2 FUNDRAISER Selling books and other donated valuables online at Amazon and ebay as a fundraiser for Emmanuel UMC Soon, those books you have enjoyed and no longer need can be sold on Amazon.com to profit the church. We will be setting ourselves us as a bookseller, and will hopefully be able to generate some much needed income to help support our church budget. A team of at least two people are needed who can go online from home and search for the market value of each book, then post it to our Amazon account, and then mail it to the purchaser once sold. Another team of two people will be needed to do the same thing on ebay from home. Donated items to the church that have a greater value than garage sale amounts can be donated to the church. Volunteers can them post them on our ebay page, and then ship the item to the purchaser. These are a couple of great opportunities for us to raise some additional funds for our church. Please see Pastor Pam for details and to volunteer to be an Amazon.com or ebay.com shopkeeper. Our next host week for is May 3 through May 10. There is still need of a Logistics Captain who will organize volunteers for set up, take down and laundry. Also, we need a Meal and Food Supply Captain who will organize the volunteers for the meals for the week to give our families a variety and evaluate the food supplies that have been donated to make sure we have what is needed for the week the families are there. Sign up with Nannette in the Narthex to serve as fellowship, supplies, meals, overnights, laundry (sheets and blankets). There must be an Emmanuel volunteer each night during the host week. GENESIS PANTRY The pantry has been somewhat slow in February and March, but April has been very busy. We have already served 50 families in the first half of April! We are looking forward to the Postal Drive on May 9th. Five of us will be working at the Rockledge Post Office receiving and packing food. On May 11th we will pick up a pallet of the food to bring back to the pantry. Volunteers are needed to help unload the truck at the church at 8:15 am at the pantry. The boxes can be heavy and there may be a lot of them. As we bless struggling families by providing emergency food assistance, our ministry is also a blessing to each of us as we serve as the hands of Christ.

3 Rooms 14/15. Over the past couple of months, several projects around the church campus have been worked on/ completed. Thanks to those who worked to relocate the Kid s Ministry in Room C of Corton Fellowship Hall. The room was entirely repainted and the cabinets/furniture moved from Rooms 14/15. It took many hands to complete the clean-up/repainting of Our sincere appreciation goes is extended to those who completed repairs to the numerous pot holes in our parking lot. To the many who made electrical repairs, completed the painting on the outside of the church, cleaned the parsonage roof, weeded the flower beds and countless other random acts of kindness, we are so grateful. You are awesome! FLORIDA UNITED METHODIST CHILDREN S HOME The annual Day on Campus was celebrated on March 21 st with the majority of 1,100 guests coming from the Atlantic Central (of which we are a part) and South East Districts. This annual event is a wonderful opportunity to visit and see what is offered for such a vast number of needy children. Although we were not able to participate we continue to have the opportunity of 5 th Sunday contributions, which will happen on May 31 st. We are part of a large segment of United Methodists who support this mission for which the FLUMCH is most grateful. Thanks to all. A new fire alarm panel system has been approved by Church Council and will soon be installed in Corton Hall. Trustees will be holding a work day on Saturday, May 16, 2015 after the Men s Breakfast, starting about 9:00AM. The plan is to check/clean all air conditioning unit filters, exercise/lubricate the hurricane shutters on Corton Fellowship Hall, check exterior lighting and sensors, and check/program all thermostats. Hope you can come and help! This Committee sponsors events that reach outside the walls of EUMC to engage with our neighborhood in sharing time, talents and the Gospel. A service opportunity is being planned for May and details will be announced in the Bulletin. So, keep an ear open for further news as the plan is finalized.

4 As Mother s Day approaches, I thank God each day for the wonderful mother he has given me. I also revel in the uniqueness of each of my aunts, and my grandmother who raised those six girls. Being raised in a household I learned that the divine presence was manifest in the loving hands and arms of mothers, and most especially in the life of my grandmother with whom I spent so much time with on weekends and summers. My grandmother s kitchen was a theological laboratory where she taught me how to love people just as naturally as she taught me to make peach cobbler and scratch biscuits. I watched and listened as she ministered to those who were hurting, with a Bible in one hand and a freshly baked coconut cake in the other, despite having no official ministry role within our Methodist tradition. I now experience what is known in theological terms as the absent presence of my grandmother. Though gone from my life, though absent from my everyday reality, my grandmother s presence and wisdom are still here with me, guiding and shaping me. As a Christian, it is the same absent presence as my relationship with God: the knowledge that I am loved by the Divine, even and perhaps most especially in those experiences of absence and loss. I understand God our Father can also love us as a Mother because of all the mothers, aunties, grandmothers, play mothers, godmothers, and c h u r c h m o t h e r s w h o were made in the image of God and who embody God s loving care in all they do. Happy Mother s Day to each of you mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, and all those who mother us in our faith. And praise be to God our Father who loves us so dearly. We had 16 people in attendance. Since the restaurant serves breakfast all the time and lunch, we had our choice of foods. Some had lunch, some had breakfast, but all seemed to enjoy their meals. Next month we will be meeting on May 12 at Bonefish Willy s on Pineapple Ave., in Melbourne. Please call Evelyn Sansom to make reservations by May 10 so we can confirm the number on Monday. CALLING ALL SUNBIRDS & SNOWBIRDS Snowbirds leave the North to escape the snow. Sunbirds leave the South to escape the heat. Most of you have heard the term Shepherd s Staff used recently for our new Church Membership tracking program. It allows us to schedule your addresses based on where you are during certain seasons of the year. If you are currently receiving the monthly newsletter and wish to do so at your alternate summer address, please provide an update of both your address during this time AND a start and end date for each address.
