3 Page 3 V o lu m e 1, I s s ue 3 M U S I C N OT E S Everyone seems to finally have a bit more of a spring in their steps with the hint of cooler weather. This is the time of year when it seems it takes 2-3 changes of clothes in a day. Light jackets in the a.m., and shedding them shortly thereafter, proceeding to shorts in the afternoon, then reversing the process for an evening walk that doesn't feel like you are in a sauna anymore! Looking like we will need silk fall leaves this year! The recognition and celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation were definitely noticeable throughout the Christian church this year, as well it should be. Prayerfully, it was and is a time of renewal and thanksgiving for our church to that which is so soundly and wonderfully based on scripture! Special thanks to our choir and brass for their extra efforts! This time of the church year is always a bit somber, yet filled with so much hope as we turn our thoughts to celebrating ALL SAINTS DAY on November 5th. This is when we have a Commemoration of the Faithful Departed this past year through the tolling of the bell chime and being reminded we are BLESSED TO BELONG. "WATCH OUT" on Sunday the 12th, reminds us of the parable of the ten virgins. We had a lively discussion about this at our worship meeting, as this is probably not as memorable of a parable as some others. One of the take-aways from this scripture is to always have fresh batteries in your flashlightsl (a modern version) You can take it from there! Fill in the blanks: WASTE NOT,. On the 19th of November, we are going to be talking about Waste Not, Need More. This is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Hmm. THANKSGIVING EVE SERVICE will be at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22nd, with Holy Communion. God has Led You is the thought provoking message that is followed by our Pie Fellowship timel This is a favorite event as we bring a pie and celebrate our blessings together as brothers and sisters in Christ over pie and coffee. How sweet it is! The LAST SUNDAY OF THE CHURCH YEAR, Nov 26th,we will sing together with the choir from the Order of Matins, the Venite' and the Te Deum Laudamus. Now, don't get nervous, we sing it in English, and many of you are familiar with it. Venite' translates loosely into O Come, Let us Sing and is from Psalm 95:t-7. The Te Deum begins with We Praise You, O God. This is a beautiful liturgy setting. God will be glorified as we lift our voices in praise to Him with an ancient chanting format! Death Has Been Defeated is the message title. Note: The First Sunday in Advent is on December 3rd, it is not the Sunday after Thanksgiving this year. Choir is preparing now for Thanksgiving, All Saints Day, Advent, and Christmas. It is not too late for you to join usl Choir practices in Nov: the 1st 8th, 16th,& 29th at 7 p.m. Some things we do not really think about but are important and meaningful We all remember the recent traumas we have witnessed and experienced with the hurricanes, the terrible flooding, and the horrible shooting in Las Vegas. A few weeks ago at a Friday night High School Football Game in Fort Worth, TX, during the half time band performance, It Is Well With My Soul was played by the band on the field in the stadium with amazing trumpets. Gives one chill bumps, doesn t it? Do we live in a great state, or what? This info was relayed to me by my daughter who just moved to TX from VA. Her meaningful statement was, Mom, this would never have happened in VA (close to D.C.) where they moved from recently. Kudos to the band director, and let us give thanks for where we live! From the fullness of God s grace we have all received one blessing after another.
