1 - The Andrews Journal - Thursday, September 25, 1969 Fram The PASTORS STUDY TOUCH OF THE MASTER In Mark 5:25-34 we are told of a woman Who had a plague which had been a constant source of worry, anxiety, and trouble. One remedy after another had been tried but none of them had cured her. Again and again some person had been suggested who might cure her of the lalady, and with high hopes she had tried them spending all her money until now hopes and money are gone. Can you not see her now despondent and discouraged when she hears that Jesus of Nazareth about whom she has heard is coming by in a little while? She no doubt has heard of his miracles performed through the land. The thought occurs to her that maybe He could and would cure her. Had PASTOR-FIRST not his fame spread among all the villages? The Scripture says "When BAPTIST CHURCH she had heard of Jesus, came in fails when given a chance. The the press behind, and touched world is made up of individual his garment. ' Many of you have been trying all sorts of remedies for your disturbed heart only to find disappointment. You a looking for peace and have\ sought it by throwing yourself into a round of pleasure or vou { have given yourself to hard t work thinking that by occupying your mind you could find peace for your soul. Perhaps you have tried to.'.drown your sorrows,. or [anxiety or trouble in drmk only to find that your 'problems have increased, and peace of heart has not come. Maybe you have gone from one church to another, but the aching heart is still there.. In all this world there is only one way for a life to be cured from the malady of sin and unrest which accompanies sin. The remedy is found in the One who is the great Physician of both soul and body. No one can do what Jesus can do for us. Only CHrist can life a man from the miry clay of doubt and dispair and set his feet ~n solid earth and put a song m his heart. Only Christ can meet. the needs of every soul in this world. If you are lost and know not where to turn let me introduce to you Jesus Christ, the Saviour, who saves from sin and gives power to live a victorious life in this world of chaos and ruin. He will do for each of us what no other can do. P.P. Bliss in his hymn "Man of Sorrows, What A Name" expresses it for us when he says: "Man of Sorrows," What a Name For the Son of God who came Ruined sinners to re-claim! Hallelujah! What a Saviour!" Many people are wondering how this world got into its present condition. They are wondering how we can ever get out. They ask what is the answer. Many remedies have been tried but none have ever solved th~ problem of sin, selfishness, greed, and war. The remedy we propose is the gospel of Christ. 2 Rev. Wells On Tour Rev. Thomas Wells, pastor of the First B,,ruiliS Church, left Sunday for~ Zealand where he will be preaching in the South Pacific Crusade from June 28 to July 5. He will be in, Sidney, Australia as guest of Baptist Churches, there July 6 to 9. He will attend the Baptist World Congress in Tokyo, Japan July 12 to 18. Rev. W.H. Lodwick Alcoa, Tenn. will preach both services on Sunday June 28 and July 5. On July 12 Rev. Fred Lunsford will preach at the 11 o'clock service and Rev. J. Waugh at the evening service. The pastor expects to arrive 1 back home on July 17. Wells, 85, of Andrews died Friday, January 30, 1998, ~n Andrews care center. He was a native of Pulaski, Tennessee but had lived in Cherokee County since He was the son of the late Virgil Henry and Margaret Paysinger Wells. He was a graduate of Carson Newman College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a retired Baptist minister, having pastored at the Park Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee and other churches in the Maryville, Knoxville and Dunlap, Tennessee area. He pastored the Andrews First Baptist Church for eight years and interimed at many ch rches in this area. He was a p t board member of the North C olina Baptist Children's Home and was a member of the Andrews First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 63 ears, Lillie Miriam Wells Wells; a daughter, Kathy Mintz of Andrews; and two grandchil. dren, Craig Steven Mintz and Melanie Leah Mintz. Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, in the Andrews First Baptist Church with Dr. Chester Jones and the Rev. Fred Lunsford officiating. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. Pallbearers were 'Eddie and Keith Wood, Lynn Watson, Virgil Gibson, Jim Garner and Dr. Gary Roper. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Andrews First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 427, Andrews, NC Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, charge of all arrange-

Isaiah 52:7 Brother Thomas Wells, a native of Pulaski, Tennessee served Andrews First Baptist Church from 1967 to During his effective and exemplary ministry he touched the lives of those within his church family and beyond. Brother Tom's life was characterized by courage, humility, encouragement and dignity. He will long be remembered as a great great pastor and friend.
