember your deceased relatives and friends, as well as the living, is to place flowers in their memory or honor in the Cathedral. Please fill out one of the flower envelopes that can be found in church or in the envelope that was included in your latest set of envelopes. Please return your envelope in the collection basket or to the rectory before December 20, Your contributions will help defray the cost the Cathedral will pay for the beautiful Christmas decorations.
