Stacy and Jeffrey Cottingham, October 21 Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates In preparation for our Annual Meeting a nominating committee is seeking candidates to fill 3 seats on the Vestry and two people to serve as St. Alban s alternate delegates for the Diocesan Convention 2016, delegates for Please consider becoming a candidate for Vestry. Vestry terms are for 3 years, with the option to run for a second term. The Vestry meets once a month for two hours. In lieu of a January meeting the Vestry meets in retreat in January (Friday evening and Saturday). The work is shared. St. Alban s is a parish that seeks to have a Vestry that reflects all of our stakeholders in age and length of membership. This means that our church leadership is varied, which adds richness to our parish life. Please consider placing your name in nomination or accepting the nomination for any of these posts. It will be a positive experience for you and for all of us. Please talk to any Vestry member if you have questions about what parish leadership entails, and talk to Judy Gracey, Richard Hunter, or Dee Rinehart if you would like to run for office. Pictures for the Church Directory Pictures for the new Directory will be taken starting Sunday, October 18 and run for the following 3 Sundays. Please sign up for your appointment time on the sheets on the breezeway table. There is also a sign up sheet for Volunteers to help coordinate. Smile!

2 Saint Alban s Fall Auction Auction Meeting This Sunday! It s Not Too Late To Help! Please join us after the 10:30 service this Sunday for a Fall Auction Planning meeting in the Choir Room. Thank you to all of you who have started to turn in your donations. You have two more Sundays (10/11 and 10/18) to turn in the donation forms. In order to publish the auction catalog by the end of October, all donations need to be turned in by October 18 th. All donations are welcome: gift certificates, services, parties, Artisan Market and live auction items. Please remember the Auction will not be accepting any donations of alcoholic drinks or reimbursing for alcohol purchases. Donations of soft drinks/water and monetary contributions towards beverages are welcome. This year we will continue to use a lottery system to win a spot for a party. You are still responsible for paying the full price of your slot. Tickets are $.25 per chance/person. The more tickets you turn in for a party, the more chances to win. NEW this year! Artisan Market: with items that are unique and handcrafted. Some items will be a set price and some others will be open for silent bids. Cake Bar: one price ($5) but you get to choose: one BIG slice of one cake or three smaller slices of the cakes of your choice. Pre-order your tickets: You will be able to preorder your tickets the Sunday before the Auction. More information will follow. Cash Bar: You can buy tickets for alcoholic beverages (beer and wine only) or you can pay cash at the bar (exact change only $2). The price is the same but the convenience is up to you.

3 Consider Hosting a Party for the Auction! It s Fun! We all know that our annual Fall Auction is a wonderful fundraiser, but as we have been reminded in weekly announcements, it s also about FUN! We know you ll have plenty of fun the night of the auction, but we want the fun to continue the whole year through. How do we do that? With parties, of course! These get-togethers give us a chance to enjoy one another s company in a completely different environment. Please consider donating a party this year to help us meet our goal of 20 spread throughout the year. The party you host doesn t have to be elaborate. It should be something you can enjoy along with your guests. If cooking isn t your thing, food doesn t have to be the main attraction. You can design the party for as many An Evening in Eire Irish Boiled Dinner people as your home (or whatever place you have the party) can comfortably accommodate. At past auctions, parties included homemade ice cream on the porch; dinners, including several of different ethnic origins Asian, French, Greek, Irish, German, and Spanish; a dock party with sundaes and s mores; a mystery dinner party; wine tasting; board games and snacks; a ladies afternoon tea; tapas. If you re still searching for ideas, how about a Super Bowl or Kentucky Derby party? a classic summer picnic? a fall apple bobbing or applesauce making party? a Saturday brunch? build-your-own burger cookout? 4 The Play s the Thing! An Allen Civil War Remembrance On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Allen Historical Society will present an original play titled Allen: A Village "Trapped" in the Civil War, written by some of its members, about the Civil War period in Allen. The play features historically accurate events which occurred in Allen and the surrounding area and characters based on actual residents of the village. It will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the war. The play will be held at 7pm in Allen Asbury Methodist Church on Collins Wharf Road. Following the play, a variety of desserts made from Civil War recipes will be served. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance by ing Sharon Walsh at sharon.walsh68@gmail.com or calling ER&D Offerings Requested Episcopal Relief and Development is responding to the flooding in South Carolina as well as the refugee crisis in Europe. Alcoholic Beverages will be directly bought and provided by St. Alban s. Any donations will be returned to donor.
