I am very excited to serve as your new Grand Knight for the Fraternal Year, to work closely with our brothers and the Ladies Auxiliary. I want to try new activities this coming year so please if you have any new ideas in mind let me know. Here are some of the activities for this month: July 11, Business Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the hall July 15, Corporate Communion at the 9:30 a.m. Mass St Genevieve July 18, Family Unity at 6:30 p.m. July 22, Pancake Fundraiser for Brother Tim Thomas and family from 7:00 a.m. 12 noon at the hall. This month we will not be having an Admissions Degree. Also we are in need of help for our Scholarship recipient Ms. Alejandra Estrada who has been invited to World Youth Day in Panama City, Panama. The fundraiser is to help her with the expense of $ This fundraiser will take place at Holy Cross School on July 8, 2018 from 7:30-12:00 noon. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I also ask all the Brother and Ladies to please keep our council in your prayers and also all those in need. 3 COUNCIL/FAMILY/COMMUNITY Family Unity Night with La Casa and La Pinon June 20th: This year, our Council chose local charities La Casa and La Pinon to receive the proceeds from our Spring Dinner Dance Fundraiser. We achieved a net profit of $750, and were able to present a check for $375 to each of the charities at our June 20 th Family Unity Night (FUN). As is our custom, we invited representatives from each of the charities to join us for our potluck dinner as the Guests of Honor; and we asked them to provide us with a short description of the missions of the charities that they represent. Pat Acosta from La Casa and Flor Gonzales from La Pinon joined us, and gave us real-life descriptions of how their agencies reach out to the local community. At the conclusion of the evening, Jesus Frietze, Mother s Day Dinner Dance Chairman, presented our checks to each of them. We offer thanks to God for our blessings and for the food we are about to receive. La Pinon s Flor Gonzales spoke of the harsh realities of sexual abuse and recovery. She showed us how hard it is to discuss sexual abuse with others. There was laughter during the talks! 4 Newly-Elected Grand Knight Jose Tapia Introduces Himself Dear Brothers and Ladies of Council 13969, I d like to introduce myself as your new Grand Knight Elect Jose Alfredo Tapia. It gives me great pleasure to be your Grand Knight for the new fraternal year I look forward to working side by side with all the new officers of our council and the ladies auxiliary in all our future projects. I pray our council continues to grow in faith and trust as we continue working together to make this great council even greater. Last year, he was Deputy Grand Knight & Community Director GK Jose Tapia has been our head cook since joining us. Here he gives a thumbs up to the food! More recently, Jose has been trained as an Altar Server. COMMUNITY/COUNCIL Special, Year-End Entry Degree Initiations: In order to accommodate Community Council Goals for Fraternal Year , Grand Knight Jaime Flores asked our Entry Degree Team to be available on all Tuesdays from 29 May through 26 June. The Team was able to do this. We initiated two new Knights into local councils during this period. On two of the occasions, no candidates were available for Initiation. 5 INSURANCE AGENT S MESSAGE The Feast of St. Anthony of Padua June 13th There was a special Mass at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, June 13 th honoring the feast day of St. Anthony of Padua. After Mass, Father Kevin McDonald led a Rosary Procession around San Jose/St. Joseph Cemetery in honor of Santo Nino de Atocha and to pray for the Souls in Purgatory. LTC Is an Important Piece of the Puzzle This was a traditional Hispanic Procession remembering Santo Nino de Atocha. The Procession carried a statue of a small pilgrim boy carrying his gourd and basket, bringing bread and wine to the persecuted prisoners. This is a rich tradition, loved by Hispanics in America. Thank you, Father Kevin for bringing it to St Genevieve s. There are many financial consultants and retirement authorities who emphasize the need for a long-term care (LTC) product for estate preservation and family protection. We celebrated a Prayer Service in front of St. Genevieve Church after the Cemetery Procession. 7 Visit from La Casa and La Pinon: On Wednesday June 20 th, St. Genevieve hosted our Family Unity Night. We had two speakers; Pat Acosta from La Casa and Flor Gonzales from La Pinon. Both ladies gave very interesting presentations and those present enjoyed the talks. Jesus Frietze, Mother s Day Dinner Dance Chairman, presents our check to Pat Acosta from La Casa Brother Jesus presented a second check for $375 to Flor Gonzales from La Pinon 2018 Mega Bingo Kickoff: We are now seriously preparing for our gala 10 th Anniversary Mega Bingo Fundraiser. A 10 person Mega Bingo Working Group has been formed, and specific assignments are being worked. The committee is Jaime Flores, Jesus Frietze, Bill Klement, Dave Lerma, Al Lopez, Bob Ponzini, Jaime Rivera, Ruben Salcido, Jose Tapia, and Lucio Tellez. There is lots of work to be done in preparation for this major event. If you can help, please let us know! SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS No Exemplifications presently scheduled in July. For information on Exemplifications, go to or The NM State Organizational Meeting will be held on July in Tucumcari. We will be represented by Grand Knight Jose Tapia and Program Director Jaime Flores. Please go to the state website for information. Council jackets are now being ordered. Our Council and Ladies Auxiliary have been assigned to lead the following seven tasks: (1) Selling ads for the Fiesta Book; (2) Coordinating with the parish and printer to put together the Fiesta Book: (3) Ticket Booths; (4) Kids Games; (5) Kids Prize Booth Ladies Auxiliary; (6) Ground Keeping of the fiesta grounds; and (7) Pots and Pans in the kitchen.
