1 The Sentinel May 2018 Volume 25 Issue 5 All Saint s Council #4240 Menomonee Falls, WI Dear Brother Knights, GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE: It is becoming increasingly clear that the sanctity of life is under attack. For those of us who have been watching the Alfie Even s story come to a tragic end brings great sorrow and anger to our hearts. Satan s handy work was put on display for the world to see. It is disturbing to see a government decide what quality of life is and deciding if the individual should be treated. My heart goes out to Alfie s family for all that they endured through all this. Being denied the right to take their child from the hospital to other countries that would treat him or even to just take him home. I have a hard time understanding why this was allowed to happen. There are other attacks we are seeing throughout the world. Abortion for years has been a thorn in the side of Catholic s. It s a thumb in the eye of God and a blatant disrespect of his creation. In Iceland they are aborting Babies that test positive for Down syndrome. The disturbing thing is that test is not accurate! Many healthy babies are aborted out of fear. These people do not know the joy that come from having these children in their lives. It s more work and requires more self-sacrifice, but the love that is given and returned is priceless. Brothers, I say with great urgency we NEED TO DEFEND THESE LIVES! Let us save these innocent lives. Let s defend the lives of those who are ill or dying. Let s defend the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. Each life is special. Let us show it in our works, our faith, and the way we live our lives. Let us pray for the conversion of their hearts, for Alfie s journey into heaven, and for his family recovery of him loss. I would like welcome to our council four new brother Knights. Brothers David Birler, Peter Lucas, Paul Kojis, and Jeff Schill joined our council on April 28 th. We look forward to getting to know you better and growing a deeper faith together. A big thank you to all our brother Knights and their families that helped out with the Pancake breakfast at St. Mary s on April 8 th. We had a great turnout for the event. WE donated our proceeds to help the grandchild of retiring St. Mary s teacher Mrs. Ferderbar which has a severe case of spinal bifida. Please pray for this young family and wellbeing of their son. The passion and Purpose that was supposed to be held on April 15 th has been rescheduled for May 20 th. Due to the snow storm we didn t have the turn out or really anybody there to hear about our council and what we do. We held our Tootsie Roll drive May 4 th through 6 th. A big thank you to all our brother knights that donated their time to help us with this great event. The Lucky Ducky Derby is around the corner and we need all hands on deck. This event requires the most man power to make it successful. If you can help work a shift, please let us know. Join us on Memorial Day for the parade and service afterward at the clubhouse. In June we have our officer s election. Any brother Knight who has received their third degree can run for an officer position. We are looking for a Deputy Grand Knight to help John Schleicher guide our council. We are also looking for a recorder to take minutes of our meetings. If you are interested, please let me know. Out membership meeting in June will be on June 6 th at 7:00pm with Rosary at 6:30 pm. Thanks again for all your help, support, and works bringing glory to God. Viva Cristo Rey, Mike Elmer-Grand Knight Knight of the Month for March: Mike Jansen This brother does a lot of work for our council and around the clubhouse. He is always there to help out at events, organizing events, helping others in need, and building his fellow brothers up. Thank you Mike for all you do, and thank you to your Wife for all she lets you do! Family of the Month for March: Veronikon Club 1

2 This group of Senior citizens has helped us out in a big ways for the last few years. They have helped us stuff our Easter Eggs for the Easter Egg hunt for the last few years. The last two years they have stuffed all our eggs leaving us with less work to do. I want to thank them for making our Easter Egg Hunt event a lot easier. Knight of the month for April: Jim Novak Jim is a man the truly lives his faith to the fullest. Jim likes helping out others and supporting those answering their calling to the religious life. He has helped us with many of our events prior to joining our council. He is a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary s. He also attends many ordinations of Priests and Deacons. Jim also helped step in with assisting a Family in need through Life s Connections. Jim is a man of deep faith and we are glad to have him as brother Knight. Family of the Month for April: The Schleicher Family The Schleicher family is very active at St. Mary s Parish. John and Barb are both Eucharistic Ministers. John and Tyler usher and sometimes when needed Barb helps with ushering. Barb is a go to resource for various groups at St. Mary s. They also help our council with various events from Bingo, Duck Derby, Turkey shoot, and Pancake breakfast. We are blessed to have such a giving family in our council and parish. Clubhouse Information Clubhouse hours Clubhouse opens to the public at 3pm on every Tuesday and Friday. It s a great place for family, friends, and coworkers to socialize! This year we are looking for ushers at Holy Hill Shrine and Basilica for Masses on Sunday June 20 th. We are looking for 8(a minimum of 4) ushers per Mass. Mass times are 9:30, 11:00am, and 12:00pm. Fellow brothers, their ladies, family members and friends are more than welcome to come join us and help with ushering this Mass. Red Blazers will be provided for the ushers. Try to arrive no later than 30 minutes before Mass starts.
