3 The Messenger Page 3 JUNE 2016 Council Notes Call Process Update: Step 1: Celebrate Pastor Dale Dusman s ministry at St Mark s!; Sunday July 31, 2016 will be a St Mark s Feast day (transferred, of course!) with High Mass, and all associated pomp & hoopla, as only St Mark s can do it. Please help spread save the date information to those outside of our congregation who might like to attend. This committee has already begun its work, with Jane Parker serving as council liaison. Step 2: Ministry Site Profile: a committee will guide the effort, which will include opportunities for full congregation discernment & input. The document we produce by this effort will represent our hopes for the future of St Marks. Step 3: Call Committee: will use the Ministry Site Profile to inform their search, with the help of the Synod to identify, interview, and visit potential new pastors for St Mark s. They will narrow the selection to present appropriate candidates for council/congregation approval. Obviously this comittee will serve a position of great responsibility as they work to fulfill our hopes for the future of St Marks. The Council is in communication with the Bishops office and appreciate their guidance as we establish the timeline for our efforts. Other Important information: June 19 th Congregation Meeting: Congregation will vote for two new Council members, and two alternates. Survey effort follow-up; Thank you to all who have participated in our survey outreach. When we began that effort last September we didn t realize how much our priorities would shift! Please know that we have not forgotten, and all responses have been reviewed. We will provide a more thorough follow-up at a later date. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! Please set aside the last weekend of July for the Party and sendoff of Pastor Dusman. There will be a gala party on Friday, July 29 and a traditional service, followed by lunch in fellowship hall on Sunday, July 31, Pastor Dusman's last day. More details to follow. 4 The Messenger Page 4 JUNE 2016 Paide Folk Dancers Will Be Visiting Maryland This Summer A group of youthful Estonian folkdancers from Paide will be visiting their town s sister city of Westminster, Maryland from June 27 to July 5. The traveling ensemble is actually made up of two folkdance groups: Südameke and Kerrutajad. There will be a total of 26 performers aged 14 to 19 years. The group members will also sing and play instruments. First performance: When? Wednesday, June 29, 6:30 p.m. Where? Carroll Community College Ampitheather 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, Maryland. Please note that the venue is outdoors, so attendees should bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on. The performance is free, but donations will be accepted and welcome. Second performance: When? Monday, July 4, 4:30-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-6:30 p.m. Where? Old Fashioned 4 th of July Independence Day Celebration Carroll County Farm Museum 500 South Center Street, Westminster, Maryland. The Estonian folk dancers will perform during the day along with other groups. There is an admission charge to enter the Farm Museum grounds. After the performance, everyone can stay to watch traditional Independence Day fireworks. St. Mark s gave Generously to ELCA Hunger in The final tally is in. the ELCA Hunger Appeal broke all previous hunger giving records in FY2015, taking in $21.95 million. Within our Synod, St. Mark s ranked 27 th in total giving out of more than 150 congregations. But most importantly, we were fourth in individual giving-$ The Synod average was $4.21 per individual. We are planning to meet on Sunday, 12 June at 12:30 PM. If you are already an assisting minister or you would like to learn how to do the duties of an A.M., please show up on Sunday, 12 June. Woodland, Pomeroy, Brad Schlegel, and Pastor Dusman will be representing St. Mark s. Your prayers are requested as the synod conducts its business. A Reminder: Please note that Thursday, 30 June, will be the last of our Thursday night celebrations of Holy Eucahrist and dinner until September.
