Clyde Simpson, wife of the first pastor of the Mint Hill Baptist Church, died on Wednesday, September 17, at the Union Memorial Hospital in Monroe. Mrs. Simpson, 62 and her husband made their home in Union County on Route I, Ridge Road, Indian Trail. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Simpson on Friday, September 19 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Union County. The Reverend James W. Parks, pastor of the church officiated. He was assisted by the Reverend C. Floyd Helms, Sr., a retired Baptist minister, and the Reverend Joe S. Larrimore, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Monroe. Active pallbearers included two grandsons: Larry Douglas Simpson; Michael Dale Simpson; two nephews, Norris Simpson Price; Vernon Heath Simpson; and two deacons of the church, Coy Cecil Helms; and Charles Kenneth Tyson. Mrs. Simpson, the former Vergie Mae Price, was born in the Goose Creek township of Union County on September 20, She was the fourth of nine children born to the late Alonzo Wentz Price and Perry Jeanette Price. A homemaker, Mrs. Simpson attended Ebenezer Baptist Church as a child. She and her husband were both baptized during the same baptismal service in August of 1931, prior to their 'marriage. They returned their church memberships there after retirement. Rev. Simpson was an active Baptist minister for nearly 30 years. During that time he and Mrs. Simpson joined what'fer church he was serving and she was active in all phases of church work. e Simpson's were catted to the newly organized Mint Hill Baptist Church several months prior to the chartering of the congregation into a full church and served there from August of 1949 until At lhat time they moved to Lumberton, North Carolina where he served churches there for a total of nine and one half years. In 1964 the Simpson's returned to Charlotte where he had accepted the call to serve the Berryhill Baptist Church. Survivors include her widower, The Reverend Baxter Clyde Simpson, to whom she was married on April 4, 1936; their five daughters, Mrs. Billy Ray Griffin of Mint Hill, Mrs. Johnny Yelton Benton of Shelby, Mrs. James Dewey Britt of Charlotte, Mrs. Stephen Earl Geiger and their four sons, Larry Clyde Simpson of Indian Trail, Johnny Wentz Simpson of Dunn, Steve Devon Simpson of Stanley, and Carey Dale Simpson of Charl<(tte; and their 21 grandchildren. ij

6 Rev. Simpson To Preach, Magnolia The Magnolia Baptist Church will hold revival services beginning Sunday night, March 25, and continuing through Friday night, March 30. All services begin at 7:30 P.M. Special singing will be featured each night. The guest preacher will be the Reverend B. Clyde Simpson Pastor of the Berryhill Baptist Church of Charlotte. Mr. Simpson is a native of Union County. He held pastorates in Mint Hill, and Lumberton before going to the Berryhill Church in He is an evengelistic pastor who has preached scores of revivals in churches over several states. A minister whose character and manner is compassionate, his messages are simple, inspiring challenges to surrender to God and live for Him.
