Rest in Peace After a long struggle with heart disease, our friend and Brother Knight Jose Lopez passed away on Saturday, May 27th, with his wife, Marilyn, by his side. He was 64 years old. Jose has been a member of our Council the past 3 years, and has served as Chancellor the past 2 years. Everyone who knew Jose would certainly echo Bill Lussier s sentiment, God Bless his beloved immortal soul. A true friend, Brother Knight and dear, sweet man. Also, sadly, Jane Collins, spouse of Brother Dan Collins, passed away on Tuesday, May 30. Please keep these individuals in your prayers... 1

4 Recent Awardees... These recent awardees all have at least one thing in common (besides their demonstrated desire to serve): they are all relatively recent new members of our Council who wasted no time in becoming involved. For example, Jack Seaman contacted us and helped with our Tootsie Roll Drive even before he had moved here and was added to our roll. Who does that? (Ans: Jack Seaman does.) Receiving Awards from Grand Knight, John Guerrero: Jack Seaman (above) - Knight of the Month for March; Juan Pablo and wife, Bernadita (right) - Family of the Month for March; Tino Saucedo, his daughters and wife Veronica (below) - Family of the Month for April. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? - Micah 6:8 4

6 Mark those Calendars: Clearly, our most important event for the next few months will be the Harvest Dinner & Dance on September 9. Last year s terrific success (despite the initial weather delay) has encouraged us to raise the bar on this year s event. Because of the earlier date, we will be able to use the outdoors for seating and we hope to sell about 400 tickets compared to last year s 250. We also have the added incentive that 100% of the net proceeds will go to the Church remodel Capital Campaign, which is clearly our parish s most important project for the next few years. One area where we hope to raise notable funds will be from the Raffle. Tickets went on sale Saturday, May 13, and we will be widely distributing tickets for sale in the coming weeks. Prizes include: RT Airline ticket to the Philippines (selected months, worth $600), 55" Color TV ($500 value), Ninja Vita Mix Blender ($330 value), Firestone tires ($250 toward), and Les Schwab Brake work ($250 toward). You need not be present to win. Tickets are $2 each, packets of 10 for $20. We have 3000 tickets available for sale so we will clearly need a lot of Knights and their families to help sell them! See GK John Guerrero, FS Bill Dewey, or Treasurer Ron Wilde for your tickets. The Harvest Dinner & Dance on September 9 tickets will be $20 per person and go on sale in mid June. This will take a major effort to succeed, so please remember: many hands make small work - pitch in and enjoy the fellowship. June Special Feature: RECRUITMENTS When a Council does well in recruiting and makes their quota for the year, they receive a Star Council Award. We received our first in fraternal year , and then we received the Award for ten years in a row, from , including a Double Star Council Award for Yet we haven t won the Award since... but this year we are on track to once more receive this important recognition! The Award requires a 7% growth in membership, for our Council that meant a net gain of 7 members, and thus far this fraternal year we ve brought in 6. Our collective THANKS to those who were able to recruit new members this year! New members, of course, are the life blood of a healthy fraternal & service organization such as ours. Recruiting others to join is not as easy for some as for others - yet it is something we should all keep in mind and strive to help with. First and foremost, we serve the recruiting effort by the example we set for others and particularly by displaying your involvement by wearing our vests. We help the recruiting effort when we invite others to join us for Knight events, the monthly parish dinner being the most obvious. But there is another step you should also take for people you think might make a good fit with our Council: tell them what we are about, ask them to think about joining, and give them a flyer (following two pages, designed by Bill Lussier), and a Prospect Card to fill out and give back to you. Then an Officer from the Council can take it from there by contacting them and giving them more information. Postcard-size Prospect Cards are available in the Church Lobby area and look similar to this: I wish to become a member of the Knights of Columbus. I desire some information regarding membership in the Knights of Columbus. I am a former member interested in rejoining the Knights of Columbus. Name: Street Address: City: Phone: Knights of Columbus THE MAN WHO STANDS WITH US NEVER STANDS ALONE. State or Province: Parish: Zip: Did You Know? Councils have distributed more than $1.5 billion and over 691 million volunteer hours to various charitable causes over the past decade. Over the past six years, through the partnership with the Global Wheelchair Mission, have given the gift of mobility to nearly 50,000 people. 7 Ever wonder what our Knights of Columbus are talking about 01 when June 2017 they refer to Degrees of the Order? Many people have, so here s a description of the four main reasons they do what they do - EMBLEM OF THE ORDER EMBLEM OF THE FOURTH (PATRIOTIC) DEGREE Admission/ 1st Degree: Charity Our Catholic faith teaches us to Love thy neighbor as thyself. Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day. Formation/ 2nd Degree: Unity None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that together we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together we support one another. That doesn t mean that we always agree or that there is never a difference of opinion. It does mean that as a Knight of Columbus you can count on the support and encouragement of your brother Knights as you work to make life better in your parish and community. Knighthood/ 3rd Degree Fraternity Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died often prematurely. The Order s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do the good works of individual Knights, who gave more than 73.5 million service hours in 2015, illustrating how Catholics serve each other in fraternity and mercy. Patriotic/ 4th Degree: Patriotism Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens. Interested? Chat with a Knight today. Ask for more information. 7
8 Knights of Columbus Holy Trinity Council Holy Trinity Fourth Degree Assembly 3097 The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal benefit society of Catholic men and their families. The purpose of the Order is to provide service to the Church on a local level, the broader community and around the world. They do this by supporting benevolent causes, community functions and church activities (did you know that the Color Corps of the local Fourth Degree Assembly of the Order is the customary escort for bishops and their superiors at liturgical functions?). You ll find Knights preparing and serving our monthly 5 o clock Parish Dinner on the second Saturday of he month after leading the rosary at 4:30 in the sanctuary. And yes they clean up afterwards. We contribute to the support of one or more seminarians, college scholarships to graduating high school seniors and facilities maintenance programs. We provide the Tootsie Roll Drive that benefits people with disabilities, Right to Life activities, Project Rachel, Coats for Kids, a Teddy Bear Drive and an Old Glory Flag Retirement Program. Members of Holy Trinity Council sit on the Parish Council, the Liturgy Commission, and many other organizations and ministries, including the priesthood and the deaconate. We re easy to recognize. We re the fellows in red vests and badges. On certain occasions Fourth Degree members wear formal attire. Like to find out more?
