1 President The Heritage Heartbeat Painting News for Members of Palomar Heritage Painters Vol 35, Issue 10 October 2018 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE The Season is Upon Us: A grateful thank you to Carol Ganzi for her class featuring beautiful fuchsias painted with vivid colors and strokes. What fun. A colorful way to send off summer. October s class is just around the corner and as you know, this will be a fundraising class for our chapter. Bobbie T. has a beautiful Christmas design that can be placed on any surface, so if you haven t signed up yet, do so ASAP to come and enjoy a fund day. For lunch that day, your board has chosen to provide a tea party lunch, complete with finger sandwiches, little desserts and side dishes. We will have a variety of teas to choose from, and coffee too. If you would like to bring your own special tea cup to complete the theme, please do so. We will have a few but not enough for everyone attending. If you really feel up to the whole experience, bring a hat! Speaking of food, our own hard working Marilyn Dixon has asked me to find a few good workers to take over hospitality for her. Marilyn works so hard for our chapter and she deserves to kick back, so if anyone is interested or you have a group of friends that can be a committee for this let me know. Remember It takes a village to make a community and a family. As we approach the end of our year, I once again ask for volunteers for a few committees. We will need Mystery Paint In for 2020, Christmas party 2019, and Ways and means for These events are the highlight of our chapter and my hope there is someone out there waiting to take the plunge and help out. Let me know if you are interested. Don t forget to sign up for Jack s class in November, and the Christmas party too. Let s have a memorable end of Linda The object isn t to make art, it s to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable. - Robert Henri Linda Silvasy October 13, 2018 Snowman & Friends Bobbie Takashima Chapter Fundraiser Event December 1, 2018 Holiday Party In this Issue November 10, 2018 European Street Jack Ragland Upcoming Classes & Events... 2 Programs Report Christmas Party... 4 September Paint-In Photos... 5 Sunshine & Birthdays... 7 Membership Report... 8 Community Outreach... 8 PHP Board Meeting Minutes... 9 PHP Calendar Approved Budget Conventions Ways & Means Winners...11 Map to Paint-In...11 Class Signup Sheet...12 List of Officers PHP Membership Form...13 Page 1 The Heritage Heartbeat October 2018

7 Sunshine This month we will be celebrating birthdays of two ladies who have been members of chapter for a long, long, long time Merle Avery and Sandy Garcia. Merle has held several offices including VP Membership, Secretary and Sunshine. She earned her CDA from the Society of Decorative Painters at the Indianapolis convention. Merle taught classes at the Painting Goose and Calico Station and has taught classes at PHP and San Diego Brush Whackers monthly chapters and their Autumn Getaway. Merle s birthday is October 10 and she shares it with Brett Farve (former football player); Mario Lopez (TV personality) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (racecar driver). Sandy took classes at the Painting Goose from Shara Reiner and it was at her urging that Sandy started teaching. She taught beginning students at both the Painting Goose (over 10 years) and Calico Station (over 10 years) before moving on to Totally Tole. Sadly, all of those shops are no longer in business. Sandy has taught classes at PHP for a number of years. She has been to most of the national conventions, her first being at Portland in Sandy turns 80 this year and as she said I earned every year and am proud to still be here. And describes herself as a true Libra. Sandy s birthday is October 13 and she shares it with Margaret Thatcher (only woman Prime Minister of UK); Nancy Kerrigan (Olympic figure skater); Paul Simon (singer, songwriter); Tiffany Trump (daughter of Donald Trump); Kelly Preston (actress and wife of John Travolta); and Jerry Rice (former football player). The two signs associated with the month of October are Libra and Scorpio. People born from October 1st to October 22nd are members of the Libra sign... The sign of Libra is the sign of justice, balance and harmony. That is why Libra's are natural peacekeepers. As a Libra desires security and harmony above all else, those born under the sign can be identified by the organization applied to all aspects of their