1 Your faith has saved you. Go in peace. 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 12, 2016
2 My Dear Parishioners, I hope that the summer is providing you with an opportunity to slow down and take life a little easier. When we are more relaxed, we are then in a much better disposition to receive the good things that our loving God wants to give us and also to discern what is really important in our lives. Today s Gospel is yet another account of Jesus sharing a meal. The central character is the woman who quietly, gently and humbly offers her devotion to Jesus by anointing him with oil. Information about her is known by the host of the meal. She is a sinner. The beautiful act of anointing is a sign of her love and faith. Jesus accepted it as he accepted her totally and unconditionally. To the religious people at the dinner party, he told a story about those who are forgiven a great deal being the ones who will love him more. There is so much God wants to give us through his Son. During the hot days of summer I hope that we can realize ways we might be living that are not compatible for those marked with the sign of the cross through baptism. Are we more like the woman in the story or the Pharisee who invited Jesus to his table? I will be away for two weeks of vacation. May we hold each other in prayer and find ways in which we might wash and anoint the feet of others, especially those most in need. With love and prayers, Fr. Phil Please keep those affected by the recent flooding in your prayers. I invite you to consider donating to the Catholic Charities Disaster Recovery Fund. You can donate online by visiting catholiccharities.org/help-flood-victims. If you would like to make a gift by mail, send your check made out to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to 2900 Louisiana Street, Houston, Texas To make a gift by phone call
