3 In Loving Memory of our friend Linda Williams Last month our FBC family suffered a devastating loss with the passing of this amazing woman. In every area of life that she walked, she left Christ s imprint. To know Linda, was to know Christ. Plain and simple. In her classroom, in her family, in her Sunday School Class, at VBS, and to her many friends, she embodied a true witness for Christ. Honestly, I feel that it was her mission to make sure that everyone knew of His great love for them. In doing this, she also ensured that those she had any type of contact with, knew that she loved them as well. Her legacy will long live on through the lives of all those that she openly and boldly shared Him with. Her sweet smile, her gift of gab, (this girl could talk), and her expressions of grace and mercy will never be forgotten. As we grieve let s remember to take comfort in knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that Linda is home at rest in our Heavenly Father s presence. That s a joyous vision and one that I hold on to dearly. Together as her FBC family, we need to take a lesson from Linda s amazing life, and always, always remember to share Him wherever and whenever. I am certain that Linda heard Him exclaim, Well done good and faithful servant. If I could rewrite any verse from the Bible I would rewrite Acts 13:36 so that it would read like this, For Linda...served the purpose of God in her own generation. I will truly miss my friend, however, I am so thankful that I will be in the presence of her amazing smile again one day. Please continue to keep the Williams family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks - Judy 3
4 I have decided to use this space to provide a little bit of the backstory of how the Jesus, Y ou Are sermon series of June came to be. Relatively early I sat with Bill and brainstormed about six different sermon series routes I could pursue. I then put the notes to the side and forgot where I had put them. Bill let me know that we may try to do something special on Father s Day, but he would get back to me later. Around May, I had to get back to sermon preparation because, if possible, I wanted the sermon titles to be in the June edition of THE SOURCE. I was going to brainstorm anew what route to go and figured I must have lost my notes because God needed me to go a different direction. So, I pulled out the sheet Bill gave me with the preaching schedule for 2018 to be sure not to overlap too closely with something already on the agenda for the year. It was then I realized my notes on possible sermons were on this same sheet of paper. One of those ideas was to develop a sermon series based on four names of Jesus. As I began to work on the sermon series, I decided to focus on four qualities of Jesus. These four qualities were sovereignty, kindness, empowerment, salvation. At that point, I explored about 50 names of Jesus and cut the list down to 30 names in that first go through. At this point I was thinking that four or five names of Jesus would be explored in each sermon. I did an initial estimate of how each of these names are best associated with the qualities the series would explore. Around this time, we opted not to do a special focus on Father s Day, but allow the sermon series to go uninterrupted. We ourselves had no idea that God was sovereignly timing for us to hear the message, Jesus, You are My Foundation on what would be the day Linda Williams would pass away. With the fill-ins being names of Jesus, as opposed to the action steps featured in most of our sermons, the sermon titles were changed to be proclamations regarding Jesus. The application, so to speak, is living in accord with the proclamation that each sermon title asserts. (Also, the familiar next steps would still be part of each sermon.) Jesus, You are my God - Jesus, You are my Friend Jesus, You are my Foundation - Jesus, You are my Salvation As we enter the second half of the year, many in the FBC family have been hit hard by the challenges that occurred in the second quarter (or perhaps entire first half) of the year. Even as the sermon series Unshakeable Faith and Jesus, You Are had a divine timing that has been greatly appreciated, look forward to see what God will be speaking to us in the days to come. FBC Family, do not grow weary of doing good. Continue to stand strong when things go wrong as you continue to fasten your eyes on Jesus. 9 Church Wide Study begins Sept. 9th We are taking prepaid, preorders to help offset the expense to the church. See page 4 for cost of workbooks and extras. We will be making an order after each Sunday: July 22 and August 19. For those of us on budgets, splitting up the cost into two payments will be helpful also. Be sure to stop by the Growth Group table to make your preorder and payment today Growth Groups were assigned a Sunday morning to be Campus Greeters. Several have accomplished their Mandatory (LOL) serve FBC days. The Tuesday, Women s Bible Study Group decided to make it a little EXTRA. They had fans printed up. So, not only did they make every person that attended church that day feel welcomed, they also presented them with this special gift. Way to go you sweet, over achieving, beautiful women. 9 9
10 God never intended for his followers to live the Christian life separated from the rest of the body of Christ. The church must provide an environment where people can share the real stuff of life and find support, encouragement, honesty, openness, grace, and biblical trust. The most effective way to do this is through small groups. Principle 1: Every Christian needs a spiritual family. Principle 2: Every Christian needs a laboratory for life. Principle 3: Staying in your building limits your growth. Heart to Heart Women s Ministry Upcoming Events Women s Bible Study FBC Please contact Judy Rooze for more info.
