Len Turner will be with us September 2-4, leading us in what I pray will become real revival. I realize this is Labor Day weekend and probably not the best time to schedule a series of meetings. However, this is the only date available and I am confident that Len is God s man to lead this. I am going to use this newsletter article to share some thoughts concerning revival. It is important to remember that revival must begin with us individually before it happens corporately. Gypsy Smith, the great evangelist, stood on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee and drew a circle around his feet. He then told the audience that when everything was right with God inside that circle, revival could begin. One of the most often used revival text is 2 Chronicles 7:14: if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. There is a key word in this text: then. The writer sets forth four conditions before God hears, forgives and heals. My challenge to all of us is to use this scriptural pattern in preparation for God to move in real revival in our individual lives. 1. Humility - The root meaning of the word is to bend the knees. Our Father resists pride, but rejoices in humility. Humility is not an emotion, it is a decision. It is an inward change brought about by an act of your will. 2. Prayer - It is prayer that ushers in revival and prayer that will keep us in revival. Leonard Ravenhill wrote in his book Sodom Had No Bible. The church is dying on its feet because it is not living on its knees. Study Luke 18:9-14 for a great example of prayer. 3. Devotion - Seek my face we are to pray until we know we have met God, time is not the element. The question we must ask and answer is: is there a longing in my heart for the Lord s presence? The words of Hosea 10;12 ring true, It is time to seek the Lord, until He comes and rains righteousness upon us. 4. Repent - There are two areas of wickedness that we may not be aware of that are critical: a. Unforgiveness, more than half of God s people are living in wickedness because they are harboring unforgiveness. b. Disobedience, note James 4:17, To him that knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is a sin. The time for genuine repentance is now. If we put off repentance another day, we will have a day more to repent it. True repentance is never too late, but late repentance is seldom true. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2... 2 Then God will hear from heaven, will forgive our sins and heal our land (our lives, our church, our families). Please note what God says in verses 15 and 16: Now My eyes shall be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. Folks the time is now, the hour is late, and we need to repent before the time is gone. Expecting to Meet Him in Revival! Pastor Search Team Update The PST continues to request your prayers as we enter a special time in our search for the man God has chosen to lead Chapin Baptist to a new time of glory for His Kingdom. We have often remembered the task that Samuel had in anointing the new king of Israel. God eliminated all of Israel and sent Samuel to Jesse s family. We feel like we have eliminated all of Israel and are looking at Jesse s family. We have a group that is about twice the size of Jesse s family. We are praying that God would lead us to the correct man, just as he did Samuel, as we listen to sermons and look at web pages and prepare to start talking with individuals. If you still have your prayer journal, now would be a great time to pray back through it during the next 40 days. Thanks for your prayers and support. 6 Missional Matters Engage and Connect: His Heart, His Hands, His Voice Jesus is Lord in Honduras Yes, Jesus is Lord in Honduras. Thank you Chapin Baptist family for your prayers, support and love. We really felt covered as you faithfully prayed for us. Sixteen of us from South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee, left for Comayagua, Honduras. We partnered with Terry and Arlene DuPont of Open Eyes Ministries. God is really using this couple to touch many with the gospel. Our team was able to conduct three medical clinics, seeing over 1,100 people. It was a blessing to be a part of this team and watching them work long and tirelessly as they ministered comfort and hope to the people. We were privileged to see 236 people profess their faith in Jesus Christ and preach in five wonderful churches. God is really moving in power and revival in Honduras and all across Central America. We are already looking forward to returning to Honduras in Pray about going with us next year. I can promise you will praise the Lord that you did. Please continue to pray for the DuPonts and those who trusted Christ. Again thank you and God bless you. September October 8-21 November Missions Calendar Zimbabwe Mission State Fair Ministry Connie Maxwell Food (LBA) Brazil Mission Trip When God is the focal point of our efforts, the results are astounding. They are, in fact, miraculous. 24 representatives of CBC selflessly dedicated themselves to the Heart of God for Brazil from the 20th 30th of July. Along with us, were an even greater number of Brazilian Christians and even a handful of Dutch Christians. This was our second trip to the village of Rio Vermelho. How did God bless these efforts? Let s testify to just some of the miracles: Well over 100 Brazilians decided to turn their lives over to Christ An estimated 1,000 + people assembled in the streets of Rio Vermelho to hear the Gospel An average of 250 family members per day attended a Bible Club to encounter the Truth A new church structure was completed in the neighborhood we were called to minister to The first evening that this structure was available to the community, around 40 people gave their lives to Christ Scores of people whose lives were changed by the Gospel last year returned to take part in the mission again this year They brought their family and friends Homes all over the community were visited and blessed with prayer and gifts The powers of darkness that enslave these people had holes poked in them by the Light of the Gospel Multi-national partnerships that were established last year flourished Many new partnerships were established Revival broke out in the host church in Belo Horizonte during our closing worship time there. OK, do you get the picture? In spite of all the efforts of the enemy to thwart this movement of the Gospel, God did what God does. He showed up and showed out! Join us in worship at 11 AM on August the 19th to see and hear more. Thank you to all of you who did your part in prayer, financing and equipping this life-changing mission especially, the CBC Missions Team. I wonder what would happen if we treated our own community with the same degree of investment?
