For now the winter is past.the flowers appear on the earth; the time for singing has come. (Song of Solomon 2:11-12a). Earth seems to join in the mighty chorus of praise to God who gives renewal and refreshment. In the season of Eastertide, we also lift our voices in gladness. As the Easter hymn puts it, Tis the spring of souls today, Christ hath burst his prison. We give thanks for God s grace, assured in the gift of the Holy Spirit, enflamed at Pentecost () which meets us at the end of the Great Fifty Days of Easter. Through all of life, no matter what comes, we live in the good news that nothing can separate us from the love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Report on Mission Sunday (April 21st) Books for Babies -- children & youth assembled 40 packets (includes a book, baby hat & cards) Remembering Those Before Us -- youth & adults cleaned up the cemetery and prepared the grounds for spring and summer Baby Dresses -- fabric cutters & seamstresses created many dresses Share House -- workers traveled to a home near Newburg and tore down a fence and shed Project SHARE bags/boxes of clothing/shoes/purses were sorted and donated Carlisle CARES -- Personal care items were placed in bags and delivered Sub Sandwich Fundraiser -- The profit from the sub sandwiches sale added to the Deacons ability to purchase infant formula for Project SHARE.

4 P a g e 4 In the Life of the Church BLANKET SUNDAY! Our congregation s local tradition is to remember and honor particular women in our lives on Mother s Day by purchasing blankets through Church World Service (CWS). Blankets are a real presence of shelter, warmth, and care for people in emergency need. CWS makes blankets available for only $5 each. Stop at the table in Fellowship Hall on and remember or honor women in your life with a blanket. Share the love! CIVIL WAR Carlisle was the scene of Civil War activity 150 years ago. The community is recalling those days in a series of events which will be detailed in newspaper articles in the weeks to come. Our own church will mark and remember the Civil War on June On Saturday, June 29, at 7:30 PM, learn more about the life and times of people at a Civil War Sampler. Vignettes, songs, and presentations in the sanctuary will provide some perspectives on ordinary life lived in those times. Sunday worship on June 30 will include songs, hymns and music from the era, as well as a sermon using material from the Rev. Dr. Conway P. Wing, pastor of the church at the time of the invasion. Financial contributions to help underwrite the appearance of musicians, presenters, and re-enactors can be made. Contact Richard Tritt for details or send your gift to the church, marked Civil War 150 on the memo line. MAY MEETINGS (The Adult Choir rehearses Wednesdays at 7 PM.) On Memorial Day, May 27th, come to Meeting House Springs Cemetery at 11:00 AM for a brief Service of Remembrance. (Bring a lawn chair.) ORGAN RECITAL On, at 4:00 PM, you re invited to a faculty recital presented by organist Shirley King at First Lutheran Church, E. High St. As Shirley retires from her work at Dickinson College -- and from her service as our organist at the end of June -- be sure to attend this special recital and appreciate the gift Shirley gives through her time and talent. LIVING WITH DIABETES A monthly program, Living with Diabetes, is being held the first Thursday of each month, 5-7 PM, in Fellowship Hall. The May meeting is May 2. This cooperative program of First Church and Sadler Health Center targets new diabetics. You re asked to contact Harold Kretzing, , if you plan to attend. Scott served as a deacon and was the games leader at Vacation Bible School. Our condolences are extended to the family of member Gwen Wood, who joined the Church Triumphant on March 26th. Most recently, Gwen lived at Country Meadows.

5 P a g e 5 Youth-Related VBS Again this year, First Church will partner with Second Presbyterian to hold a fun-filled Vacation Bible School (VBS) -- June 17-21; 9 AM - 12: 15 PM; at Second Presbyterian (Garland Drive). If you re age 4 thru 5th grade, it s time to head out to VBS where buckaroos learn to trust Jesus! Ride the trail through the Old Testament stories of Moses to discover Jesus unchangeable love. You ll enjoy heart racin activities like games, crafts, music, skits, Bible stories, and mighty tasty snacks! So saddle up your horses, cowgirls and cowboys, and come along on a life-saving adventure at SonWest Roundup VBS 2013! Visit this website NOW to register: Toddler Time Is there a toddler (age 2+ thru K-garten) in your family? If so, mark your calendars and plan to bring them to this summer s Toddler Time at the church. These six fun-filled sessions planned by Educator Debby Madden will introduce our little ones to church and to Jesus through music, crafts, stories and play. Children in 4th grade and above are invited to be special helpers during this event. Dates are July 23, 25, 30; August 1, 6 and 8 (Tues and Thurs). More details will follow! KRISLUND SPRING WORK DAY -- SATURDAY, MAY 4TH Each spring, people come to lend a hand getting the camp ready for summer campers. There are a number of projects for both skilled and unskilled workers, kitchen cooks and many others. The 2013 work day includes a special treat! After working on projects from 8 AM to 1 PM, lunch will be supplied by the camp staff, followed by a Birthday Party to celebrate Krislund s 50th year of ministry. If you go, take work gloves and weather-appropriate outerwear. Reservations are not necessary but, if you know that you are going, please notify the camp office by calling , or by ing info@krislund.org. KRISLUND SOUL FEAST Everybody loves to eat, right? Maybe that s why there is so much talk about food in the Bible. This year over 600 campers will have fun exploring five food-based Biblical metaphors (fish, salt, lamb, bread, and fruit) and learn what they teach us about Jesus Christ and God s calling in our lives. Through faith-deepening devotions, high-energy worship, extreme games and old-fashioned camp fun, our young people will grow closer to Jesus and each other. But first, THEY NEED YOUR HELP! Krislund has sent out a list of items they need in support of this year s camping season. First Church has chosen the following items to be responsible for: 1 - Sharpie-style markers (multi-color) needed 2 - small stuffed toy lambs needed 3 - pool noodles (commercial grade); the camp will purchase -- $150 donation needed. If you can contribute, place items #1 and #2 in the boxes provided in Fellowship Hall. To make a monetary donation toward #3, simply place a check in the offering plate made to the church, with Krislund Soul Feast on the memo line. CAMPERS/PARENTS: It s time to go to to check out camps & dates, and to register.
