Sunday s, April 7 May 12 Do you ever doubt God? Almost a silly question. Of course you do. Everyone doubts God from time to time. Sometimes it seems like God might not even be present at all. Thomas gets the title of Doubting Thomas, but David has to be one of the greatest doubters of all. David was a Warrior, a Rockstar, and a King, but yet in his humanity his weaknesses were magnified. How did God use David even though he was flawed? Throughout the Old Testament there were three major offices that God used to teach, lead, shepherd, guide, and govern His people - the prophet, the priest, and the king. The only person in the Old Testament that occupies all three roles is David because he was a prefigure of the greater David that was to come which is Jesus of Nazareth. There are so many different sides to David s life. He was a shepherd, a poet, a musician, a warrior, a worshipper, a husband, a father, a king, a seducer, a murderer, and an outlaw. His is a story of a flawed man who loved God intensely, failed God miserably, found God graciously, and was restored by God lovingly. This example reveals how all of us can attain greatness for God in spite of failures and setbacks. Beginning April 7 we begin a brand new series called, I Am David, and in this series we ll look at one of the greatest heroes of history -- and we might just discover that God leveraged King David s humanity rather than his heroism to lead him towards a Godly life. 6 Missional Matters Engage and Connect: His Heart, His Hands, His Voice Special Needs Youth Turkey Hunt Saturday, March 30, was a special day for a group kids with special needs. This report is from Ed Lynch, one of several Chapin Baptist volunteers who work with the Freedom and Hope Foundation, in Prosperity, South Carolina. What a great day!!! Freedom and Hope Foundation s Special Needs Youth Turkey Hunt was a tremendous success. Chapin Baptist Church was the lead church, but so many others make this wonderful ministry happen. Thanks to all - I can t begin to name them all. One turkey was harvested with many sightings by most kids and for a short time today, a group of special kids experienced what God has provided --- a wonderful world to enjoy and to be blessed by so many for being a part of this event. Terry Cotney is the main founder of the organization and Terry s hard work really is bearing fruit. Freedom and Hope will continue to serve our Wounded Warriors and special needs kids with upcoming events. The lodge that has been recently built, and is yet to be fully finished, was the gathering place for the event. CAN YOU GET OVER HOW GREAT THE LODGE LOOKS??????? There is still a lot of work to do. * Information based on a 2010 report Faith Promise Report Faith Promise envelopes were distributed during our recent Missions Global Impact Celebration Sunday. At the time, our church was engaged in a lot of activity and the intent of the Faith Promise may not have been clearly understood by all. Faith Promise is an annual effort that replaces the seasonal cooperative offerings for international, North American, state and World Hunger missions, and to supplement Chapin Baptist mission activities. Faith Promise pledges and ongoing contributions give the Missions Committee a basis for planning the level of activities that can be funded for the coming year. To date, the church office has received 45 envelopes totaling $21,375 in support of the church s combined mission s budget - as compared to last year s promise of $42,000 by 90+ individuals. (Another $9,799 has been pledged by individuals towards their personal mission trip expenses.) It s not too late to turn in a Whatever It Takes envelope. If you haven t already participated in the Faith Promise effort, would you please consider pledging your commitment to supplement the commitment of the 45 families/individuals? Without your additional support, the church s overall mission s effort will result in severe cut backs for our missionaries and mission teams. Pick up a Whatever It Takes envelope at the Information Table or the church office and join in on the effort. Thanks for your support. Calling All Ladies We will have a sewing day for the Zimbabwe Mission Project on Saturday, April 13 at 9:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. You don t have to be able to sew to be helpful -- there is plenty that anyone can do. Come be a part of a wonderful day of fellowship and love -- and the gift of giving of yourself. Lunch will be provided. Zimbabwe Fundraiser Luncheon Sunday, April 7 in the Fellowship Hall Join us on Sunday, April 7 for a Roast Beef Dinner with all the trimmings beginning at 10:45 am in the Fellowship Hall. All donations will go to the Zimbabwe Mission Project Fund.
