One Call Now ~ Dave Trustdorf is sponsoring our One Call Now this week. Tuesday, November 20, at Buehler s Restaurant, 7:00 8:15 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J. K. Rowling Harry has no idea how famous he is. That s because he s being raised by his miserable aunt and uncle who are terrified Harry will learn that he s really a wizard, just as his parents were. But everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend an infamous school for wizards, and he begins to discover some clues about his illustrious birthright. From the surprising way he is greeted by a lovable giant, to the unique curriculum and colorful faculty at his unusual school, Harry finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed, and closer to his own noble destiny. We will discuss the Christian theology in the book. A great read! Get it anywhere books are sold! (Inexpensive copies on Amazon, or borrow from the library!) Tuesday, December 18, at Buehler s Restaurant, 7:00 8:15 Park Benches by Bishop Kay Ward Bishop Kay Ward s fourth offering is filled with reflective, funny and inspiring stories that can be used as daily reflections, or just a good story to share! The Psalms lead us through Kay s reflections, reminding us how the Bible writers also shared their personal reflections on life. As Kay notes: These are events in my life that make me smile or laugh out loud. Sometimes they make me tear up or make me stop and take notice. Each story is a blessing because it reminds me that God lurks in the ordinary moments when I begin to pay attention. Don t miss any of Bishop Kay s books. 6 Our Christian Education Opportunities Equipping the Saints will be held at Schoenbrunn Moravian Church on Saturday, November 10, from 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. Frequently we hear that congregations struggle with filling leadership roles within the church for board members, Sunday School teachers, etc. To address this concern, this workshop will re-examine the role and invitation of lay leadership as we explore the historical and biblical basis for the call to serve Christ and Christ s Church. Participants will receive tools for inviting lay servants; guidelines for assisting laity in discerning God s call; material for conducting a spiritual gifts inventory; a handbook to assist laity in exploring the call to serve; a Pastor s companion handbook to support laity in discerning a call to serve; sample ministry descriptions for various roles within the church; guidelines for nominating committees and/or those who extend the invitation to serve; and suggestions for supporting and affirming lay leaders. Additional details Fee for the workshop is $10/per person which includes materials and lunch. This workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends with lunch at 1:00 p.m. Registration forms are available in the church office. Completed forms are due in the church office by Monday, October 29. The Eastern District Spiritual Formation Ministry Team is sponsoring this Workshop for all Pastors, Joint Board Members and Church Leaders. 6 Fall Retreat (Grade 6 through Age 21) November 2-4 Location: Camp Lutherhaven - Albion, IN Program Leader: TBA Registration forms ~ Social Hall Bulletin Board, due in the church office Today, October 14 Late Registrations ~ Roommate requests cannot be guaranteed.
