Dear Church Family, We were overwhelmed by the expression of faith and love shared by our church family last Sunday. I want to thank the congregation and the Joint Board for the wonderful surprise gift you gave us for Pastor Appreciation Month. The $300 bonus gift was absolutely incredible. Thank you so much. Serving here has been a joyful blessing, an exciting challenge and a place of many collective moments with God. Thank you once again. Nov. 25 ~ Worship All Joint Board Members and Congregational Leaders It s not too late to register Equipping the Saints a workshop sponsored by the Spiritual Formation Ministry Team of the Eastern District. Saturday, November 10, at Schoenbrunn Moravian Church The workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends with lunch at 1 p.m. This workshop will include looking at the challenges of finding and equipping new leaders and how to prevent burnout for those who are tired of being in the same position. The cost is $10/ per person which includes materials and lunch. Checks should be made payable to the Eastern District Executive Board and are due in the church office with your completed registration form by Tuesday, November 6. Registration forms are available in the church office. Our Music Opportunities Remembering Those Who Served in a Special Way Sunday, November 11, Veteran s Day Service and Holy Communion This fall look for and prepare to receive some powerful expressions of determination, duty, discipline, and grace through the arts. Our Veteran s Day service on November 11 will have some very meaningful expressions and blessings in the sanctuary and for our veteran s. You won t want to miss this meaningful service. Each service, 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., is different in setting, voice, and presentation. However, in order for this service to meet its peak, I need help from all our veterans. If you served our nation in the military, I need you to call Karen at the office and tell her the following information: your name, the branch of the service you served, the rank you achieved, and the dates in years of your service. During the service, your name, branch, etc., will be acknowledged. So help me out! I want the 11 th to be another exceptional day to praise God and honor those who served. Pastor John Sonnenberg Station a few men gathering to sing songs of faith and everyday life. Sonnenberg Station, a 15-voice men's choral ensemble, has performed in more than 30 different venues to appreciative audiences throughout Ohio, from churches and businesses to universities and concert halls. Their repertoire features beloved classical pieces as well as contemporary tunes and everything in between, including several original arrangements written by the group's director, Tim Shue. Join us on Sunday, November 11, 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Moravian Church of Dover for a great evening of music to feed the soul. This concert is given in memory of Jack Hayman, Ken Walter, Richard Jones, and John Carruthers, faithful members of First Moravian s Chancel Choir. The concert is supported by the Music Endowment Fund and is free. 5 6

4 Our Christian Education Opportunities Our Mission and Outreach Opportunities Items for Haiti We have a bright yellow box in the Social Hall for your donations, now through Thanksgiving. Items needed include: Band-Aids, Cold medicine, Anti-diarrheal medicine, Gauze pads, Small scissors, Tweezers, Small bottles of hydrogen peroxide, Alcohol pads, Surgical gloves, Safety pins, Ibuprofen (any pain killer, fever reducer) *for kids and adults; Children s melt away Tylenol, cold and cough, Motrin; Neosporin, Tums, Antihistamine (itch cream), Vitamins *for kids and adults; Vaginal antifungal creams, Water purification tablets, and Thermometers. Youth Activities Sun., Nov. 11 ~ You ve Been Raked! 12-2 p.m. We will meet in the Social Hall, split into groups and surprise church members with a raked yard. Bring your rakes and friends!!! PARENTS are NEEDED as drivers. We ll have a discussion and maybe order pizza back at the church. Wed., Nov. 21 ~ Frosty Reunion Extravaganza 7:00 p.m. The Youth group will pay for each Frosty. Please bring money for other food. This event is open to all current and former Youth Group members and leaders! Please meet at Wendy s on the Boulevard. Christmas Pageant Our Pageant this year is called O Come Emmanuel! Sign-up sheets for parts will be on the Social Hall bulletin board. All ages K-12 are welcome to be a part of our pageant. Practice will be Saturday, Dec. 15, from p.m. The pageant will be performed Sunday, Dec. 16, at the 10:30 service. Children can still be in the pageant if they can t make it to the practice. Just let Kim Yackey know what part they d like to be. Sugar Cake Baking Tues., Nov. 13 and Wed., Nov. 14 Price $4.00 each Sugar Cakes are sold by the Moravian Women to help continue their mission of making a difference in the lives of God s people here and abroad. The Moravian Women Advisory Board is asking for your help in increasing our sales. Talk to your neighbors, friends, relatives, and co-workers. This year free delivery will once again be available for orders of 4 cakes or more and the order is placed prior to Tuesday s baking. Place your order by calling Susan Paden, , and to offer help with mixing and baking, call Shirley Thompson, Christmas is just around the corner Get your shopping done early by purchasing Moravian Advent & Christmas Stars Great Gifts throughout the Year! The white plastic electric Advent stars are available in the church office in two sizes (21-inch ~ $30; and 12-inch ~ $25). The 12-inch star is designed to be used as a tree topper or hanging star. These stars make great gifts year round: showers, birthdays, weddings, etc. Complete instructions for assembly are included. 7 8

5 Helping Hand Sunday by Cheryl Stephens On Sunday, November 18, you are invited to bring non-perishable food items with you to church and/or to place a special offering in the offering plate for Helping Hands. Please use your special Helping Hand offering envelope with the border and dated November 18, 2018, (which is located in front of the November 18 envelope in your packet), or any other envelope and mark it for Helping Hand. Please prayerfully consider giving generously in the provided envelopes. Most of our funds have been distributed to congregation members. There will be a table at the front of the sanctuary for your nonperishable food donations. These items will be used to help replenish our food pantry and make up food baskets now and throughout the year. Your special offering will add to the Helping Hand Fund which is used to purchase perishable foods and give many types of assistance to those in need. Please bring only these suggested non-perishable items. (Those in bold print are needed more than the others.) Cereal, oatmeal, crackers, pancake mix, syrup Jelly, mustard, ketchup, peanut butter Rice, noodles, plain macaroni, Mac & cheese, pasta sauce, spaghetti Soup: Tomato, Mushroom, Cream of Chicken, Celery, Chicken Noodle Canned fruits, vegetables, potatoes Chicken, Tuna, or Hamburger Helper meals, dried beef, or canned chicken, Spam, tuna, Instant mashed potatoes, complete meals Cake/Muffin mixes, frosting, jello, pudding Detergent: dish and laundry Toiletries: bath soap Paper towels, bath tissue, Kleenex Please check expiration dates on all foods. Please do not bring flour or sugar. If you know of anyone, especially the elderly or a shut-in, in need of a food basket or other assistance, please notify the church office and our committee will use these donations to help meet those needs. A Letter of Thanks! Dear Dover First Moravian Church, It has been such great joy to have three new paintings adorn the walls of the Schoenbrunn Village church. Through your kindness, the church has been restored to its original mission. The paintings by Johann Valentine Haidt are such an emotional and strong religious teaching tool of Christ s birth, death and resurrection to all of our visitors. In Haidt s memoir in 1767, he concluded with the words, I hardly need to mention that I have painted, because almost all the congregations have some of my work, which the dear Savior has also let be a blessing to many a heart. The kinship and kindness of the Dover First Moravian Church has now continued Haidt s lifelong work. Thank you all for your thoughtfulness and generosity. You help us keep the Schoenbrunn history and mission alive. May your work and outreach continue to be an irreplaceable blessing.
