As always this is a busy time around Chapin Baptist. VBS, mission trips, youth camps, children s camps and a lot more. I pray you realize how blessed we are as a people. We can still worship in freedom. We serve an awesome God. We live in one of the greatest countries in the world. Yes, we have our problems, but there is no other place that I would want to live. Please never stop praising Him for who He is and what He does. Please never pass up an opportunity to thank any man or woman who has or is serving our country in the armed services. They lay it on the line for us and we are where we are because of them. I was reminded this past week, of how often we fail to celebrate all God is doing in our midst and through this church. I have asked Brother Rick to list some of those God blessings here so you can take a few moments to thank God for His faithfulness. What is God doing in 2012 at Chapin Baptist Church? Since January 2, 2012: $203, has been given for missions (local, state, country and international) and $179, has already been spent. In addition to the monetary gifts over $90,000 in supplies has been donated and shipped for the different mission projects. There has been $32, for support of children and student camps. Our VBS raised 3,090 pounds of food for We Care and one of our Small Groups raised 1,015 pounds of food for We Care in support of school kids during the summer along with all the monthly donations. We Care still has great needs to make it through the summer. Mission trips have either been carried out or are in the works for Atlanta, Nova Scotia, Cuba, Honduras, Brazil, Alabama and Zimbabwe. Local missions are being carried out daily in our community through the outreach of many of our members from youth to the Legends of our church. Every day at home and around the world lives are being changed by the efforts of the members of Chapin Baptist Church under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. God is blessing us so much and we so often miss it and don t celebrate what He is doing right in our midst. I know things seem to be difficult for many and our church is struggling with its budget, but have you noticed? Everywhere we are missionally focused God is pouring out His blessings. Every need is being met with abundance when the purpose is to reach the lost and grow the Kingdom. Shouldn t this tell us something? CONTINUED ON PAGE 2... 2 We need to be good stewards of everything God blesses us with. But our focus has to be on growing the Kingdom and meeting the needs of our community if we are to accomplish what God has called us to do as a church for the Kingdom. And, we need to trust Him to supply the resources to meet those needs. When we do our part, God is faithful and will always do His part. We need to remember to celebrate all God is doing and His blessings on us. We will make it through the tough times if we trust in Him and praise Him for what He is already doing. Celebrate His Goodness! Pastors Rob and Rick Starting Point Are you new to Chapin Baptist? Just started coming? Have you recently joined the church, but want to know what is next? Are you interested in joining the Chapin Baptist family? For answers to these types of questions, you are encouraged to attend Starting Point. Starting Point will be offered the last two Sundays (July 22 and July 29) of every month at 11:00 am in Room 102. You can sign up on the back of your Connection Card or by contacting Debbie in the church office ( ). Pastor Search Team Update As reported at the business meeting, we have closed our time for accepting resumes. We are now busy working on our review of nearly 270 resumes. It is a difficult task to review this many resumes and reach an agreement on the few to pursue in earnest. We definitely need your constant prayer. If you still have your prayer journal, now would be a great time to go back through it. Those 40 days of prayer got us started with guidance from the Holy Spirit and we need that for the next 40 days. Thanks in advance for your prayers and support. Game Day for Adults of All Ages The Legends host a Game Day on the first Tuesday of every month at 2:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Upcoming days are August 7 and September 4. Adults of all ages are welcome to attend. It is a great time of laughter for all!! Church Facilities Security Alarms - Tables and Chairs If you, or a committee on which you are a member, is having a meeting on the church campus after business hours, PLEASE NOTIFY THE CHURCH OFFICE. Security alarms are being set when the church office closes at 5:00 pm and the Child Development Center closes at 6:30 pm. Also, from time to time we allow church members to borrow tables and chairs. If you wish to borrow either of these, please reserve them through the church office. If someone has followed the proper procedures we want to make sure what they have reserved is available. If you have borrowed chairs and have not returned them, please do so as soon as possible. 