This award is given out annually to outstanding volunteers who make a difference in the community. Jackie was nominated for the work she does organizing groups to make Pall Cloths and clothing being sent to Haiti, Africa and other 3rd world countries. This event was attended by several of our members to show their support for Jackie. Our Auxiliary held a Meet & Greet in October We served a light brunch of egg and potato casseroles, donuts, bagels, fruit and assorted beverages. From this Meet & Greet we obtained 4 new members who have become active participants at our meetings and other events. Also, in October several ladies and their spouses attended a special Mass at St. Elizabeth Seton in Orland Park said by Fr. Rick Frechette from Haiti. There was a special luncheon held in Fr. Rick s honor following Mass at which items were presented to him for the people of Haiti. Items were sundresses, burial palls and little homemade cloth dolls. In November we participated in a local craft fair/bake sale held at Rich Township Senior Center in Park Forest, Il. The profit made from this sale was donated to Rich Township Food Pantry and St. Irenaeus Food Pantry. In December we held our 4th annual Christmas Luncheon at University Golf Club in University Park. Spouses/significant others were invited to partake in this luncheon along with the auxiliary members. At this luncheon, we ran a white elephant auction, which was a great success. A fun time was had by all who attended. In January we held our 4th Annual Trivia/Pizza Night at St. Mary Church In Park Forest. This event has grown over the past four years from 24 participants to 56 participants this year. Once again we had a great time. In February we helped the KC s at their 60th Anniversary/Mardi Gras Dance. The Ladies Auxiliary provided the table decorations and one of the Ladies Auxiliary made a King Cake for the celebration. We also helped out at the annual Lenten Fish Fries that the KC s have been holding for the past 10 years. The ladies sell desserts and hold a basket raffle over the course of the 6 weeks that the fish fries are held. Linda Marron, President April, 2013 #4849 BELLARMINE LADIES AURORA The Bellarmine Ladies, is an Auxiliary to the Cardinal Bellarmine Council # We currently have 28 members. We have continued to make and distribute free Rosaries to all the second graders in the seven Catholic grade schools and Holy Angels CCD students. We hosted a reception for those in attendance at the Blue Mass (honoring our Emergency Personel) which was organized by our K C Council in September. We had a Ladies Night Out in January asking women in our parish to join us in order to provide fellowship and share information regarding our auxiliary encouraging them to join us if they like. The Knights have hosted an annual Fish Fry during Lent. The Bellarmine Ladies will provide the drinks and desserts for sale. The proceeds of these sales help us to provide donations to various charities.

2 PAGE 2 We encourage all wives to join an auxiliary in order to help promote the family aspects of the Knights of Columbus; to help support our husbands and each other in order to promote the kingdom of God. Laura Wright, President #8002 FR. MICHAEL J. MCGIVNEY LADIES AUXILIARY WINFIELD At the beginning of 2012 calendar year our ladies have participated in collecting gift cards and monetary donations during one weekend after mass services for our local St. Vincent DePaul. It was a great success and we plan to do it again this year for our annual Christmas in July collection. Also, in July and in August some our ladies assisted the Knight s with their annual Crème Puff booth at the County Fair, and our local Town Fair Pork Chop booth with sales, or by washing their aprons and equipment. During our Tabitha Night in August our ladies spent their time addressing letters asking for donations from the local business for the Knights Tootsie Roll Drive, and for our Quilts of Valor event that was held later in the year. In September Stella Howard arranged for our group to have a wonderful evening spending it with the residents from the Convalescent Center playing Bingo. Patti Marino s husband a fellow Knight Jim Marino was kind enough to call and run the numbers board. All prizes were donated by our ladies and we also assisted the residences to play their cards. In November Donna Kelley and Colleen McDonald organized our annual Quilts of Valor in which we spent Veteran s Day weekend sewing quilt tops for our Illinois wounded veterans. From the novice to the experienced, teens to adults, Knights and Ladies showed up to sew, iron, or to assemble more kits for the volunteers to sew. Thanks to donations from local quilt shops, restaurants, organizations and personal contributions; the fabric kits and lunch was provided to our volunteers. We would like to give a special thanks to Sandy Decker and the Ladies of Columbus Auxiliary in Warrenville and members from other local churches for bringing their sewing machines and spending the day with us, and Andrea Miller one of our members who picked up the restaurant donations in the pouring rain. A special treat for us was the unexpected arrival of a mother of one of the soldiers that had received a quilt from the Quilts of Valor organization who thanked us for our participation in this worthy event, and then stayed to learn how to cut material to make more kits for future events. In 2013 we plan to use our February Tabitha Night to working on our scrapbook thanks to all of the wonderful photos taken by Ellen Tarmichael our Auxiliary photographer throughout the year. In March we hosted St. John s Easter Vigil celebration and we will hold a Diaper Drive on April 13th. Donations of adult to infant diapers and wipes will be divided between the local pantries, which will be chaired by Julia Fitzgerald, Ellen Tarmichael and Patti Marino. Currently we are collecting chances on our full/queen size Patriotic Heart Quilt which was donated and lovingly made by one of our members Julia Fitzgerald to benefit our sponsored Seminarians. The cost of $5 a chance or 5 for $20 will be held during the Diaper Drive on April 13th. Thanks to Danise Burke for all of her help with this event and the Knights and many others for their full support and donations. We look forward to seeing everyone at the State Convention held in May. Rachel Sedlacek, President #12801 MARY S MILLENIUM LADIES AUXILIARY STREAMWOOD We had our best Vocations Raffle sales yet! We have adopted a Seminarian, Matthew Bozousky, who has inspired us to greater participation in Eucharistic Adoration and to increase our support of all vocations with letters of support and encouragement. We give thanks to the Knights for their excellent Pancake Breakfast on the first Sunday of Advent at which time we organized a Christmas Shopping Mall. The Knights sold nuts and candies as well as the raffle of a custom, handmade 6 room dollhouse. The CRUSH Youth ministry sold Ornaments. The Ladies had a White Elephant sales table of gently used Christmas Décor, jewelry gifts, a Raffle and a Bake Sale. The Boy Scouts sold candies and popcorn as well as serving beverages and helped with clean up. We were gratified by the very festive atmosphere, the friendly conversations, and the support shown by all parishioners. And, of course

