1 Crystal River United Methodist Church June 13,2014 CRUMC 4801 N. Citrus Ave. Crystal River, FL (352) E Note from Pastor Dear Church, I will be at Conference in Lakeland this week. If you want to catch any of the conference, you can go to and log into the live stream. We will honor our Fathers this weekend for Father s Day, so I hope you will bring your dad to worship if he is living and/or lives close. If your dad is no longer living, come to worship and honor his memory this weekend. We looked at submitting ourselves to God last weekend so we could be transformed by the renewing of our minds, as it says in Romans 12:1-2. God gives each of us free will and He will never impose himself on us. So if you want to be changed, the only way that happens is to be transformed by God through the renewing of your mind. 2 have sat in church all their lives and have never allowed God to transform them. When God does His work in you, you will then be able to know and prove what is true and is the will of God. We are all in need of being transformed. This is a lifetime process, but it is one that only God can do in your life. Submitting to God to change and transform you is difficult, because old habits are hard to let go, but it begins only when you are willing to submit to God s transforming power. Start by giving God one thing that you want Him to change in you. You cannot change everything overnight and you can only change one thing at a time, so give Him one thing to change in you. Then let Him change that one thing and then another and then another, and before long you will become a new person in Christ. You will overcome those habits, hurts and hang ups that have held you in bondage, and you will find freedom in Christ for your life. Sunday we will continue in this series as we look at what we need to do to repair the relationships in which we have caused some harm. If we are going to move forward, after we have allowed God to begin His transforming work in our lives, there are people we may need to go to and ask for forgiveness. Come and learn why this is an important step in dealing with our hurts, habits, and hang ups. I look forward to worshiping with you this weekend. Disciple's Path Celebrate Recovery New Bible Study Volunteer Ethel Winn 9:00 a.m. Traditional Worship (Sanctuary) 10:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship (Sanctuary) Thank you for being a part of this faith community. Thank you for being faithful in supporting the ministries of CRUMC. Thank you for loving God and for loving your neighbor.even when it is a challenge. Thank you for allowing me to be your pastor. See you in worship. Pastor David E- Giving Note It s All About The Blessings If you are new to Crystal River United Methodist Church or to church in general, you may be asking why is it important to give. That is a great question and one that is important to ask. The simple answer is this: It is all about the blessing. There are three things that are blessed when you give. First and foremost, we are blessing God when we give because we are giving to His Kingdom needs, and we are glorifying Him when we give. June 13 Mary Hewitt June 14 Faye Parker David Turner June 15 Courtney Dorman June 16 Darrin Taylor June 17 Rhett Gehring If we have missed your Birthday please contact the office at (352) ,

3 Second, the church is blessed when you give because it uses your gift to carry out God s mission which, in a nutshell, is to love all people and to spread the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ. Third, you are blessed when you give. This is the blessing that many people forget about. When you give you are, according to scripture, being a good manager of your money. Jesus says that when we manage our money well, we are entrusted with eternal wealth. The act of giving is an expression to God that you are a good manager of your money. It is also an expression that you are dependent on God s provisions in your life. By voluntarily depending on God, you are saying to Him that you trust Him. So, when we receive an offering on Sunday morning it is an opportunity to bless God, to bless the church, and to bless yourself. As you give this week, pray for blessings over each of these three things. You can make a consistent gift to God by going to Thank you for your faithfulness in giving to God. Thank You from the Bishop Dear Annual Conference Members, I am writing to thank you for your faithful living as disciples of Jesus Christ by giving 100 percent of your apportionments for Apportionments are your church s share of the funding of the budgets of The United Methodist Church around the world, the Florida Conference, and your District. These budgets are developed and approved by our elected representatives, either as members of the Annual Conference or delegates to the General Conference. When every congregation contributes 100 percent of its apportionments, the whole church is able to meet its many responsibilities to mission and ministry. In short, lives are changed because of your stewardship. or at officestaff@crumc.com June 1 David & Beverly Hickey Bob & Joan Slusser June 5 Eric & Richiko Palhof June 12 Harold & Ernestine Reeder June 18 Arnold & Carol Camp June 19 David & Michele Rawls June 24 Peter & Janice Holmes-Ray June 25 David & Elizabeth Kelly June 29 Kenneth & Cathy Murphy June 30 Fred & Bonnie Whetzel If we have missed your Anniversary please contact the office at (352) , or at officestaff@crumc.com Week at a Glance FRIDAY, June 13, :00 p.m. Celebrate Recovery (S) Fathers Day SUNDAY,June 14, :00 a.m. Traditional (S) 10:30 a.m. Contemporary (S) MONDAY, June 15, 2014