lives. Other PHP Libras celebrating a birthday are Candy Sciarretta, Susan Schoeppner and Carol Voyles, all with birthdays on October 9. They share a birthday with Beatle John Lennon and his son Sean Lennon and Sharon Osbourne (TV personality). Those born from October 23rd to October 31st are members of the Scorpio sign. The Scorpio is resilient and opinionated, which explains why they are amongst the most driven of the zodiac signs. Another teacher celebrating her birthday this month is Donna Carpenter. For many years Donna has had a shop in El Cajon, Art Creations Plus, the only tole and decorative painting shop left in San Diego County. Donna has taught at national conventions and at chapters, as well as teaching in her shop. Donna s birthday is Oct. 27 and she shares it with Theodore Roosevelt (26 th President); Marla Maples (ex spouse of Donald Trump and mother of Tiffany Trump) and John Cleese (actor and comedian). Birthdays Susan Schoeppner... 9 Candy Sciarretta... 9 Carol Voyles... 9 Merle Avery Sandy Garcia Charlotte Hicks Bobbie Takashima Donna Carpenter Cecelia Denton And the last of the teachers celebrating her birthday this month is Bobbie Takashima. Bobbie has taught her original designs at conventions, miniconventions and chapters all around the world. Bobbie is known for her whimsical designs and if you look carefully, you might find a frog or two in the design. Bobbie s birthday is Oct. 26 and she shares it with Hillary Clinton, Pat Sajak and Keith Urban (country singer and husband of Nicole Kidman). Other Scorpio s celebrating their birthday are Charlotte Hicks, who shares her birthday with Ryan Reynolds (actor) and Weird Al Yankovic); and Cecilia Denton, who shares a birthday with Dan Rather, Peter Jackson (movie director) and Christopher Columbus. Wishes for a speedy recovery to Merle Avery, who has recently been spending more time with doctors than she would like! We miss you, Merle! Jeanne Robert Page 7 The Heritage Heartbeat October 2018

9 Secretary Palomar Heritage Painters Board Meeting Minutes September 8, 2018 A board meeting of the Palomar Heritage Painters was held on Saturday, September 8, 2018, in the meeting room at the San Marcos Mobile Home Estates. The meeting was called to order at 7:50 a.m. by President Linda Silvasy. ATTENDANCE: President Linda Silvasy, 2nd Vice-President Membership & Website/Newsletter Editor Leslie Pilcher, Treasurer Marilyn Dixon, 1st Vice Presidents, Programs, Carol Voyles & Debi Stivers, Ways & Means Sandy Garcia, and Secretary Linda Camp. SEMINARS: Marilyn Dixon brought up that our Chapter will most likely not have the time needed, to adequately prepare for a seminar in January. A date possibly later in 2019, or even 2020, may have to be considered for our next seminar. It was also discussed that it would be beneficial to know what pieces are being considered, as many PHP members had already done many of the projects being presented by Erika Joanne, and there didn't appear to be any seminar pieces available. It was agreed that the idea of a January seminar would be tabled for now. In the meantime, Bobbie Takashima had information that Heidi England could also be available for 2020, or even later in 2019, and will follow-up more upon her return, about the different options. OCTOBER PAINT-IN: The board will be providing lunch for the attendees, in the form of a "tea". The various board members were assigned to bring different food items, and if possible, the painters attending should bring a tea cup, and perhaps a hat or "fascinator" headpiece to wear to the tea. CHRISTMAS PARTY: Previously, a donation of $300 was given to the San Marcos Mobile Home Community, to assist with Thanksgiving food. It was agreed that this amount would be increased to $350 this year. MEMBERSHIP: Leslie Pilcher requested that when members are renewing their Palomar Heritage Painters memberships, they must provide all information and documentation that is requested on the application. This is especially needed, in the event there were any changes for that person. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m. by Linda Silvasy. Respectfully Submitted, Linda Camp, Treasurer Linda Camp PHP Project Calendar October 13, 2018 Chapter Fundraiser Bobbie Takashima November 10, 2018 European Street Scene Jack Ragland December 1, 2018 Christmas Party January 12, 2019 Party Line Terry Holte February 9, 2019 Cup of Blessings Ramona Jacobs March 9, 2019 Mystery Paint-In Page 9 The Heritage Heartbeat October 2018
