This is the heading for the banner that hangs in our sanctuary. This, and what the banner says, has become the motto, slogan - the mantra for the United Church of Christ. It is the banner that hangs inside and out of many UCC congregations across the country. It expresses what we believe church is. So, I thought, what better theme could there be for our stewardship campaign? And because I do a lot of talking to myself, I answered my own question, nothing could be better! You see, to be the church is, to be good stewards. It is what God has entrusted us to do and be - - stewards. Over the next 4 weeks we will be looking at the challenges this banner confronts us with, which is the same as what God challenges/calls us to do as church. There is a song that came out sometime in the 60 s. It was popular at camp and with youth groups. It still can remind us about what I would call, real church or maybe I can steal Molly Baskette s book title, Real Good Church! Here are a couple of verses I remember from the song: There s a church within us O Lord, There s a church within us, O Lord. Not a building but a soul, not a portion but a whole, There s a church within us, O Lord. There s some building to be done, O Lord, There s some building to be done, O Lord. Not with steel, not with stone, But with lives which are our own There s the church to be built, O Lord. November 19 th (Thanksgiving Sunday), we invite you to bring your pledge cards to worship, where we will consecrate, dedicate and bless them for our work, as stewards. 2 2 Notes from October Council Submitted by Marilyn Michelon, Clerk 1. $500 has been sent to the National UCC for the International Disaster Relief Fund. 2. Proceeds from the Bobby Jo Valentine concert on October 27 th will be deposited in the Redwood Credit Union Fire Relief Fund. 3. Louise Graddy has volunteered to chair the 2018 Time & Talent fundraiser for our church. The tentative date was set for April 21, She will announce more details in December. 4. Facilities and Maintenance is still working on estimates for lighting for the sanctuary. They will check with PG&E about possible rebates for the lighting installation. 5. Changes will be made to the landscaping in front of the church as per discussions at the Real Good Church book study. Seasonal pruning and plantings will be evident as appropriate. 6. To volunteer to help with the High School Breakfast, contact Jilloni at the office. To help with Heaven s Closet Thrift Shop, contact Carol Huot. To help with the Food Pantry, contact Jerry Huot. An hour or two each month will make a BIG difference. High School Breakfast Program Food & Supplies: Jan-June: $ and September Start-up: $ Donations needed for the High School Breakfast Program: There have been no contributions to the High School Breakfast Program this year, so the fund balance will meet expenses through December Donations are needed and gratefully appreciated to enable the program to continue in January 2018.

Once again, the United Church of Cloverdale is working with One World Fair Trade in Healdsburg to bring Fair Trade to Cloverdale. In the past, One World Fair Trade has donated 20% of the proceeds from the sale to UCC, which has turned those funds over to Wallace House, for the benefit of those in our community who need housing assistance. This year, Wallace House has asked that such proceeds be re-directed to those who have become homeless as a result of the recent fires. The sale will be at One World Fair Trade (104 Matheson Street, Healdsburg Square). You will have the opportunity to browse through all the products available at One World Fair Trade - beautiful handmade crafts, home décor, clothing & accessories, jewelry, musical instruments, Christmas decorations, toys, books, games and much, much more.
