Citrus Ave. Crystal River, FL (352) Dear Church, E Note from Pastor I just finished the Celebration of Life Service for Jackie Wilcox. It was a great time of remembrance and celebration of all that Jackie meant to her family and to this church, but most importantly, to God. Remember Ronnie and his family in your prayers this week. Thank you, Father, for Jackie and for her witness as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Thank you, Father, for giving Ronnie and Jackie 65 years of marriage and for allowing her to be a part of this faith community family we call Crystal River UMC. This past weekend we talked about step two: Earnestly believe that God exists, that You matter to him, and that he has the power to help you recover. Step two is called the step of Hope. 2 use the power that God gives us through the Holy Spirit, and we do not believe that we matter to God, because God is more an idea than a personal being that cares about each one of us on a personal basis. I would say that, until you can come to terms with the existence of God, then you are going to struggle with living life in peace. When we come to know God and know that we matter to Him, then we can live in His presence and power. Try it; it works. Jesus is truly the answer to all your challenges in life. This week we will continue in our sermon series: Finding Freedom In Christ. We will look at what it means to Let Go and Let God. I hope you will join me as we continue our spiritual journey in growing both spiritually and mentally as followers of Jesus. Sunday, we will also be letting go of some young people who have been a large part of our church family. They are taking the next step on their personal journeys. Here is a list of our graduating seniors. Please pray for them as we will honor them in worship this weekend. If you can remember those days, you know how exciting and fearful they can be. Keep these young men and women in your hearts and prayers and thank them for being a part of the CRUMC family. I look forward to worshipping with you this weekend as we enter into God s presence, through word, music and prayer. Invite a friend as we seek ways to give God our hurts, habits and hang ups. 3 E- Giving Note THE WORST CEOs OF 2013 I would like to share a BBC report with you on the worst CEOs of last year. These are the top five, counting down to the worst: 5: Steve Ballmer, who is the CEO of Microsoft, began his job with tons of assets. The reason he has found his way onto this list is because those assets have remained the same throughout his tenure, even though Microsoft rakes in over $20b net profit each year. The company has had very little growth, resulting is asset stagnation. 4: Eddie Lampert, the CEO of Sears is number four because, during his time in the chair, Sears stock has gone way down. Also, they have about $7b in debt and only $600 million in cash. Lampert s leadership at Sears may result in the ruin of a 120-year-old company. 3: Thorsten Heins of Blackberry is number three because he has deliberately decided to make minimal adaptations to cater to the smartphone craze. He was quoted as saying that no drastic changed need to be made. The concept of the Blackberry is still the same. 2: Ron Johnson was fired from JC Penney after only 17 months on the job because he decided to radically change the entire relationship his 111-year old company has with customers. He did not test whether these changes would work before launching them widely, and refused to listen to the many associated risks. 1: How do you become the worst CEO of 2013? Just do what Eike Batista with OGX and OSX oil companies did, as BBC reports: destroy tens of billions in shareholder value, lead your primary investment vehicles into bankruptcy and set up your entire inter-locking set of companies as little more than a house of cards. Three strikes, you re out! By the way, Batista, who was reported by Forbes Magazine to be worth $30b, lost about 99% of that wealth in the span of These CEOs are great example of people who have been blessed with much, but were bad stewards of that blessing. When God tells Abraham that Abraham will be blessed, God says that so Abraham will be a blessing to others. You and I have been blessed by God to be a blessing to others. If you would like to make a consistent gift, go to and set up an automated gift that comes out on a regular basis. This makes for less work for you and it gives the church a stronger foundation in planning our weekly ministry expenses. Thank You!! With your help we were able to raise the funds of $2, with our Envelope Fundraiser and the Special Offerings some of you have donated to the youth missions. We could never have done this without all of you. Please PRAY for us as we get ready to go to Fruitland Park on May 25th thru May 31st to serve our LORD and SAVIOR by putting on a roof on the camp's maintenance building. The building is in the sun and is 2800 square feet. Please pray that no one gets overcome by the sun and PLEASE PRAY that NO ONE GETS HURT! Thank you again for your LOVE and SUPPORT. Marie Witte and the entire CRUMY group! Feeding the 5000 The CRUMC Food Pantry is so grateful to our members for their many donations of food and money to help support our ministry. This past month we gave out meals to about 40 Families, with the help of Volunteers like Charlie Ayers, Eddie Johnston, and Jim Rochette bringing in our products from the food bank; Ruth Maughan and James Carey helping to stock the shelves, and many different Volunteers helping on pantry day distribute to the food. We also try to supply what Mealson-Wheels needs, as well as Our Father s Table. You make drop off donations in the wooden box right by the pantry door. Gloria Ferguson Food Pantry Director Exciting News a new bible study group will begin on July 1, The study is "Women of the Old Testament." We will meet some fascinating people as we journey through ancient times. Culture, styles and languages change but people are the same let's see how we can improve our lives by learning from theirs. Everyone is welcome. On Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. in the Northrup Room (16) Celebrate Recovery Join us every Friday night for Celebrate Recovery. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $3 per plate.