3 Legends Monthly Fellowship Luncheon Wednesday, July 25 11:30 am - Fellowship Hall The Legends (Senior Adults) will meet on Wednesday, July 25 for a time of great food and fellowship. This meeting will be a covered dish luncheon. Our guest speaker will be JR Fennell from the Lexington County Museum. He will be speaking about the exhibits at this historical museum located in downtown Lexington. All Senior Adults and guests are invited!! Please sign up at the Information Table or contact the church office. The deadline to sign up is July 22. Fall Celebration at Ridgecrest Now is the time to make plans to go with the Senior Adults to Ridgecrest for the Fall Celebration Tuesday, October 16 - Friday, October 19. Rooms are reserved and a deposit has been made. The cost for a double room is $177 per person or a single room for $220. Please pick up a reservation form at the Ministry Table on Sunday morning. Fill out the form completely and make your payment by July 31. Financial Update If you missed our recent business meeting you may not know of a couple of things that have taken place. We have refinanced our debt and lowered our interest rate over 2%, which decreased our monthly payment by over $1600. We have also been able to complete the sale of the bus to St. Luke s Lutheran Church in Prosperity. We were able to sell it at a fair price of $75,000. The money that the Legends raised for the bus has been returned to them and the remaining funds have been put into our reserves. The Legends and the Stewardship Committee have agreed to allot some of the funds needed to complete the bathrooms and serving area in the Hewitt Arbor. This work should begin very soon. We need to give God the praise for how He is blessing us and guiding us to be good stewards of the resources He provides. Rick Jones, Church Administrator Congratulations to... Matt and Billie Rogers on the birth of their daughter, Andrea Faith born June 14, weighing in at 7 lbs. She is 20 inches tall. 6 Missional Matters Engage and Connect: His Heart, His Hands, His Voice Baptist Global Response A lot of you are probably not aware of Baptist Global Response (BGR) and what it does. BGR is an outgrowth of the Baptist World Hunger Fund which was promoted every September. In recent years there has been a major refocusing on needs around the world due to acute problems such as tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes. Chronic problems such as poverty, AIDS and hunger have also been growing. BGR was created to help Baptists become more aware and effective in responding to global needs. BGR coordinates the global resources of Baptists in response to such needs. Baptist Global Response is a Southern Baptist Relief and Development organization, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization. BGR was involved in 14 projects around the world and already has 23 projects in You can make donations to BGR for specific projects such as ceramic water filters in central Asia, famine relief in central Africa, a Baptist hospital renovation in Zimbabwe, agricultural project in Honduras, and on and on. There are also volunteer opportunities. The best way to get familiar with BGR and its work is to go to their web site www. baptistglobalresponse.com and explore for yourself. You can sign-up for electronic news reports. You will be amazed and touched by what s going on around the world. Perhaps there s an opportunity for you. Mission Team Prayer Support July is a huge missions month for Chapin Baptist Church. Four teams of about 45 people from our church will be on mission. Prayer support from our church is critical. If you ve been on mission trip you know what it means to have people back home praying for you. If it is really going to be a church mission (and a lot of people have raised money and supplies), then we need to be in prayer. God uses these prayers! You can be in prayer for these teams almost every day of the month. Builders for Christ (Phil Campbell, Alabama) July 7-14 Honduras July Brazil July20-30 Nova Scotia-Cape Breton July 27-Aug.11 Blankets Needed for Zimbabwe The Zimbabwe team recently learned that young mothers are wrapping their newborn infants in newspaper as they have no other way to keep them warm. If you have any gently used or new receiving blankets or onesies for babies, please bring them to church on Sunday. There is a box in the foyer of the Worship Center for donations. You can also make a monetary donation for the purchase of new blankets. Deadline for donations is September 2. Camille G. Graham Correctional Institution Picnic September 8, 2012 Volunteer to go to the women s prison to fellowship with the inmates, help with witnessing, games, serve meals, participate in the worship service etc. This annual event sponsored by Lexington Baptist Association is a great local missions opportunity. A number of churches are involved. Department of Corrections forms and an orientation session are required. If you are interested in being part of the visitation, there is a Sign-up Sheet in the Information Center or you can call the church office. You will be contacted with the necessary forms and information. There will also be an opportunity to bring food for the picnic to a designated church on the morning of September 8. More information will be provided in August on food preparation instructions.