Even though the economy is still in distress, 2013 was proof that in God s economy, God s servants still put into practice the stewardship teachings of Christ. In 2013, conference churches contributed $14,967,197 to the overall apportionment total of $17,617,560. This represents a percent level of giving. This was not done without sacrifice. You are the ones who have a joy in God s gifts, given in abundance, and who are practicing a spirit of generosity that points to a larger vision of the Church as a communion of congregations in common mission and ministry to the world. I hope you will pause in one of your worship services in an upcoming Sunday and share this letter with the people who made this 100 percent level possible. It truly is a sign of the living God at work in your midst. As a further sign of my appreciation and to acknowledge your generosity publicly, I ve arranged for all AC members from your church to receive a ribbon noting your church as one who met 100 percent of their apportionments. The ribbons are available at the Financial Services Booth in the Expo center. Our staff wants to thank you personally, and we hope you will proudly display your ribbon for all to see. May the Spirit of God continue to illumine, guide, and empower you to be God s own people. Bishop Kenneth Carter Youth Sunday is a special time to recognize the youth in our congregation and celebrate their gifts and contributions to our faith community. So please join us on July 6th to Celebrate Youth Sunday and to hear all about their latest mission trip to Fruitland Park Our Congregational Helps to connect people in the congregation through visitation, phone calls, s, and correspondence. 5 Church Trustees Trustees Update as of June 2014 Since the beginning of the year, Ronnie Schmitt has presided as chairman of the Trustees. Charles Ayers is Vice-Chairman and Nancy Hammond is Secretary. Other members are Bob Kegan, Craig Raiford, Doug Shaffer, and Jenny Bass. Our major project is the addition for Bethel Chapel. This addition will add a much needed bathroom, as well as a bridal room to the front of the chapel. Donnie Brown created a brochure and kicked off a fundraising campaign. The fundraiser is for $60 per square foot donations. This campaign was started by a seed donation by the Tolle family in memory of Mrs. Kay Tolle. Currently over $26,000 have been raised with another approximately $14,000 needed. Final plans have been drawn up by an architect and we will begin taking bids for construction. In the main sanctuary building, a new fire panel was installed along with new fire sensors. A new sound board was installed for the sanctuary. Doors for the sanctuary by the choir room hallway and kitchen hallway have been discussed, but were tabled due to cost. Signs will be placed by the sanctuary doors to the bathrooms, to remind people to close gently during services. While the Nomads were here, they helped with several projects: 1. Placed more patio stones to extend the gathering area between the sanctuary and the Sunday school wing. 2. Helped repair a water line leak in that same area. 3. Helped to repair a shed at the parsonage. 4. Helped to move and secure a semi-trailer used for construction projects from Umatilla to our church property. Also cleaned and organized the trailer as well. 5. Worked on closing in the barbecue building by the tabernacle. 6. Framed a mural on the wall in the Bright Beginnings hallway. Roofs were repaired on the Tabernacle and the Bethel Chapel. The Bright Beginnings had the playground remulched. Ronnie has been fixing many issues with the church, including replacing lights, ballasts, and at careteam@crumc.com. If you have an emergency after hours, please call (352) and someone will assist you. Disciple s Path Small Group We offer classes with various times and locations. For more information, please contact the front office at (352) Celebrate Recovery Join us every Friday night for Celebrate Recovery. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $3 per plate. Worship follows shortly after at 7 p.m. We then, split out into groups and end the evening with dessert and fellowship. All are welcome to attend. Exciting News a new bible study group will begin on July 1, The study is "Women of the Old Testament." We will meet some fascinating people as we journey through ancient times. Culture, styles and

A golf cart was donated to the church, which helps the custodians to work at different areas of the facilities more effectively. It also could possibly be used for services in the parking lot to help with handicapped or elderly members. New batteries were purchased for it. The entrance doors and steeple will be painted soon. There are still ongoing efforts to close in the Tabernacle, once we get past the obstacles for permits with Citrus County. languages change but people are the same let's see how we can improve our lives by learning from theirs. Everyone is welcome. on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. in the Northrup Room (16) New AC thermostats have been installed in the sanctuary, that are electronically controlled by a computer program in the office. This will be more energy efficient and help save money on our electric bill. It does not include the choir room or the kitchen. The former prayer room in sanctuary building is now an infant nursery. This makes it more convenient to parents during services. Repairs need to be done to the parsonage. Some of that work has been completed or is underway. Repair to the outdoor lights on the cross in the Memorial Garden is being investigated. Proper outdoor lights need to be purchased with the help of Mr. Palhof, who constructed the cross. Money has been donated to purchase video equipment for the sanctuary, so we can record and stream our services, but another $3000 is still needed. With this capability, we will be able to put videos of the sermons on our website, so that we can access the sermons from anywhere. As you can see, your trustees are working hard to keep our church facilities maintained and safe for our members, and to improve the worship experience, so that we can continue to be God s servants and spread His word. The trustees will resume meeting in August. Respectfully submitted by Nancy Hammond, Secretary Help is needed at the Connection Point and Welcome Table. Also Greeters and Ushers are also needed if you are interested call the front office (352) or at officestaff@crumc.com ATTENTION ALL Becky Worthington Is asking for help to sit with Ethel Winn during the summer months when so many are away.
