2 Chapter Director s Notes Hello,members of VT A, Summer is fast approaching and we are Hello, looking members forward of to VT having A, a wonderful and safe summer With our family and friends of Vermont chapter A. we would like to take a second and remind everyone to make sure that they have their bikes or trikes serviced and ready to ride this season, it is important to be safe on the roads, some motorist have a hard time seeing us on the road so please stay alert and enjoy your summer. We have had some members that have been having some health issues, lisa and I would like to send our thoughts and prayers out to each and every one of you wishing you all the best and hope for a speedy recovery. We also are grateful for the turnouts we have been getting at our monthly gatherings, please stop by and join us at our next gathering. If you have questions or ideas for FUN, please contact one of the members of the 2017 Chapter Team and let them know. 10 Chapter Educator - Doug Martin April Safety Article Too old to ride Taken from Health matters from Motorcycle consumer news. By Dr. Flash Gordon, M.D. It is important to realize that no matter how long we ve been riding, or how good we are, we re still vulnerable. Motorcyclists are more likely to be injured in a mishap than car drivers, for obvious reasons. Most car drivers are securely strapped into a cage with protective air bags. We have all heard the saying that there are two kinds of bike riders. Those who have been down, and those who are going down. There are some potentially helpful technologies arriving, like air bag collars that will protect against neck fractures. But there are things we should do now to minimize the potential damage from falling down. For those of who have crashed, you know the value of good protective gear. Dr. Gordon says that one of the stupidest things he sees is riders not wearing gloves. When we fall, we put our hands out in front of us to break our fall. When our hands meet the road while we are moving, it is almost exactly like falling onto a cheese grater. The skin on the palms of our hands is very special and sensitive tissue-you don t want to scrape it off. There is no other skin on our body that can replace that on the palms of our hands. Also, Dr. Gordon says that those who ride in shorts and flip flops are probably better off leaving the gene pool. Age and condition make a big difference when we crash. Younger people tend to bounce where the more mature folks tend to crunch. Bones tend to become more fragile when we age. That is where condition comes into play. Those who are in better physical shape have the muscle mass to help protect our bones and joints. A youngster taking a hit from a NFL Line Backer would probably bounce where I might end up in the ER. Therefore, it would be beneficial to be in the best shape we can to improve our riding enjoyment. In conclusion, ride safe, and keep in good shape and wear quality protective gear. Doug Martin

Recipe Corner BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP 2-10OZ CANS OF CHUNK CHICKEN 2-8 OZ CREAM CHEESE 1 CUP RANCH DRESSING ¾ CUP FRANKS RED HOT SAUCE 1 ½ CUPS SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE HEAT CHICKEN AND HOT SAUCE IN A SKILLET ON MEDIUM HEAT UNTIL WARM. STIR IN RANCH DRESSING AND CREAM CHEESE. MIX IN ½ OF THE CHEDDAR CHEESE. COOK UNTIL CHEESE IS MELTED. PUT INTO A PIE PLATE BAKING DISH AND COVER WITH REMAINING CHEESE. BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR MINUTES. SERVE WITH FRITO CHIPS. ENJOY!

12 CHAPTER NEWS Food for the Maine Weekend, September 14, 15,16, will be hamburgers, hot dogs and salads. Gary and Becky will be getting a price. September Maine trip Bring a NEW item for the Chinese auctio $ $20.00 this is for members of vt. A only Kite flying contest in Maine in September-- if you want to participate in the contest you have to bring your own kite. Open Door Mission if anyone wants to volunteer on Saturday April 8, please see Gary or Becky. Doug and Barb agreed to help out. May 21th Blessing of the Bikes, non- chapter event, Red Knights coordinate this ride. Meet at Denny s at 9:30 am and will ride as a group to Ground Round parking lot (formally Ponderosa Restaurant). May 27th Mystery Ride, (rain date 28 th ) meet at Denny s, kick stands up at 9:30am. June 17th and 18 th overnight ride to Old Forge, NY. We will meet at Sweet Caroline s, Price Chopper parking lot, West Rutland, VT 9 am. Dec 9, VT Chapter A Christmas party will be at Sweet Caroline s in West Rutland, VT. It will be buffet style. Beef, Chicken and a Fish will be offered as part of the buffet. You will be responsible for your own beverages. At least $10.00 from the Chapter will be contributed to your meal. We are still working out some details more to follow.
