PAGE 3 District Update The end of 2017 will also mean the dissolution of the GWRRA Regions as the organization focuses on building and sustaining its association through the strength of its Districts and Chapters. We have appreciated having the expertise of the Region Staff and will certainly miss their leadership. Thanks to all who have contributed and have made us proud to be Incredibles. JOB WELL DONE!! After 28 years of membership and active participation in GWRRA at all levels, Bill Lea has decided to retire from his District Director position but will continue to enjoy his membership without any future obligations. Congratulations to you Bill, and thank you for your lifetime of commitment to the organization. Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday observed annually on November 11 that honors military veterans -- those who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. In 1954 after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation s history and after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress at the urging of the veteran s service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. To our special Chapter T veterans and to all our GWRRA veterans, we take this opportunity to say: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Our connection to one another is the bridge that closes the gap. Unknown
PAGE 4 Director s Corner Glen On Change As we wind down to the tail end of the year, Chapter T is already experiencing the effects of change. Far be it from me to even address the first change -- the weather -- since everything that could possibly be said about the approaching winter season has already been stated in numerous GW publications hundreds of times before. The second change in our motorcycle world is the introduction of the totally new Honda Goldwing bikes for You can learn everything you would ever want to know about them by Googling 2018 Honda Goldwing on your computer machine. There are so many changes to the new touring bike model that I won t attempt to summarize them in this limited space. You ll have to wait until February of 2018 before the new models appear in the Honda showrooms. However, at that point, you can make up your own mind as to whether you think the new models are a marked improvement over what we ve been riding for the past 16 years. You have also most likely already heard about the third change which involves the restructuring of the GWRRA reorganization. The change will become effective on January 1, 2018 and is designed to make life at the Chapter level even more fun than it has been in the past. How s that for a win-win situation? Here at Chapter T we should expect to see some staffing changes as we strive to improve our operation. Our challenge going forward will be to work with the District staff to fulfill our needs and accomplish things that had previously been covered by either the District or the Region I staffs. That s where you will find the most changes. Through it all, we should maintain a positive attitude that the changes will be for the better for our chapter and continue doing what we do best which is to ride and have fun and enjoy Joey s events! Glen Goff Chapter Director I m not sure what I have gotten myself into with this contract, but I m still looking for the fine print. Richard Paul Evans: The Mistletoe Promise
PAGE 5 Gary Ride Coordinator Ramblings So many roads, so little time And we have covered lots of ground since July! On July 15, we had a great breakfast ride to Trudy s in Idaho City with 10 bikes and 15 riders. Afterwards a group of us rode the Lowman Loop while others returned directly to the Treasure Valley. July found 13 of us at the District Rally in Salmon. The Lemhi Valley is so pleasant, scenic rides, and lots of history in the area. On August 12, there were 17 riders on 13 bikes, a record I think, that rode the New Meadows/McCall Loop. Our group included some first-timers as well. After lunch at The Pancake House in McCall, the heat caught up with us as we headed into Horseshoe Bend. It was another satisfying and safe ride. August 26 saw us riding to Soldier Mountain Ski Resort with lunch in Fairfield. Ten riders on six bikes made the trip that included a little interruption by a cattle drive near Hill City. Yes, this is Idaho! After lunch, we rode to Gooding, US 26 to Bliss and old US Hwy 30 to Mountain Home before heading home. Another warm and fun day with good company. On September 16, Glen led a ride to Stanley with 9 participants on 7 bikes who enjoyed a stop near Grandjean for a nice view of the west side of the Sawtooths and then over to Stanley Lake. After lunch in Stanley, a tour of Redfish Lake provided the vistas of Redfish Lake with the Sawtooths in the background. What a great ride! On September 30, 13 of us on 10 bikes rode to Owyhee Reservoir on an absolutely beautiful day. No water flowing in the glory hole like it was in the spring. Afterwards, we rode to Vale for a great lunch and then gheaded home through Parma. o ooctober 31 st found us on an impromptu ride to Cascade d with lunch at Grandma s, off to a chilly start but a great ride overall. November 4 was last official ride for the season with lunch at The Orchard House for 13 in attendance. Remember -- Always ride within your skills and avoid distractions. Gary Evans Ride Coordinator Gary & Maxeen One s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller
PAGE 6 Rider Education and Safety Bubba This will be my last commentary as your Chapter Educator as the position is going away. Beginning in January 2018, the Idaho District will start servicing the rider education needs of the chapters. It s been a pleasure and I wish you all the very best. As our riding season slowly winds down, let s not forget to winterize our bikes. It just takes a minute and makes it easier to start in the spring. This includes Stabil in the gas, tire pressure, and battery tender. For those still willing to brave the elements, BRAVO!! Again, it s been a pleasure. Dwayne Ellison Chapter Educator September 50/50 Congratulations Glen Goff! (and thank you for the donation to our treasury) October 50/50 Congratulations Ed Murphy! It doesn t matter how many resources you have If you don t know how to use them it will never be enough. Saved from twitter.com

PAGE 8 Membership Enhancement Joey When is the last time you asked your Chapter Team: How can I be of help? Chapters always welcome assistance at gatherings, rides, and events. As we head into 2018 with a bevy of changes in the Membership program, it is now more important than ever that we come together and support our chapter. The alternative is to lose all the family and friends we have made these past seven years. Your Chapter Team works hard to find new ways to have fun, increase interest at the gatherings, and grow the chapter. We had some great times this past year and we are busy planning some new experiences for you next year. Your Chapter Team wants to hear your ideas too, so don t be shy! Remember why you joined GWRRA and why you stay. Most of us joined to have someone to ride our bikes with. Riding our motorcycles is in many cases the sole common bond Chapter members have because we come from all different backgrounds and walks of life. On those few good days when you can ride, don t forget to invite a neighbor or friend to enjoy bike time with you. If they ride but are not members of GWRRA, invite them to check us out and direct them to our website so they can check out our newsletter and the pictures of all the good times we had this past year. Remember, the more members we have, the more fun! Joey Goff Membership Enhancement Coordinator Connection is the energy that is created between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued when they can give and receive without judgment. 9 PAGE 9 Winter Solstice Thursday, December 21, 2017 With autumn nearly gone and the Winter Solstice coming in less than 40 days, the holidays are soon upon and all the chaos that goes with it! Are you ready? As we celebrate the opportunity to be with family and friends, let s keep in mind all the things for which we have been so richly blessed, give thanks for our families and extended families, our friends, our liberty, and our freedom. We can pick and choose our dreams and travel freely. And don t underestimate the value that a good friend adds to your life. Please be as thoughtful and generous towards others this season as you possibly can. If you can, donate your time, money, or food to help others less fortunate enjoy a holiday meal. Share your wealth and your blessings -we all have so very much. And if you are traveling, please be safe. The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, is an astronomical phenomenon marking the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year. In the Northern Hemisphere this is the December solstice and in the Southern Hemisphere this is the June solstice. Source: Wikipedia Sunrise Café Showing Gratitude Your Chapter Team has recommended that we take up a collection at the November Gathering for the Sunrise staff who have been so welcoming and eager to serve us this year. It has been difficult to find an accommodating location for our dinner meetings, and as it is with every large group, sometimes things can get bumpy. Please be generous with in your donation at the November Gathering as our gift to the staff would be potentially split 4 ways between the server(s), busser, and cook. They have done their best to make us happy and to keep this location, we would like to show our appreciation for their service. This gratuity is in lieu of taking on a holiday charity. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, it is the parent of all others. Cicero