Violet Galang transitioned from work life to a life of volunteering to her community and church. She arrives early to daily mass to help prepare the altar if needed. From mass she is off to the Mission Club, Ministers of Care, Our Lady Rosary Makers Club, or her senior groups. She financially helped to supported three young Philippine men, Ruston, Jonathan, and Dindo through seminary school until their ordination. Violet opens her home to missionaries who come to America to solicit financial aid for the poorest of the poor in their country. Violet introduced the Ladies Auxiliary to the art of rosary making. She can assemble 300 rosaries in a month. She handled 961, 700 beads to make 16,300 rosaries over a twenty year period. This is the ministry Violet accomplished since April 17, Her hand made rosaries are donated to hospitals, missionaries in the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Haiti, Kenya, and all over the United States. It is said that when you make a rosary all the prayers recited on it will come back to bless you. God must surely be delighted in the generosity of sharing her work to spread the word of the importance of reciting the rosary. Violet does not want to be a leader but she is always behind the scene supporting us. She is one of the first to show up at our meetings and the last to leave. She helps out at all the Ladies Auxiliary and Mater Christi Council activities. We are truly blessed to have Violet in our group. Marcia Codak, President LADIES AUXILARIES ATTENTION! As a reminder we (Ladies Auxiliaries) are not to use the words Knights of Columbus or the word Council, KC 3rd degree logo for any auxiliary function. The Ladies Auxiliaries are to report to the Knights of Columbus Councils their volunteer hours for service to Church, Family, Community, Council and Youth. These hours are to be turned in to the Financial Secretary of the Council. Please check with them when it is due. Make a general spreadsheet of the categories and report the group volunteer hours. We appreciate all that you can do to help our Councils. For your information any auxiliary that is interested in becoming a Supreme recognized auxiliary may check out the following groups: COLUMBIETTES, DAUGHTERS OF ISA- BELLA, OR CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF AMERICAS COLUMBIETTES: In 1939, Monsignor J. Francis McIntyre, at that time Chaplain of the New York Chapter Knights of Columbus, and who later became Cardinal McIntyre of Los Angeles, California, seeing great numbers of women coming out of a Communist rally at Madison Square Garden, conceived the idea of a ladies organization to work with the Knights of Columbus. The New York Chapter Knights of Columbus formulated a plan for such an organization. Their plan called for the establishment of Auxiliaries in each Council and to coordinate the efforts of all under the direction of one parent group. On March 2, 1929 the first Columbiettes were

5 PAGE 5 instituted in New York City. Since that memorable day, many new auxiliaries were formed and eventually State Councils and a Supreme Council were established. New members are initiated in these subordinate auxiliaries and it is only through the integrity, strength and scope of these auxiliary activities that the Columbiettes have become a recognized group of women working with the Knights of Columbus promoting the ideals of Columbianism. CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS: This group was formed in 1903 and is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. Under the patronage of the Blessed Mother, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas are united by their faith in Jesus Christ, in their devotion to the church and the Holy See. They donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness. The CDA motto is Unity and Charity. The CDA was formed over 100 years ago and today numbers 75,000 dues-paying members in 1,250 courts (local chapters) in 45 states across the country, and in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. Deeply spiritual, together they share faith, love of God and a distinctly feminine spirituality alluded to by Pope John Paul II when he spoke of the necessity of feminine genius in today s world. The program includes concerns of today s church and society as well as issues that affect the well-being of women and children. DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA: UNITY, FRIENDSHIP, & CHARITY The first circle of the Order was founded in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1897 as an auxiliary of the Rev. John Russell Council of the Knights of Columbus for the pur- pose of uniting all Catholic women in a sisterhood to achieve the following aims: To know one another better To extend our circle of friends To centralize all our resources to better help one another To be a greater force to contend with in the pursuit of good in our society The International Circle is the main governing body. Members come together in convention biennially to elect the International officers who constitute the Administration Board. The State Circles also convene every two years, for the formulation and revision of established agendum., Election of Officers and implementation of programs and projects consistent with the laws and rules of the Constitution. The Local Circles meet monthly for a combined business meeting and social gathering. Members act upon the charitable, spiritual, civic, and social programs their circle wishes to take part in or sponsor. Any questions regarding these recognized auxiliaries, contact me and I ll give you the addresses for you to contact them.
