2 Hello Flushing UMC! Very soon Ron and I will be with you, our new church family. As I write I am surrounded by boxes and tape. The sound of the tape gun causes me to cringe it is all a part of the change. I am looking forward to meeting y all (my KY word)! Ron and I just celebrated our first wedding anniversary on June 1 st and now we will celebrate being with you. My first Sunday will be July 6 th I know many of you will be away for the holiday, but we have time to get acquainted. To help me with direction and care, I am asking that you fill out a form that will be made available to you and drop it into a box that the office will prepare. You do not have to belabor the moment, simply write what comes to your heart. If you signed it that would me. In planning the direction of sermons and teaching, this will help a lot. I will also be working with the SPRC to organize home get togethers where we can meet with you in small groups this summer just to get to know each other. I am grateful to Jeff and Keri for all the preparation they did for us to come. Ten years is a long time to have a pastor and I know that your hearts are sad in this transition. I know they loved you well and led you to draw closer to the Lord. Transition is difficult but also brimming with possibilities. A scripture verse that is meaningful to many is given to a group of people in transition the Israelites were scattered and lost their ways of worship. God knew they needed a word of hope for their future. This scripture has given me strength through so many times of change. So let s together hold it close to our hearts. For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me NLT (Jeremiah 29:11-13). We are encouraged to pray, seek the Lord and trust for the future. God has a plan, we may not see it yet, but as we walk together in faith, he will direct our ways. Ron and I will be unpacking on Clearview Drive, settling in and on July 1 st I will begin the new adventure with you! Until then we will pray and trust for God is mighty God! God bless you!

3 A Note to Pastor Debbie In order to help me get to know you, please fill this out and place it in the designated box. Thanks! Three words that describe Flushing UMC Three things I am praying will happen here Jesus Christ is this to my life: A special moment in worship that impacted me was:

Family Promise servant opportunity forms, including details about the tasks, are available in the literature rack inside the front door of the church or from Carolyn or Kay. An updated Wish List includes the following: 1 sturdy lamp, (either a table or floor lamp); 1 small lamp for reading; 2 table fans; 1 alarm clock; parenting and women s magazines; x-box games for ages 6-15*; toys, games and larger balls for outside play*; riding toys, including bikes*; PG or PG13 movies on DVD for all ages* and action games for school age boys* and 6-8 folding lawn/deck chairs *. A list of food needed for the week, including perishable and non-perishable items, is located in Fellowship Hall on clipboards. Recently our congregation generously donated to a fund to help Taylor, a 12 year old guest, earn money to attend camp last week. With just a few days notice our congregation donated cans and bottles for her to redeem along with enough cash that gave her the money she needed to earn matching funds from another church. She was also able to get her uniform. The extra donations will be set aside for other such needs in the future. Thank you for your continued support of the Family Promise ministry at FUMC. We ask for your continued prayers for the servants and families who are part of the Family Promise program.

Parking Lot Woes Did you get your high heel shoe caught in a crack in the asphalt of our church parking lot? Or did you slip on the ice there last winter due to the water buildup from the poor drainage of our worn parking lot? Well, relief may be in sight in the future as the Trustees are discussing the possibilities of resurfacing, repaving and possibly expanding our church parking lot. More news on this project will be passed along as it becomes available in the future. Your Trustees Thank You We want to thank everyone especially Jeff and Jeanne, who came to visit Dean and for the many phone calls, cards and flowers. We are blessed with a wonderful church family and have witnessed the power of prayer. Dean continues to improve at home. Maxine Schmaler Thank you to our church family for many cards, calls, visits, lots of best wishes and encouragement. Thank you for the beautiful prayer shawl, to Jeff and Jeanne for their visits. Your prayers and cards are a great support. Jack & Eunice Speckmann I would like to thank everyone who participated in the farewell festivities for the Jaggers family. Thank you to all of those who came to sing during worship. It was great to have so many participate. Also, a big thank you to all who took part in the evening program. Whether it was through speaking, singing, poetry, or something else, it was a wonderful evening. With some tears and lots of laughter, it was a fitting tribute to send them on their way in this new part of their journey. Christie Dover
