1 Risen Savior Lutheran Church 2018 Key Events August 5 Vicar Install Congregation Breakfast August 19 Voter s Assembly Congregation Potluck August 20 Risen Savior Academy begins August 23 Open House for Trail Life & American Heritage Girls (scouting for ages 5-17) Church Pastor Weinkauf pastor@risensaviorlcms.org Vicar Antonetti carl.wendorff@ ctsfw.edu years of Risen Savior Pastor I truly believe, as I am familiar with hundreds of Lutheran churches in the area and nationally, the Lord has given me (us) the finest congregation and ministry setting. Indeed, I am humbled to serve in this place and am in awe of how myself, us all, are so undeserving of it all from our Lord. Why us? Why here? Where else are things like this taking place? That is not to say there are not many fine LCMS congregations and of course you all have to deal with a sinful pastor and sinful members. I look around at the picnic and think no one could have imagined this 10 years ago. Also how so many people here live closer to other LCMS congregations and there are a good amount of people who have visited many other places before finding a home here. It s hard to realize we have only been at this location for 6½ years. I am so thankful for all of you. Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your Presentation name give Booklet glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Psalm 115 Seminary President Rev. Dr. Rast here with us in celebration of our 10 th anniversary. Continued praises to God for these 10 years - More people worshipping here now, than in 110 years of Lutherans in this area - People coming from 14 different communities to find a home -that is all about Christ - A sacred place of splendor where heaven and earth come together as in no other - Continued growth every year in His Word and in more people coming here - A Cemetery to honor our loved ones as their body awaits resurrection - Five years in the Vicarage Program as outreach to support and prepare future pastors - Solid leadership in the congregation, exceptional harmony among the members - Solid finances, stewardship of His gifts, every year in the black as expenses increase - Completion of two major building programs - Volunteers in so many places and times and areas to the glory of God - A facility that is unmatched to serve our needs now and the future growth in the area - Support of Wittenberg House to help confessional, historical Lutheranism to return - Numerous community projects to serve our neighbor and new ones taking place now - Cover story in the Lutheran Witness, highlighted in 2018 Synod President s Report - Feature story in KC Star and Seminary magazine Light of the Word - Having visits by the Synod President, Seminary President, Synod Vice-Pres., District Pres., Six Seminary professors, and numerous, numerous visitors who all speak impressive words about this place and what God is doing here; and with that having a commendable reputation throughout our Synod and areas we live. [OVER]

2 As I mentioned at a fantastic church picnic, the Lord has given us all far greater than we deserve. From the July 20, 2010 church groundbreaking sermon: It s been an incredible 2 years; be amazed and humbled at what the Lord will bring in the next 3 years. Behold, what is to be built here is a place of heaven on earth, a place for the sick, the hurting, the lost, a place for sinners to bask in the forgiving presence of the Lord, where the Church in heaven with angels, archangels and all the company of saints who have gone before you, gather together with us in this place, worshipping, rejoicing in the feast of our Lord. May God grant that generations may come here to receive God s Word and His gifts. That was 8 years ago. I do not know who is not amazed and humbled at what the Lord will bring May God keep us all in His forgiveness and grace as we live day-by-day and that now and future generations have this place of God s truth. A place that desires to believe, teach, confess, and practice as the Church always has -all about Christ. 10 th Anniversary Picnic An amazing day! Great turnout. The musical trio was outstanding, filling Augsburg Hall with country and folk music. We needed to add another table for all the food. Absolutely wonderful to have Eisleben Hall (gym) and Wittenberg Hall (old hall) filled with children and youth running around in play. What blessings our Lord has given us in this place to celebrate! Thanks be to God. Special thanks to: the Board of Fellowship, Debbie Swearingen head; Steve Woelk, Jerry Long and the other guy on mandala and bass cello; and Ronnie Miller for preparing the meats.

6 Goodbye, Farewell & Amen Vicar Wendorff The last episode of the long-running TV series called MASH is titled, Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. Aired in 1983 it holds to this day the record for being the most watched episode ever to be seen on TV. The series follows the doctors and nurses of Army MASH unit 4077 and blends comedy and drama on the frontlines of the Korean War. It happens to be one of my favorite shows. And so as my time on vicarage draws to an end, I would like to say to all of you, Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. VBS Pic The salutation that we say when departing from friends, family, and coworkers every day originally meant much more than simply, see you later. The phrase comes from the late 14th century as a contraction of God be with ye. Without knowing it, most of the English-speaking world invokes God when heading out the door. But this is a term most fitting for use among brothers and sisters in Christ. When we say goodbye, it s not a permanent departure, but an acknowledgement that the same Christ who came in the flesh to be our Immanuel, God being with us, is the same Christ who will gather all the saints to Himself in the life of the world to come. Among Christians, there is no permanent goodbye only a temporary parting until we reunite with each other at the feast of the Lamb in His Kingdom. We also say, farewell, abbreviated from fare thee well. Journey is the meaning of the word, fare, so in saying this we hope that your journey is well. I can say that my journey here to Kansas has gone very well; this last year has been an extraordinary journey in my preparations for the Pastoral Office. I would like to say thank you to all of your generous hospitality in making Theresa and I feel like we belong here and thank you for helping us to celebrate the birth and Baptism of our son, August. We are blown away by the hard work and dedication that all of you give on behalf of the ministry of the Gospel here at Risen Savior. We are especially thankful for Pastor Weinkauf, a faithful shepherd of souls and a pastoral example that I hope to emulate when I receive a Call. So, we say God be with ye, and fare thee well on your journey with Christ through this earthly vale of tears to the heavenly courts of the New Jerusalem. And we say Amen that is, yes, yes, it shall be so. We say Amen with one heart (concordia) to the truth that we are justified solely by the merit of Christ s Atonement which we receive by grace through faith. We say Amen to the saving doctrine of the Word which we believe and which constitutes this Communion of the Saints. We say Amen to the presence of Christ among us in His Word and Sacraments. We thank our Heavenly Father for each and every one of you, and with thanksgiving for the gift you have been to us, we depart from Risen Savior with Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. In Christ, Vicar, Theresa, and August Wendorff
