Lots of comings and goings with camps, conventions, vacations, planning sessions, youth activities, VBS, and general catching up and staying with current events. Destinations are chosen-- Disney World, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Canada, Wisconsin, New England, east coast, west coast, overseas, and parts unknown. Plans are made. We plan for earthly trips with appropriate clothes, money, high expectations, meds we might need, emergency situations we might encounter and the list is exhausting and goes on continually. In real life and real time, every day for Christians, we are in the planning mode also as we are reminded of our final and eternal destination of heaven as we note especially when lives have been lost in accidents, from illness, violence, or natural causes. At a recent unexpected funeral, the singing of I m But a Stranger Here and Nearer My God to Thee certainly brought back the reality of our eternal destination of heaven to be in the constant presence of our Heavenly Father! Prepare for that? Sure we do, realizing that through God s grace we will be in heaven for eternity. The joy we have here exists in prayer, worship, being in His Word, sharing the Gospel, confessing our sins, receiving the sacraments, praising and thanking God and loving and helping our fellow man remind us God s free gift of salvation. These things are simply a foretaste of heaven through God s grace that we get to savor here and now. WOW. Enjoying God s magnificent creation of the Canadian Rockies was spectacularly amazing, yet absolutely nothing in comparison with being in the very presence of our Creator and Savior in heaven for eternity. You may have noticed some music being used that is not in our hymnal. If you listen to Christian radio on KHCB FM or KSBJ 89.3, you might have recognized some of the tunes. They are chosen to be fitting for the day s theme/message and are meant to enhance our worship time. Thanks to those participating in our special music this summer! Music for the choir season is being chosen as we speak, 2 and there is room in our choir for those who would like to be a part of this wonderful, spiritfilled group! So, think about carving out some time on Wednesday evenings beginning the latter part of August, and joining us! Chat with Judy Kutach or any choir member You will be welcomed! July has 5 Sundays, and we will focus on We Have Strength and Hope in His Faithfulness, Boast in Weakness? Standing By the Plumb Line, Christ Is Our Cornerstone, and A Sign For Us As Well. On July 29 th, the kiddos will sing My Lighthouse, as a VBS kick-off!

3 Page 3 V o lu m e 1, I s s ue 1 1 M U S I C A L N OT E S F R O M J U DY Our STEALTH WORKERS this month are Sandy Newman and Darlene Brown who prepare and serve our coffee and goodies every Sunday before Bible Class so beautifully! Thanks, Ladies! It makes it so easy to invite our visitors that is what we are doing, isn t it?? One of the outstanding events of large Lutheran gatherings, like the LCMS Texas District Convention held last m onth in the Dallas area, is the worship time and in particular the singing of 300 or more folks in praise to God. A thrilling experience booming voices (lots of pastors) and great acoustics! Ask Pastor or Mark Lamprecht who were our delegates. Lutheran Women in Mission (LW ML) w ill have that sam e opportunity July 5-8 in Waco at their Texas District Convention where the Mite Goals and Recipients will be voted on in session and voices will be raised in praise and worship (although a bit of a higher pitch). We enjoy that same thrill on a smaller scale, at Living Savior when our voices are raised together in congregational readings and hymns. Blessings abound--praise the Lord! Bear in mind that our Lord s patience means salvation. 2 Peter 3:15 3

4 Page 4 T D L C M S C The 61st Convention of the Texas District of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was held on June 14-16, 2018, at the Westin Dallas Fort Worth Airport, Irving Texas. The theme, Firmly Standing Boldly Sending, is based on I Corinthians 15:1-6. Pastor Bailes and Mark Lamprecht attended as voting delegates for the three-day triennial event. It was marked by ecclesiastical camaraderie and had a positive tone throughout. Because there is such overall unity in our District, there were no major controversies brought before the delegates. The biggest change for the District was the election of a new District President, the Rev. Michael Newman, who has most recently served as the Mission and Ministry Facilitator of Area C. He is following the footsteps of the Rev. Ken Hennings, who has served the maximum of four terms over the last 12 years. A highlight of the convention was the closing worship service. 6 Page 6 LWML Texas District 40th Biennial Convention Annet Riley, Judy Kutach and Helga Schuller are attending the LWML Texas District Convention in Waco from July 5 to July 8. Helga, President of our Mary-Martha Guild will be voting on proposed Mission Grants for to be distributed from Mite donations. The total requested $ from which 87% will remain in Texas and 13% outside of Texas.The theme is"filled to Overflow" and there are many opportunities for serving. There are off-site Servant Events such as: working in Thrift Stores, Painting residents rooms at a womens shelter, visting Nursing Homes etc. Enrichment sessions and Human Care activities are offered also. We will be busy the whole time. We are grateful for the Thrivent members who are donating towards our expenses. July Mission Grant Biblical Orthodox Lutheran Mission ($93,000) The mission of the Biblical Orthodox Lutheran Mission (BOLM) is a ministry primarily to Arabic-speaking peoples and Muslims in particular. They bring the Good News of salvation through their teaching and by the power of the Holy Spirit. BOLM s outreach impacts lives in the United States and in the Middle East. They educate and disciple new believers and, as the Lord wills, commission them as missionaries. They need funds to support their internet seminary for two years; acquire Bibles in various languages for distribution, acquire and distribute copies of Luther s Small Catechism in Arabic, and for expenses for phone and internet. School Supplies Please don t forget to purchase school supplies this and next month while they are on sale. We will use these supplies to build school kits for Lutheran World Relief 6

M u s i c V o l u n t e e r s Altus Hospice is seeking volunteers who can sing and/or play music (keyboard or guitar) for the terminally ill. There is something special about music and how it soothes the soul. Families of the terminally ill are amazed at the reaction of patients when they hear music. It seems as though their focus is shifted from all their pain to the sweet sounds of music. Come join us in making a difference in these patients lives. Training will be provided and is not difficult. The initial preparations for both setting up and taking down does not require more than 15 minutes on average.
