3 lement Church Gets Pasto AUTRYVILLE - The Rev. IClement Baptist Church, Autry- John Earl Pearson of Morgan- ville, Rt,,'OIl Sunday. ton will begin his pastorate at I He succeeds the Rev. Robert Tilley, who left the church to become a navy chaplain. The church has been without a regular pastor since he left about a year ago. The Rev. Mr. Pearson is a graduate of Brevard Junior College at Brevard and also studied at Wake Forest College. He has held pastorates at Bat Cave, N.C., Baltimore, Md., Dobson, N. Wilkesboro and Lenoir. At the time he accepted the Clement pastorate, the Rev. Mr. Person was serving as superintendent of missions for the Catawba River Baptist Association, with headquarters at Morganton. He is married to the former Pearl Elizabeth Price of Asheville and they have three children.

4 Rev. Earl Pearson, BC!J?tistMinister, Claim'ed By Death The Rev. John Earl Pearson, 54, of Clement, died Sunday afternoon in Duke Hospital at Durham following an illness of foul' weeks. Rev. Pearson was the father of Mrs. Wayne Keller of Lenoir and was a former pastor of Kings Creek Baptist Church. A Buncombe County native, he had formerly served as associational missionary for the Brushy Mountain Baptist Association in Wilkes County, and the Catawba Valley Association in Burke County. He was presently serving as pastor of Clement Baptist Church in Cumberland County. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl Elizabeth Pearson of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Bobby Philyaw of Huntsville, Ala.; one son, Mark Pearson of the U. S. Marine Corps; two sisters, Mrs. Lee Taylor "and Mrs. D. L. Warren, both of Asheville, and three grandchildren. The :(uneral was conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clement Bap- List Church. Burial was in Blue Ridge Memorial Park it} Lenoir at 4 :30 p.m. Wednesday. J. Earl Pearson, we wish to express our gratitude to Cod and our sincere appreciation to you and your late husband who served our association as our missionary family so effectively and devotedly during the years of October 1957 to April We shall always remember with thanksgiving Mr. Pearson as a man of Cod, devoted to his calling as a minister of the Cospel, who exhibited his love for Jesus Christ through his life and through his loyalty to the Creat Commission of our Lord to go into all the world and preach the gospel and to make disciples of all nations. We thank Cod for loaning Brother Earl to us for a short time here in this corner of the Lord's vineyard. Earl Pearson, 53, who died July 18, has requested that memorial gifts be made to Home Missions through the Clement Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 100, Autryville, N. C The Clement pastor died four weeks after undergoing heart surgery at Duke Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Price Pearson; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne D. Keller of Lenoir and Mrs. Bob K. Philyaw of Huntsville, Ala.; a son, Mark Warren Pearson of Autryville, two sisters, Mrs. Lee Taylor and Mrs. D. L. Warren of Asheville, three grandchildren. He served as pastor of the Clement Church for five years and was a former missionary of the Brushy Mountain and Catawba River Associations. He had served as pastor of Kings Creek in Caldwell County and of Dobson Church in Surry County. After an earlier service on July 21 at the Clement Church, Mr. Pearson was buried in the Blue Ridge Cemetery in Lenoir," with Missionary Bill Goble of the Catawba River Association conducting the services. These Minutes by vote of the New South River Baptist Association, meeting in Annual Session, October 20, 1971 at the Faymont Baptist Church, are respectfully dedicated in memory of the Rev. James Earl Pearson who for the past five years served as pastor of the Clement Baptist Church, Autryville Baptist Church, Autryville, N.C During the time of his pastorate at Clement, he finished his college work at Campbell College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In the spring of 1971 he graduated from Southeastern Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree. In addition to the pastorate at Clement, Rev. Pearson has served 13 years as Associatlonal Missionary in the Catawba River Baptist Association and the Bushy Mruntain Baptist Association. Other pastorates in North Carolina include Kings Creek, Dobson and Bat Cave. Maryland pastorates include Patterson Park, Colgate and Woolford Memorial. 3
