Arriving in Boston by sea was a great way to introduce visiting friends and relatives to the city. On the journey, you could see the Boston Harbor Islands with their varied histories and romantic tales ( some true, some imagined.) I looked forward to the graceful sailboats, and the first view of the familiar city landmarks including the Zakim bridge, spanning the sky almost like a great sail itself. But unmistakable and sometimes rather intimidating were the huge freighters and tankers moving slowly but deliberately to their destinations. Postmaster: Time sensitive information. Quincy Point Congregational Church has supported Seafarer s friend for many decades. In their own words : Serving the Maritime Community Through Friendship, Faith & Hospitality since Their mission is to extend the ministry of the churches to meet the unmet spiritual, social and practical needs of sea farers in the New England Maritime Community. Those who work on the ships are at sea for many long months at a time, missing their families and homes and faith communities. They often come from warm climates and are taken by surprise with the cold of Northern ports. Exhortations to extend hospitality to sojourners away from home is a biblical theme. Part of the ministry of Seafarer s friend is to share needed items with those who labor on the freighters and tankers. There is a list inside this newsletter in the Missions Committee article. But when the group from QPCC visits this summer, let s have them arrive with an impressive number of SWEATSHIRTS FOR SEAFARER S. Reaching out to those in need (whether we know them or not) has always been a blessed hallmark of our church. I d love to have a dedication of SWEATSHIRTS FOR SEAFARER S on June 19 th so our summer visitors to Seafarer s Center can bring along a BLESSING. God Bless, Ann G. Suzedell, Pastor

3 Worship in May Building & Grounds Sunday, May 1, a.m. Reminder Dear Reverend Ann, I want to thank you so much for the wonderful tribute you paid me in the last issue of To the Point. I have enjoyed every one of the 33 years I have been Treasurer, but now the time has come. There were many ups and downs, but mainly ups. We were left a house in a will, the proceeds paid for upgrades in the sanctuary. We had steeple work done; a new organ installed and paid for in 3 years; and the elevator installed to help our parishioners in and out of the Church. You and I have said for years that when one of us retired, then the other one would. When June 19th rolls around I hope you will enjoy your retirement as much as I hope I will! Recently on several occasions the Sanctuary lights were found on in the morning. This is not just after a Sunday service but during the week. The person that turns the lights on or opens the doors is responsible for ensuring that they are shut off and closed. A lot of the lights in the church are automatically controlled but not all. Also, B & G would like to remind everyone who holds a meeting or gathering in the church that they are responsible for the people attending the meeting. Any friends accompanying people who are attending a meeting should be present in the meeting with that person and not let to remain in other areas of the church. Youth group final practice for Youth Sunday. Missions Greetings to all from the Mission and Social Justice Committee. Things have been a little quiet for our committee since Soup Sunday, but we have been planning and looking forward to the fall. We collected $ for the Flint Michigan fund and we are pleased because this was a fund we did not expect in our budget and planning. So once again the people of QPCC stepped up to the plate and gave generously. A reminder that we are collecting toiletries, hats, gloves and sweaters or sweatshirts that are new or gently used to be brought to Seafarers Friends. This organization provides counseling, chaplaincy and other services to seaman who work on large ships from all over the world and bring products to our shores. For the most part they remain on the ships for months and cannot go on the land because they do not have passports for all the ports they enter. We have already received some items and will be collecting every Sunday through June, then make plans for a trip to the offices of Seaman s Friend. If you are interested in going to the Seafarer s Friends sometime in July, please talk to a member of the committee. We will be meeting in May to plan some programs for the fall. By then we should have a new member. We will be losing Eileen Donaldson, whose terms will be up. She will be going off the committee for one year. We will miss her as she has been a faithful member of the committee and has taken notes and written the minutes of each meeting. Thank you all again for your generosity. Carol Johnston, Chair.
