1 The Sentinel December 2015 Volume 22 Issue 12 All Saint s Council #4240 Menomonee Falls, WI Dear Brother Knights, GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE: We have just enjoyed a holiday of thanks with our family and dear loved ones. We all have many things we are thankful in our lives. Things we give thanks for like our freedom, family, career, homes, personal and family accomplishments, happiness, and most of all our loving God. I am especially thankful for the Knight's of Columbus and how it has brought me back to my faith, helping me grow in it, and making work towards being a better steward of our faith. Now in the season of Advent we prepare ourselves for the coming of our savior Jesus Christ. In the weeks leading up to his birth we will relearn the story Mary's life of grace, conception, and birth of Jesus. Let us not forget the true meaning of the Christmas season. Today's society has hidden away the true meaning of Christmas by putting more emphasis on consumer spending, selfishness, and greed. We all have things we want, but how bad to we really need them? This is something I constantly ask myself when looking at things I would really like to buy (especially if it's on sale or clearance). It is the season of giving, like how God gave us his only son, please give generously to those who need. In honor of Mary and putting more focus on our faith, starting this month we will be praying the rosary before each general council meeting. This is something I feel strongly about and want to get better at as an individual. This is something I believe we are missing in our council. We spend a lot of time fundraising, but not a lot of time evangelizing. Don't forget about Ushering at Holy Hill on Christmas Eve. If you would like to participate contact Mark Wagner. I also want to mention the 2016 Bowling Tournament is in Fond Du Lac. This year will be the 100th anniversary of the tournament. We will be going up the weekend of February Any Brother Knight who would like to participate, please contact me. We will also be hosting a 2nd and 3rd degree on January 23rd. If you are interested, once again, contact me. I also want to thank everyone who helped at theturkey Shoot. We had an amazing turn out and did very well! We also got some positive comments about our parade float and Chili dump. Let's keep up the good work! Also, make sure you fill out your fraternal survey to help the Knights of Columbus keep their not-for-profit status. Get those into Mike Bub as soon as possible. We have copies at the clubhouse. In closing I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Vivat Jesus, Mike Elmer- Grand Knight Knight of the Month: Jordan Radermacher Jordan just joined out council in September and has jumped in to help out. His enthusiasm and willingness to help has been awesome! Jordan was rocking it at the Turkey Shoot Selling paddles with ease. He has also volunteers to help with some of the little things around the clubhouse from setting up to cleaning. He has also stepped up and volunteered to run our Free Throw Contest. That's quite a bit in such a short time and we appreciate it. If you help Usher at Holy Hill or attend the Midnight Mass you will get an opportunity to hear Jordan sing with the Hartford choir. Thank you for all you have done! Family of the Month: Jim and Candy Endres Jim and Candy has done a lot to support our Veterans. Jim and Candy have done a lot of work with AMVET and continue to do more. Jim has done speeches and presentations at various Veteran events. Candy helps organize programs and drives for them also. Recently Jim and Candy helped lead us in a Membership drive at St. Agnes. Jim gave a fantastic pulpit at the end of masses that weekend that gained interest of parish members. Candy helped 1

2 man the table and helped hand out brochures to prospective members. I want to thank you both for all you have done and continue to do. COATS FOR KIDS The Knights of Columbus has a program through which you can order a case of winter coats for children. I talked to Linda Barns at the House Of Peace at 17th & Walnut in the City of Milwaukee, and she said House of Peace would gladly accept our donation. Linda says that the need for warm winter coats in the inner city is great, and the House of Peace would take as many as we can give. I suggest that we members buy gloves, scarf's and hats. If someone wants to buy a winter coat for a child that would be great. I am ordering an extra case (12 coat ) for sale for each. In the Clubhouse I will have a bin in the closet where you can put your donations. Let s Keep Everyone warm this winter. If there are any question contact Mike Thank You, Mike Bub, Financial Secretary, N74W13737 Appleton Ave # 302, Menomonee Falls, WI Hello Members, I need your help and it is not heavy of a task could all members me a update of your personal information. I know you say hey I been living in this place for the last 5 years, but KC's did not get any update for the last 5 years. Telephone numbers home phone did you drop it because you now have a cell phone, now this is a big problem you now have been with a certain company you provide the KC's with it but people changes their Company so often and we do not get any new numbers. This is the reason that I would like everyone to do this. The past year I have found out that 3 of our members have died, 2 members have move out of State and 5 members have moved. I really feel bad when I call about Dues and I get told that a member has died, one person ask how long do have to pay the Dues. I know everyone figures that someone will inform the Knights but at that time everyone is very busy. This is a task that I would like the member do. 6 As a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4240 you undoubtedly share our core virtues of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. Thank you for believing in the value of the Knights of Columbus and most importantly, thank you for your support. We all strive to provide quality Council s programs that foster these virtues. The clubhouse only enhances how we deliver those programs and our ability to make a difference in the community, while supporting the Church. A committee, consisting of Brother Knights Dave Glisczinski, Tim Donlin, Jim Dwyer, George Schroder, Michael Krawzcyk, and Mike Vosen were assigned to research the needs of the club house. They recently reported to the Corporation Board the cost associated with enhancing and repairing the exterior of the clubhouse. These include new windows, doors, and siding, which will ensure that our building blends into the updated community that surrounds our neighborhood. The Corporation has discussed the proposed updates but can not proceed with the exterior repairs and updates until we have a financial commitment from our membership. The exterior updates will cost approximately $ 69, We presently have secured about $ 25, into the building fund. Thanks to those who have already provided support. As you can see we need some generous benefactors to supplement the shortage. Now is the time to send in your donations so we can proceed with exterior repairs. I will be posting a rendering of those plans at the clubhouse so you can review the exciting new look of our clubhouse. Final approval needs to be secured from the Village of Menomonee Falls Architectural Board. Without the active participation of our membership these improvements cannot proceed without forcing the Corporation to seek securing a loan and creating a liability. We need your donations! Please consider what you can do to help. Rick Plumley Corporation President The Pitfalls of Replacing Coverage You know the old saying, the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence, but we all know that it rarely is. The same holds true when it comes to replacing your existing Knights of Columbus life insurance with coverage offered by another company. Perceptions are deceiving. A move to the greener grass on the other side of the fence might seem like a good one, but it can leave you with less green in your wallet in some cases, a lot less. That s why it pays to remember another old adage, Read the fine print. There are many reasons to keep your existing coverage in force, whether that coverage is with the Knights of Columbus or with another company. I ll focus on the potential pitfalls of replacing coverage here pitfalls that an agent trying to convince you that the grass actually is greener might neglect to mention. First, all life insurance contracts contain a contestability period, which allows the insurer to contest claims made for a period typically two years after the contract is issued. Chances are this is no longer an issue with your current coverage. Second, it s unlikely that you can obtain the same amount of coverage, for the same premium, that you were able to obtain with your existing contract. The two factors that determine how much you ll need to pay for life insurance coverage are age and health. Certainly, you re older now than you were when you took out your current coverage. There s no way around that. And you have to ask yourself, has your health changed during that time? Is your blood pressure the same? Your cholesterol? Have you gained weight? All these factors can affect the amount of coverage you ll get for your premium dollar. If someone encourages you to replace or worse, drop your existing coverage, please call me. I ll show you how your existing coverage is working for you and why replacement is rarely in your best interest. 6
