1 20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the A p r i l, EASTER VICTORY! tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. She turned and said to him in Aramaic, [b] Rabboni! (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord and that he had said these things to her. 2 Page 2 V o lu m e 1, I s s ue 8 M U S I C A L N OT E S F R O M J U DY So, it seems that Spring has just been teasing us for several weeks now, but that didn t stop the ladies from giving the sanctuary a good Spring Cleaning. THANKS to Dawn Dunagan, Judy Hodge, Annet Riley, Velma Powell, and Judy Kutach for getting after it and refreshing our worship area with lots of Murphy s Soap and willing hands! To all who went the extra mile in preparations for our Lenten, Holy Week and Easter services, we give THANKS to God for each of you! There are many, many folks (young and old) who diligently work behind the scenes to give Glory to God through our worship times together, and we thank you! (You cannot imagine the number of s that are needed just for acolytes, right,lee?) The exciting thing to remember is that Easter is such a wonderful reminder that we have HOPE and that every day is Resurrection Day! The past is over and done We have HOPE in our personal lives, our relationships, our struggles, our country, in our projects, in our world, in our vocations, and in our daily faith walks and testimonies. And all of this because of the love God has for us in Jesus! And this is not just for the here and now, but for all eternity. Praise Him! It helps us to rise up and give thanks even during the tough times. It also makes it easier to share God s love with others, as many times we walk in the same shoes as others and we have HOPE! During the month of April we will celebrate five of the seven Sundays of Easter, w ith one of them being Good Shepherd Sunday, always a favorite. During this time, the altar paraments will remain white, the Sunday School children, the congregation, and the choir will be singing, the bells will be ringing, and God s Word will be preached and taught! Isn t worshiping our God awesome???! It is a given that some hymns are easier to sing than others, and that others might not be familiar to all, but the words are rich and scriptural, and we encourage the reading of the words and thinking about them if you choose not to sing. Some are prayers, some are instructional and teaching, and many are praises with wonderful messages right out of the Bible. Give it a try! Just to let you know about outside music events, the Montgomery County Choral Society will present their Spring Concert Bach to Bop on Friday, April 6 th at 1 st Methodist Church, Conroe at 7:30 p.m. Contact Paul/ or Claudia Downing re: tickets. (They sing in this community choir.) Then, on Saturday, April 7 th, the Texas Master Chorale presents An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein at 7:30 p.m. at Foundry United Methodist Church, 8350 Jones Rd, Houston. Contact Kathy Lamprecht who sings in this choir. (Different location due to Harvey damage). You might think that our choir is winding down, but not so. Coming up in the Church Year are Ascension Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, and Trinity Sunday! Come, and check it out. Please let Judy Kutach know so music will be ready for you! Wed., 4/11 at 7:00 is next practice. (none on 4/4). Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! 4 Page 4 N e w s letter : April, 2018 April Mites Grant - NOLA 4H: Hearts for the Hungry, Homeless, and Hurting - Christian Families United for Progress ($100,000) Hurricane Katrina was the largest residential disaster in United States history. Twelve years later there is no more federal aid, and many inner-city communities are still hurting. New Orleans has the third highest homeless rate in the nation with 1,700 homeless persons every night, much of this due to the hurricane and loss of homes. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out. Many residents lost friends and family and still suffer from loneliness and depression. Six inner-city LCMS churches, their pastors, leaders, and members have come together to serve Christ by serving their neighbors and providing food and shelter. The NOLA 4H churches work closely with other organizations to support various outreach ministries such as food banks, clothing, toiletries, Bibles, prayer books, counseling, and clinics. Funds will go towards these ministries and equipping each of the fellowship halls in the six churches to serve more people. School Kits - Fourteen boxes, 140 school kits, are ready to be shipped to Lutheran World Relief. Thanks for your support of this project. Special thanks go to Pat Ferguson and Charlene Beesley who requested and received Thrivent seed money. With these grants we were able to purchase notebooks and canvas bags. 4

5 Page 5 N e w s letter : April, 2018 New Horizon Zone Spring Workshop The ladies of the Mary-Martha Society, LWML are hosting the New Horizon Zone Spring Workshop Saturday, April 7th beginning at 8.30 am. Frances Molitor, Texas District Financial Officer will be our guest speaker. The Workshop project decided on was to collect gently used handbags and fill them with personal care items such as: toothpaste toothbrush deodorant soap shampoo conditioner small tissue packs comb other necessities The filled handbags will be taken to the Women's Center for abused women. Small travel items can be purchased at Walmart. This is a good time to clean out your closets and donate your used purse for a worthwhile cause. All ladies are invited to attend. A group of us made 106 Palm Crosses fo r Palm Sunday: Lorna Lipsey, Nan Dodd, Velma Powell, Shirley Wiese, Judy Hodge and myself. Those who wanted to help but could not be there were Rhoda Buckner (making 20 at her work) and Julie Krenz (making 20 at home), and I made 20 more at home. That made a total of 166 and we only had 8 crosses left after late service.! We were all in prayer for Rhoda, because of her car accident the night before - we laughed and shared wonderful fellowship, and focused on the suffering of Jesus Christ for ME, and YOU, for ALL of us. And, we talked about the new movie, The Apostle. God Bless these ladies, what a great time we had. I really appreciated all the help these ladies gave to making these crosses. Dawn Dunagan 6

We would like to compile a list of as many people as possible who are willing to make an occaisional meal as the need arises. The more that sign up, the eaiser it will be for everyone.
