1 Leam Valley Messenger From the Registers Baptism: We welcome into the life and membership of the church family: Flecknoe December /January 2017 Rev Jane Close The Vicarage, Lower Street Tel: Mobile: Reader: Dr Alec Parker Orchard Bungalow Broadwell Tel: If you wish to contact Rev Jane by , her address is: The Christmas Ten Commandments Funerals: Alexa Charlotte Meigh on 30 th October at Jacob Hunter Meigh on 30 th October at We offer our sympathy and the assurance of our prayers to the relatives and friends of: Irene Singleton whose Funeral took place on 1 st November at. Nick Hodges whose Funeral took place on 4 th November at. Church News and Notices The following item appeared in another church newsletter and contains some good advice that will help us keep selfishness in check this Christmas: I. Thou shalt not leave "Christ" out of Christmas, making it "Xmas." To some, "X" is unknown. II. Thou shalt prepare thy soul for Christmas. Spend not so much on gifts that thy soul is forgotten. III. Thou shalt not let Santa Claus replace Christ, thus robbing the day of its spiritual reality. IV. Thou shalt not burden the shop girl, the postman, and the merchant with complaints and demands. V. Thou shalt give thyself with thy gift. This will increase its value a hundred fold, and he/she who receiveth it shall treasure it forever. VI. Thou shalt not value gifts received by their cost. Even the least expensive may signify love, and that is more priceless than silver and gold. VII. Thou shalt not neglect the needy. Share thy blessings with many who will go hungry and cold unless thou art generous. VIII. Thou shalt not neglect thy church. Its services highlight the true meaning of the season. IX. Thou shalt be as a little child. Not until thou has become in spirit as a little one art thou ready to enter into the kingdom of Heaven. X. Thou shalt give thy heart to Christ. Let Him be at the top of thy Christmas list. Every Blessing. Jane Keeping you in the picture Thank you so much for the get well cards, flowers, food and your lovely visits since my operation and ongoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately it looks like my chemo will be extended into January and so may I ask for your continued prayers and support, not only for me and my family, but those who are organising the services during this time. Jane Thank You A very warm thank you to all those who cleaned and arranged all the flowers for the Harvest Services, the Churches were beautifully decorated. Remembrance Sunday Services Soldiers who served in both World Wars were remembered along with all who lost lives serving this Country to enable future generations to have freedom. Thank you to all who helped contribute in researching the history of the names read out, and those who decorated the churches and set out the displays. Our intention is to repeat the memorial displays in the next three Remembrance Sunday Services, adding more each year. It was very poignant to read their stories and see some photo s, bringing home the huge sacrifices that were made. Thank you also to those who manned the church in the afternoon for people to wander in to look at the displays and serve refreshments
